We rented a car from ExpediCAR in Romania, and when we returned it, they hit us with a shocking 600-euro charge for two tiny marks in the trunk. These weren't even scratches—just faint scuffs from loading and unloading suitcases, the kind that happen with any rental car. We had purchased their most expensive insurance plan, yet they claimed "the interior of the car is not covered." This is a bait-and-switch tactic: sell you expensive insurance, then invent loopholes to deny coverage when you need it.

Let's be clear: two minor scuffs are not worth 600 euros by any reasonable standard. This is not an insurance claim—it's a shakedown.

This whole ordeal took place in the airport parking lot, right before our flight out of Romania—the very last moments of our trip. Because of ExpediCAR, our final memory of Romania was turned into an ugly, stressful dispute instead of a warm send-off. Honestly, this experience nearly made me dislike Romania as a whole, even though the country itself had nothing to do with it. If this is happening to other travelers too, ExpediCAR is actively damaging Romania's reputation among foreign visitors. A scam company like this doesn't just hurt individual customers—it hurts Romania's national interest as a tourist destination.

I also want to add a word of caution: when I searched TripAdvisor for "ExpediCAR," no results came up at all—only reviews under the name "AbbyCar" appeared, with a shockingly low rating of just 1.3 out of 5 stars. I strongly encourage you to search "AbbyCar" on TripAdvisor and read those reviews yourself—you'll be stunned to find that the complaints described there are identical to what countless 1-star reviews on Trustpilot say about ExpediCAR. Everyone is describing the same thing: being charged exorbitant amounts when returning their rental car. In fact, multiple review sites (TripAdvisor, Trustpilot) contain numerous reports of customers who booked with "AbbyCar" only to be met at the airport by ExpediCAR instead. This strongly suggests these companies are connected in some way, and that ExpediCAR may be operating under multiple names to avoid accumulating bad reviews under one identity.

Be also wary of the 5-star reviews on this page. Many appear to be posted by people affiliated with the company, not genuine customers.

Honestly, one star is too generous for this company. Zero stars—no, negative stars—would be more accurate.

If you value your money and your peace of mind—and if you want to leave Romania with good memories instead of bad ones—book with a different rental company.

While it was difficult to communicate where to be picked up from the departure terminal, once picked up, the process to get the car was simple taking 5 mins, mind you I had pre-booked and pre-paid which made it a lot simpler.
On dropping the car off, which was just done (typing this at the airport), I was greeted by Sun and he took roughly 3minutes to check the car realising nothing was wrong, and paperwork signed quickly and dropped off at the airport. This was crazy quick, especially since I took out the premium insurance so knew I didnt have to worry about anything.

The worst car company ever I had a reservation got to the location to pick up the car they refuse to give it to me although I had a credit card and debit card as well they claim he didn’t write credit on the card they didn’t want to help the guy was so rude he told me to calm down I was very calm a bunch of idiots working there zero star scammers

J'ai loué une voiture chez Expedicar à l'aeroport de Bucharest via Discovercars. J'ai souscrit l'assurance totale avec Discovercars et n'avait donc à verser normalement qu'un dépot de garantie. Dès mon arrivée chez Expedicar, un certain Marius à tout fait pour que je souscrive à son assurance en direct bien que je lui ai dit que j'en avais déjà pris une avec Discovercars. Il m'a donc expliqué que cette assurance était nulle, qu'elle ne couvrait rien comparé à la sienne. Comme j'ai continué à refuser, au bout de 30mn et à bout d'arguments, il m'a expliqué qu'il ne pouvait pas me louer la voiture car DiscoverCars demandait un dépot de garantie, mais que ma carte bleue n'était pas valable car elle ne comportait pas les 3 prénoms qui figuraient sur mon passeport, et donc que Discoverscars refuserait le dépot de garantie ! Depuis quand les cartes bleues doivent mentionner tous les prénoms de notre état civil??? j'ai voulu contacter le service français de DiscoverCars, qui était injoignable, pendant que lui contactait le service roumain qui a répondu aussitôt. La dame au téléphone a confirmé ses dires, que ma carte bleue n'était pas valable, et à la demande du dénommé Marius, elle a annulé l'assurance que j'avais souscrite et m'a refait un virement instantané de la somme, avant de raccrocher sans que je n'ai eu mon mot à dire ! je me suis demandé si elle ne retouchait pas une partie de l'assurance d'Expédicar tellement j'ai trouvé ça louche. Du coup fatiguée et énervée, j'ai fini par céder pour avoir la voiture et j'ai du payer 350 € d'assurance pour 7 jours, malgré également que ma carte bleue est une premium qui couvre aussi les locations de voiture, mais Marius n'a rien voulu savoir. Bizarrement pour payer les 350 €, le fait que mes 3 prénoms n'apparaissaient pas sur ma carte bleue ne posait plus aucun problème. C'est de l'arnaque totale! Jamais je ne repasserai par le site Discovercars pour louer un véhicule et je vous déconseille très fortement Expedicar à Bucarest, ce sont des voleurs !

