I got scammed.
1. At the spot I was charged too much from credit card: CHARGED, not just amount blocked.
2.The tank wasn't full (I spotted that too late)
3. I was charged for spots smaller then 1mm over 800 euro!
4. When I got the deposit - it was 120 Euro short!

AVOID AT ALL COST!

Mi unisco al resto delle persone. Ritirato l' auto all'aeroporto Baneasa. Qua hanno insistito a comprare la loro assicurazione altrimenti pulizia auto e danni sarebbero stati a carico mio. Guarda a caso alla consegna hanno chiesto entrambe. Sull'auto c'era solo polvere ma hanno chiesto 80 euro con la scusa che non si vedevano i graffi. Arrivato in anticipo sono andato a lavarla (ho sbagliato a non fare una foto dell'auto e sporgere una denuncia sulla piattaforma di prenotazione auto). Hanno trovato due graffi sull'auto dopo averla scruttata come mai visto in vita mia ( al ritiro due foto e via) e guarda a caso come da copione per gli altri che hanno recensito mi hanno chiesto 800 euro di danni. Mai capitata una cosa simile, fortuna che ho l'assicurazione ma da ora in poi non voglio manco sentire parlare di loro anche perché la prenotazione è costata più della media. Disgusto assoluto per il disagio causato in vacanza!!!

Finger weg von dieser Gesellschaft. Hatte über Rental Cars ein Auto bestellt und im voraus bezahlt. Bei Ankunft sollte ich dann noch 90 Euro für eine Mietdauer von 9 Tagen bezahlen, weil ich über 65 Jahre alt bin. Angeblich hätte ich mein Alter aber nicht angegeben und man könne mir das Auto daher nicht mehr so geben. Der Voucher wurde nicht einmal angeschaut. Man könne mir aber ein Auto für 67 Euro/Tag anbieten. Nach über 20 Minuten Warteschleife in der Hotline von Rental Cars habe Ich dann die ganze ursprüngliche Buchung storniert. Ich stand jetzt circa 3 km vom Flugplatz Cluj entfernt mit leeren Händen da. Meine rumänische Bekannte hat mich dort dann abgeholt. Ich werde in Zukunft mehr Zeit auf bestehende Rezessionen verwenden. Im Nachhinein hätte ich mir dann nämlich diesen ganzen Ärger erspart.

Ved afhentning af bilen den 18. juli 2026 fik jeg oplyst, at bilen kun kunne udleveres, hvis udlejeren måtte reservere 9.239,29 kr. på mit betalingskort. Jeg oplyste, at jeg allerede havde købt udvidet forsikring gennem Booking, men dette blev afvist.

Jeg forsøgte at kontakte Booking, men efter over 30 minutters ventetid måtte jeg opgive. Da jeg ønskede at annullere lejen og få mine penge retur, fik jeg besked om, at dette ikke var muligt, og at jeg ville miste det allerede betalte beløb.

Jeg følte mig derfor presset til at acceptere reservationen. Mit Mastercard blev afvist, hvorefter udlejeren krævede et andet kort, som beløbet blev reserveret på, før bilen blev udleveret.

Under lejeperioden tændte advarselslampen for partikelfilteret. Ved aflevering påstod udlejeren, at det skyldtes , at jeg havde tanket forkert brændstof. Det er ikke korrekt – bilen blev udelukkende tanket med det korrekte brændstof.

Den 21. juli 2026 kunne jeg se, at beløbet var blevet trukket og ikke blot reserveret. Udlejeren oplyste efterfølgende, at jeg havde købt en ekstra forsikring. Dette har jeg aldrig accepteret, da jeg allerede var forsikret gennem Booking.

Jeg vil på det kraftigste fraråde andre at booke igennem dette firma.

landed in Cluj, Romania, after booking a rental car through Booking.com. We called DirectCar, and after waiting about 45 minutes, a car arrived to take us to a location approximately 3 km away.
When it was time to collect the rental car, we were asked to present a credit card.
We showed our Allkort card, but it was not accepted because the word "CREDIT" was not printed on the card, even though it is a credit card according to Handelsbanken:
The representative then offered to accept the card if we paid an additional fee of approximately €40 per day. I said that I did not want to pay the extra charge. He then threatened to hit me if I did not "shut up" and literally flexed his muscles at me. He was about 30 years old, while I am 72.

We called Booking.com and cancelled the rental, which cost us about SEK 300 in cancellation fees. We then asked to be driven back to the airport, but this was refused, leaving us stranded in the middle of a field with all of our luggage. We had to order a taxi for about €20 to return to the airport.

We are extremely disappointed that Booking.com works with such a company, and we sincerely hope that no other travelers have to go through the same experience.

