The staff is lovely and clearly passionate about what they do, but their process is terrible and that comes to the expense of our time and wallet.

I ordered a bike and went for a model that I was told was easy and efficient to install a mudguard and a rack on afterwards. If I knew what was coming, I would have gone for another bike with mudguard and rack already installed.

I showed up in the store on the agreed collection day, thinking that I'd spend less an hour there. I spent 3 hours with an unfortunate series of events.

Turns out the bike was there but the order hadn't been placed correctly with Cycle2Work. A good half hour spent with back and forth between staff to finally sort that.

Then I was directed to a model of mudguard and a rack to be installed. Both Trek, while my bike is Specialized, but I was told it was ok. I specifically asked for the rack to be compatible with my existing Ortielb bags (I provided the model).

It took them ages to install the rack and the mudguard because it was a busy day and because the accessories were not fit for my bike. When I was finally given the bike, the mudguard on the front wheel was missing, they just had forgotten about it.

When I arrived home and tried to install my Ortlieb bags on the rack, but they were not fitting. I got in touch with the staff and was told to purchase inserts on the Ortlieb website. At this stage, I was so disheartened, I spent a fair amount of money on a very good bike and I was expecting a service at the level of my investment.

The staff was lovely at all time. All this seems to be the result of a lack of training and bad process.

I'm not a big fan of the "figure of 8" bar wrapping technique they use. They didn't include all the blanking plates etc but when I queried it they ordered me one and posted it out. Their aftersales support mechanic at Chiswick branch was excellent too for a SRAM warranty claim.

Earlier this week I went into Balfe's needing an urgent repair to one of my pedals. I hadn't been there before and had no appointment but couldn't have asked for better service - friendly, immediate and an expert job done on the spot. I'd certainly recommend them to others. Big thanks to Herbert who was extremely helpful and knowledgable without being pushy. We were able to look at the bikes at leisure without being pushed into a sale. Ended up buying the perfect bike for my son - all the staff were extremely helpful and polite would def shop there again.