I rented a car from Expedicar at Bucharest Airport via Discovercars. I had purchased full insurance coverage through Discovercars, so I should have only needed to pay a security deposit. As soon as I arrived at the Expedicar counter, a man named Marius tried his hardest to get me to buy their own insurance, even though I told him I had already purchased a policy through Discovercars. He claimed the Discovercars policy was worthless and offered no real coverage compared to his. When I continued to refuse, and after 30 minutes of arguing, he claimed he couldn't rent me the car because Discovercars required a security deposit but my credit card wasn't valid—allegedly because it didn't list all three of the first names shown on my passport, meaning Discovercars would reject the deposit! Since when do credit cards have to list every single one of our legal first names? I tried to contact Discovercars' French customer service but couldn't get through, whereas he contacted the Romanian office, which answered immediately. The woman on the phone backed up his claim that my card was invalid; at Marius's request, she cancelled the insurance I had purchased and instantly refunded the money, then hung up before I could even get a word in. It seemed so fishy that I wondered if she was getting a kickback from Expedicar's insurance sales. Exhausted and frustrated, I eventually gave in just to get the car; I ended up paying €350 for insurance for seven days—even though I have a premium credit card that includes car rental coverage—but Marius wouldn't hear of it. Strangely enough, when it came to paying the €350, the fact that my three first names didn't appear on my credit card was no longer an issue at all. It’s a total scam! I will never use the Discovercars site to rent a vehicle again, and I strongly advise against using Expedicar in Bucharest—they are crooks!

If I could give ExpediCar 0 stars, I would. This is by far the most dishonest car rental operation I have ever encountered.
When I picked up my rental at 3:30 AM with my family and four tired children, their agent (Daniel) refused to accept my physical credit card, claiming it was a "debit card" (which is completely false; I have used this exact card for over 20 years for car rentals worldwide). They used this absurd excuse to bully and force us into paying an extra €700 for unnecessary S-CDW+ insurance just so we could take the car.
To make matters worse, after we disputed this charge, they completely changed their story and lied to the booking platform, claiming I presented a "virtual card"—another total fabrication, as physical cards were provided at the counter. I have recorded phone calls from the exact time of pick-up proving that the agent only claimed the card was a debit card and never mentioned a virtual card.
Looking at other customer reviews online, it is painfully clear that this is their standard operational scheme to extort money from unsuspecting travelers at late hours when they have no other choice.
Stay far away from ExpediCar (Autorevolution SRL)! They lie, scam their customers, and operate under completely false pretenses. Save yourself the stress and financial extortion—book with a reputable company instead.

Avoid ExpediCars. They commited fraud. When we refused to buy additional insurance with them they increased the rental price by 50 euro per day. When we refused they used a lack of my second Christian name on a credit card as a pretext to refuse such guarantee. They hoped we have no other option because at this airport there were no other car rentals. Eventually we took Uber to go to other airport and paid more for car rental.

I would not rent from this company again, despite the employees at the desk being very nice and professional.

The major problem is a policy you do not see when you book online. The full rental contract is only presented when you arrive to pick up the car. After a long international flight, with a prepaid reservation , including comprehensive insurance, and expecting to drive away, I discovered that I essentially had two choices: pay approximately €600 for ExpediCar's own insurance for a two-week rental, or accept a €1,850 security deposit actually charged to my credit card — not simply pre-authorized or blocked.

Their contract then allows them 90 calendar days to return that money, and they take the full term.

I chose the deposit. The company kept my €1,850 for three months. When it was finally refunded, the exchange rate had changed and I received approximately CAD 300 less than the amount originally charged to me. Their contract puts that exchange-rate risk on the customer.