Vi landar i Cluj , Rumänien efter att vi har har bokat en bil via Booking. Ringer till DirectCar och efter ca. 45 väntan kommer en bil som tar oss till ett ställe ca. 3 km bort. För att få bilen fich visa upp ett kreditkort. Vi visar upp ett ALLKORT som inte accepteras därför att KREDIT inte stod på kortet
Försäljaren erbjuder att ta emot kortet om vi betalar extra ca. 40€/dag.
Jag sa att jag inte vill betala och han hotade att han slår mig om jag inte håller käften och bokstavligen visar musklerna (han var ca 30 år gammal och jag är 72).
Vi ringde till Booking och avbokade bilen som kostade oss ca.300 kr.
Vi begärde att bli körda tillbaka till flygplatsen som inte accepterades så att vi står mitt på ett fält med all bagage. Beställde taxi för ca 20 € och åkte tillbaka till flygplatsen.
Vi är väldigt besvikna på att Booking anlitar ett sådant företag och hoppas att inte några andra resenärer råkar ut för samma scenario.

SCAMMERS! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. MY FLIGHT WAS DELAYED AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WILL KEEP MY CAR AT NO EXTRA COST AND WHEN I ARRIVED AT THEIR LOCATION THEY ASKED FOR AN EXTRA EUR 500 AS I WAS LATE. DO NOT GET ANYTHING FROM THEM AS THEY ARE SCAMMERS!!!!

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience with Direct Rent.

I made my reservation through Booking.com and paid for the rental in advance. One day before my arrival, I called the rental company using the phone number provided in my booking and informed them that, due to my flight schedule, I would arrive between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. I have proof of this call. My flight was later delayed by approximately one additional hour.

When I arrived at the airport, I called the company again. The person on the phone was very friendly and told me that someone would come to pick us up. He also mentioned that there were some changes regarding my reservation, but said that his colleague would explain everything when we met.

At first, he was polite and explained that my reservation had been invalidated because they were not sure whether I would arrive. I informed him that I had called the company the day before and had clearly communicated my expected arrival time.

The situation became even more confusing when I was told that my reservation had originally been scheduled for 10:00 AM. However, my Booking.com reservation showed a pickup time of 12:00 PM. The explanations I received did not match the information shown in my booking.

Most importantly, I never received any email, text message, or notification informing me that my reservation had been cancelled or invalidated.

I tried to find a reasonable solution and explained that I would be willing to accept a smaller vehicle if my reserved car was no longer available. This was refused. Instead, I was presented with new rental offers at prices several times higher than my original reservation.

At the beginning of the conversation, the staff were friendly and cooperative. However, once it became clear that I was not willing to accept the significantly more expensive alternative offers, the tone of the discussion changed noticeably and became increasingly unpleasant.

Despite having a valid reservation, paying in advance, and informing the company about my arrival time, I was ultimately left without a vehicle.

Even more surprisingly, the day after the incident my reservation was still displayed as “Confirmed” in the Booking.com system.

The positive part of this experience was Booking.com’s customer service. After reviewing the evidence I provided, they handled the situation professionally and refunded almost the entire amount I had paid. I appreciate their assistance and fair handling of the case.

After this experience, I looked at reviews on other platforms and found a number of customers describing situations that raised concerns similar to mine. I cannot verify those reviews myself, but reading them reinforced my decision to share my own experience publicly.

Unfortunately, my experience with Direct Rent was extremely disappointing. I rent cars regularly in different countries and have dealt with many rental companies over the years, but I have never experienced a situation like this before.

This review reflects my personal experience, which I can support with booking records, call logs, screenshots, photographs, and written correspondence.

If you are considering renting from this company, I would strongly recommend reading reviews from multiple independent sources before making a decision.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Direct Rent.

Complete scammers. Made a booking online. Flight was delayed, outside my control. When I arrived at the airport and contacted them, been told is too late and closed the office and is nothing he can do. Therefore he left me and my child, in the middle of the night, stranded in the airport. He also refuses to refund!
Stay away if you want to have no troubles!

Delinquenti con licenza... Hanno rifiutato la mia carta multifunzione (debit e credit) motivando che ha la dicitura debit sopra, però, se avessi fatto una assicurazione (molto costosa) con loro, magicamente, la mia carta sarebbe stata accettata. Da evitare come la peste...

If you don't take their extra insurance fees, they'll find anyway to make you pay more than your original booking price.
I gave the car back during the night, and they found a tiny scratch near the backseat window, that you could not see with your eyes. You could only feel it with your finger.
I suppose that light scratch was already there when i took the car or they quicly made it when they checked the car.
I had to pay 400€ for that invisible scratch.

