We rented a car in Bodo, Norway today for NOK 1800, plus I surance and road side plan. Not cheap. Part way through the day we got a flat tire (brand new tires) from road debris. Tow truck operate took us to a closed Toyota shop. Did not fix the tire. Young man at Bodo Airport Avis said Too bad, it's not his problem. We were stuck. Ended up getting a taxi. Could not finish sight seeing on our last day in Bodo. Not happy with the service. Broken contract. Will be expecting a refund and cost of the taxi. Do better, Avis!

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. Would have given NO Stars if I could
I booked our car for a 2 week holiday period in Arizona from 19.03.25 to 02.04.25. On arrival at Phoenix Airport, the queue was horrendous to pick up a pre booked car. They tried to get me to take out additional insurance that we already paid for through Booking.Com. It took 1. 5 hours to get the car after travelling for 20+ hours to get there. A lot of angry people in the line.
The 2 weeks went well without any issues, I returned the car, emptied it and left the keys at Phoenix Airport. The person checking it said all was well and good to go.
Roll on 3 weeks later and I received an email then a letter stating I owe them $250 for extreme damage requiring detailing and valetting of the car as a result of extreme dirt, food stains, cigarette burns, and pet hair that couldn't be dealt with normal vaccuming. What a crock.
I asked them if the expectation was to wash and vacuum the car before returning it or was I to remove foot wear and wipe my feet before getting into it???
There was no smoking, no pets and no food at all so I challenged it and am still disputing it today. I asked for photographic evidence to prove what they found 5 days after it was returned and asked did someone else cause the damage in the interim. They sent me 3 very grainy photos of something that resembled about 6 large white crumbs, on the floors, justifying their removal from the fleet and a $250 cleaning charge.. Absolute joke.
They refused to re consider and I'm fighting this to the end.
Spoke to the bank and they supported me to cancel my card before they could remove any money.
I have googled this and there are so many issues out there, this company are scammers and complete liars. Do not trust them and photograph or video every part of the hire car sending to yourself by email to prove the date stamp, before and after the hire dates. Challenge everything
Read every negative review you find out there and believe what they say worldwide. They are true.

*Made a reservation at Budget lot in North Hollywood - when I got there-there was NO car (no notice/no phone call about this) and they said they could not get the Budget/Avis at the Burbank Airport to send over a car -
An electric car pulls into the lot - I do not want it as they are problematic (they take 24 hrs for full charge) and I do not have charging capabilities - but Im desperate so I take the car as I was told I could exchange it at another lot. I start driving to Las Vegas and try to exchange the car at a Budget/Avis lot in Victorville but no cars - I drive across town to another lot where there are cars for rent and they WOULD NOT take the electric car and rent me another car because the electric car had a low charge- unbelieveable! he had cars in the lot that were not reserved - he said it would take him too long to charge the electric car and he might lose revenue - he refused to rent me a car - I am literally stranded - I tell him that but he does not care - I sit for 6 hours at a charging station getting a charge so that I can drive back to Burbank and exchange the car - i had to change plans/reservations/business meetings etc.... I lost 2 days of my trip - I exchange the car at the Burbank airport - ive filed a complaint and called and they will not reimburse me for 2 days of car rental - unbelieveable! and get this..... Im on the phone with the complaint department and the woman emails me one day rental coupon - I tell her emphatically that I do not want the coupon - take it back - I will not use it - she starts to argue with me telling me the issue is settled - OMG!
I rented a caTerrible experience with Avis Budget Italyr through Booking.com
I rented a car through Booking.com, and unfortunately, it was managed by Avis Budget. What should have been a reliable company turned out to be the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had.
They didn’t accept the insurance I had already paid for through Booking, so I was forced to buy their own insurance on top of that. I also had to pay an additional deposit, which, even after 3 days, is still on hold.
In total, I paid €229 to Booking and another €383 directly to Avis — €612 for just 3 days. That’s absolutely ridiculous, to say the least.
I’ve tried to contact customer service to get at least part of my money back, but it’s been impossible. It feels like this company couldn’t care less about their customers.
Avoid them if you can.

These are the worst of the worst people I have ever had to deal with. Hundreds and hundreds of pounds of additional charges which I have disputed and they have just ignored me. My mental health is in a really bad place from this, I have told them this and they do not care AT ALL. They practically laughed at me down the phone when I told them I don't have the money to pay the additional invoices which weren't stated to me before I rented the car and have just completely ignored my emails.
The lowest of the low of companies, complete con artists and just general scumbags. I actually can't articulate how bad the service I have received from them has been.