A warning particularly for international visitors renting cars in Romania: protect yourself. Do not assume that “security deposit” means a temporary authorization on your credit card. Expedicar has conditions very different from those you are accustomed to when dealing with established and reputable car rental brands.

Practices like this continue when customers discover them only after they have committed to the rental. The best protection is to know about them before choosing the company.

I have rented cars internationally many times and have never experienced a deposit arrangement like this.

I will certainly avoid ExpediCar in the future, and I will make sure that I will warn the Romanian community in Canada , and all potential visitors to Bucharest, about their tricks.

Due to a flight delay—a situation communicated in advance and confirmed in writing by ExpediCAR with assurances that there would be "no problem"—I arrived at the rental desk to collect the car. Upon arrival, the ExpediCAR representative explicitly informed me that my reservation had been automatically cancelled, that the money already paid was lost, and that the only way to obtain a vehicle to continue my trip was to sign a new contract and pay an additional €479.99. Under extreme pressure (late at night in a foreign country, with accommodation already booked across Romania, and no alternative transport), I paid the requested amount.

2. Uncovering the MisinformationWhen I contacted DiscoverCars support to submit a complaint, their own investigation completely disproved the counter representative's claim: the reservation was never cancelled. The car had been processed using my original DiscoverCars voucher, proving that the prepaid amount of €231.52 was active and correctly applied to the rental. However, the extra €479.99 was billed locally under the label of SCDW+ (zero-deposit full cover), a product that is supposedly "optional". This proved beyond doubt that the desk agent deliberately lied about the cancellation to force me into buying an unnecessary insurance policy worth almost €480.

3. A Succession of Changing and Unfound ContradictionsOver more than a month of email correspondence, rather than addressing the abusive conduct of their local partner, DiscoverCars and ExpediCAR presented a constantly shifting sequence of retrospective justifications to legitimize the €479.99 charge:
- 1st Version (At the Desk): The booking was "cancelled" due to late arrival, and paying €479.99 was the only way to get a car.
- 2nd Version (Initial DiscoverCars Support): The fee was an optional SCDW+ product that I "voluntarily" accepted by signing the local contract.
- 3rd Version: They claimed the Revolut card I used was unacceptable for holding a security deposit, leaving no choice but to add full coverage. (False: the Revolut debit card was only used to pay the €479.99 in local currency (RON) AFTER I was told the extra fee was mandatory; I had initially presented a physical credit card in my own name).
- 4th Version (Latest attempt by ExpediCAR/DiscoverCars): They claimed my physical credit card failed the requirement of "validity for at least 6 months post drop-off" (drop-off on July 20, 2026; card expiry January 2027). (Factually incorrect: a card expiring in January 2027 remains valid until the end of that month, strictly fulfilling the 6-month requirement).

4. Lack of Corporate Ethics and Silence from ExpediCARDespite submitting a detailed formal complaint directly to ExpediCAR with all supporting evidence, the Romanian supplier failed to provide any direct response. Meanwhile, DiscoverCars repeatedly attempted to distance itself by hiding behind the existence of a "signed local agreement," refusing to hold its supplier accountable for misleading and aggressive sales tactics conducted through its platform. A signature on a contract does not constitute genuine voluntary consent when it is obtained through false representations (coercion and induced mistake by the agent).

Conclusion / Warning to ConsumersThis case highlights a severe lack of transparency, ethics, and customer care: ExpediCAR (Bucharest): Employs aggressive commercial practices, coercing travelers at the counter with false claims of cancellation to force expensive insurance add-ons.

Avoid ExpediCAR at all costs. As a frequent car renter, I have never experienced such outrageous behavior.

We booked a car with full insurance coverage in advance. However, when we arrived in the middle of the night to pick up the vehicle, ExpediCAR refused to hand over the keys unless we paid an additional €300 for extra insurance.

When we refused this extortion and contacted our booking platform, ExpediCAR simply ignored all follow-ups and completely cut off communication. After checking other reviews, I realized this isn't an isolated incident—it seems to be their systematic method for scamming customers.

We were left stranded in the middle of the night and had to rent from a reputable, internationally recognized brand instead. It was more expensive, but it proved the old saying: cheap ends up being expensive.