STAY AWAY from Direct Rent A Car Bacău! EXTREME BLACKMAIL, STALKING, AND PREDATORY PRACTICES
I had a traumatic experience with Direct Rent A Car Bacău and its representative, Alex. On Jan 17th, during return, I was subjected to literal financial blackmail. The owner alleged a windshield crack and explicitly threatened that if I didn't pay €1,000 ON THE SPOT, he would withhold my entire €2,183 security deposit. Knowing I had a flight to catch in minutes, he used this pressure to force me to sign and pay under extreme duress.
​Even more disturbing, the owner admitted to stalking my movements via GPS "every single day" of the rental—a massive breach of privacy and GDPR. When I legally demanded the office CCTV footage of our encounter, he flatly refused.

​To make matters worse, the car I was given was a wreck: an extremely used vehicle with over 175,000 km on the odometer and significant pre-existing damage. Charging €1,000 for a "damage" on such a high-mileage, poorly maintained car is a clear scam. This is not a business; it’s a trap for travelers. Official complaints have been filed with ANPC, and Data Protection authorities.

​FUGIȚI DE Direct Rent A Car Bacău ! ȘANTAJ EXTREM, HĂRȚUIRE ȘI PRACTICI PREDATORII
Am avut o experiență traumatizantă cu Direct Rent A Car Bacău și reprezentantul acesteia, Alex. Pe 17 ianuarie, la returnare, am fost supus unui șantaj financiar în toată regula.

Administratorul mi-a imputat o daună la parbriz și m-a amenințat explicit că, dacă nu plătesc 1.000 EUR PE LOC, îmi va opri întreaga garanție de 2.183 EUR. Știind că am zbor în câteva minute, a folosit această presiune pentru a mă forța să semnez și să plătesc sub constrângere.
​Și mai grav, administratorul a recunoscut că mi-a urmărit deplasările prin GPS în fiecare zi a închirierii – o încălcare flagrantă a vieții private și a GDPR. Când am solicitat legal accesul la înregistrările CCTV din birou pentru dovezi, am fost refuzat categoric.

Notez si ca mașina primită a fost un vehicul extrem de uzat, cu peste 175.000 km la bord și numeroase daune pre-existente. Să ceri 1.000 EUR pentru o "daună" la o mașină cu un asemenea rulaj și într-o stare atât de proastă este o tentativă clară de escrocherie. Această firmă este o capcană pentru călători. Am depus plângeri oficiale la ANPC și Autoritatea pentru Protecția Datelor.

Alles! Eerst zeggen ze dat je 30.000 euro borg moet betalen. Die kan naar beneden voor 200 euro tot 400 euro totaal.

Bij terugkomst moet je zorgen dat je minimaal 2 boksbeugels bij je hebt want de security Inc pepperspray staat al klaar vanwege dezelfde truuk als hier overal omschreven staat. De binnenkant beschadigd door de koffer. Na 4 pogingen aan de buitenkant die we bewezen hadden met een video van 6 minuten (Ja wij zagen dit aankomen) was de binnenkant aan de beurt want ja wie filmt dan ook de binnenkant. Helemaal achterin zat namelijk een plekje waar zogenaamd de koffer tegenaan was gekomen. Hier wilde ze 160 euro voor hebben.

De Roemeense goden waren met hem, want hij kwam eindelijk tot gezond verstand toen ik hem net niet 8 tanden uit zijn smoel sloeg bedacht hij dat ik toch niet de juiste persoon was voor deze actie.

Wij kregen onze borg terug alleen onder hartslag 169 ga je hier niet vandaan.

Zorg dat je je niet laat naaien door deze vampier kraaien. Groetjes Jens van tv

If I could put zero stars I would!
Arrived to pick up my car and the guy said because I don't have credit card (only debit) he would charge me deposit of 100€ that I'd get back and then a flat fee of 160€ to be able to have the car even thought I booked it and paid through lastminute.com!!!
He was really aggressive and rude! He said it was in the terms and conditions but it isn't written anywhere that I'd have to pay a flat fee and he said I was too stupid to understand the T&C's!
They didn't drive me back to the airport I had to get an uber! And I rented a car throught a proper agency (Avis) and they were great!

I booked and paid for my car through Booking.com. When I arrived at the Direct Rent counter to pick it up, there was a transaction error with my card. Instead of trying the card again or offering any assistance, the staff refused to help, told me to call Booking.com myself, and then kicked me out of the office.
Their location is far from the airport and not easily accessible, so I had to walk back on my own. This was the most appalling experience I’ve ever had with a car rental company. I lost time, money, and energy — and received zero support or understanding.
I strongly advise others to avoid this company and rent from a more professional and customer-oriented provider.

This company is aggresive and unorganised and will take a lot of extra money/costs additional to your agreed rental contract. Do not hire a car here!

If it's the same Direct Rent as at Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport, this guy is just a scammer that tries to bully you. They claim the booking is marked as a no-show, and try and sell you another rental for hundreds more than the original booking. Very aggressive. Definitely avoid.