Do not rent from Budget or Avis
Car rental in El Paso Texas. Family week to visit elderly and ailing family. Had 3 Elderly people with me in the vehicle. We drove only to hospital, motel, and to the house to help pack the family. The car got a flat tire. We did nothing wrong including but not limited to not driving on the flat. No construction zone etc there was no cause on our part. Pics and videos taken including video of the tow truck company loading the vehicle. Took hours to find a phone number for road side assistance.
Had to drive to airport to get a replacement vehicle. Per their instructions. We complied with everything. All with a 91.5 yr old, a physically compromised 83 yr old and a 73 year old with me at night. I put more fuel into the tank than was used and drove less than 21 miles on the replacement vehicle as we had it for less than 24 hrs.
Have been overcharged, falsely charged for fuel, falsely stated that we drove over 2000 miles (even have pix of the odometer and their own statement shows 20.27 miles driven) and now a false invoice claiming vehicle damage.
Budget & Avis have sent numerous emails stating they can not help b/c they can not find a contract. I even asked for the contract when the car was originally picked up at the airport. Was told there is no contract to give you. Proof of contract and all fuel and originally charges have been provided every single time. (a total of 5 times now) Then a new invoice is sent today stating that there was damage to a car requiring towing. Suddenly budget can find a contract to create a false bill. There are videos of everything being perfectly done and going the extra mile to return the vehicle when no one was there to check us in. No way to upload the videos. The internal processes for Avis and Budget adversely affects the customer. No damage was done to the vehicle the tank was more than full. Customer service is non existent~ we will fight this. We have begged for help and even their own employees will not respond to another employees request to resolve the situation. 11 emails with all evidence provided. This is crossing legal lines. FTC complaint is being drafted. In addition, we are informed that there are potential consumer protection violations. Specifically, that prohibit unfair and deceptive business practices. Falsely charging for fuel an/or for damage is deceptive and/or fraudulent.

I rented a car with Budget Avis at Aberdeen airport on 27th December 2024 for 3 days. We returned car in perfect condition and as of today 27th January we have not received a refund of our deposit. I have rented a car back in June 2024 in Canada. My experience with them was bad. First of all, I was told to come on time to receive the rental car but had to wait two hours to receive it making me late for my destination. After I have returned the car, I was then charged $500 for damaged I have not done and now they claim they will take further action without my notice. I have even had full coverage for insurance but I am still receiving letter about having to pay $500 for damaged that were not done by me. It was the worse customer service and rental car company. Please do not rent from here and just pay an extra $20 for a different company. They are the worse I have seen. This is a fraud and scam.

Two years ago, I booked a car by Avis in Düsseldorf. Everything went was fine at that time. I was fined in my trip and I paid that right away. Some weeks ago I got an aggressive email from eCollect AG (debt collector or Inkaso) that I need them a huge fee because of my rental, otherwise they would go to court. And because I had not reacted to their previous warnings, I need to pay a penalty on top of that. Totally false. They did not send me anything before, and did not ask for any money earlier. This is terrible service from Avis: instead of contacting their customers and asking them directly, they sell the debts to debt collectors. I contacted the customer service (both mail and phone) and of course did not get any response.

Final charge 30% more than when I made reservations. Agent at counter didn’t disclose the charge for use Sunpass. She just ask me where I will use the car and I said I will go to Miami. Then she said” oh you definitely need Sunpass” and just booked for me. If she told me the price of Sunpass, I definitely won’t choose this $13/day Sunpass. After return I called the 1-800 number, even I choose custom service, not new reservation, the person answer the phone always tell me they are new reservation. And transfer me to the customer service, never had any people answer the transfer, wait 40 minute two time nobody answer. Just now, talked to a supervisor who can directly answer the phone in reservation department. But he still can’t do anything and has to transfer me to custom service department which feels like doesn’t even exist! Very bad experience use budget rental. Very bad.

Jet2 booked us an Avis Budget rental car in Madeira. It was a total nightmare.
Break problems and flat tires when the car was collected. Inaccuracies in their paperwork. Upsold us on a broken navigation device.
Nobody at their customer service line or email address picks up the phone or replies to emails.
Now I'm getting unexplained charges to my credit card from them.
I didn't feel safe driving their vehicle and I'm worried they're taking money out of my bank without my permission.
Avoid like the plague.

I booked through their official home page. The car I received was beneath standard with many damages. Cars seem to be parked outside on a public parking lot at Vagar Airport. Whether the weather was bad or late is not known, but the Budget employee only gave an explanation of the car's location pointing me in the right direction. The car had visual damages all over but especially on the front door, which also did not close tight, but a whistling sound came from the door sealing when driving at higher speed. Having driven the car I notice that the front door on the driver side does not lock but all other doors and trunk do, when using the R/C on the car key. Response from company is that it probably just the R/C batteries that might need changing. Not wanting the waste valuable time I continue in my rental, and delivered it before office hours in same condition as I received it. Some days after I receive a notice that I damaged the front door of the car, of course. Charges have been taken of my credit card. Sure enough the company does not reply to any questions about the damages and report reagrding repairs. This branch obviously does not administer and inspect their cars properly. I don't want to make accusations of scam, but their operations make it quite easy for others to end in the same situation as me, so be very careful when using this company.
