I thought I came from Yorkshire and with an uncommon surname it would be easy. I found my ancestors in Derbyshire and Northamptonshire! I found one tried for murder and relatives in USA, Canada and Australia. It is great to chat on line with distant relatives.

So many more details are available week by week. If you concentrate with the details that you already know its quite easy to add more information and delete those which are not relevant. Downside is the frequency when hints are not available

Fabulous system which I have now used since 2011. I have been able to take branches of the family far, far back and it provides huge pleasure in being able to ask 'Who do you think you are?'

I'd recommend Ancestry 100% I've been using this site for very many years, I've found out so much whilst doing my Family Tree.

After taking my DNA test and chatting to my best friend of nearly 50 years about it she said can you get mine done, well can you imagine my face when she pops up as a third cousin to me, we were gobsmacked 😂

I started researching my family history in the days before even microfiche records were made available! To be able to sit in comfort at home and have thousands of records available to me using my laptop is fantastic, especially when you have family who moved every generation!

I used to be able to use Ancestry to search for family details. Recently I am being forced towards items which are nothing to do with my family and can find no way to get out of the system to search for myself. So many other people who dont have the experience that I have learned over many years add mistaken details which your AI sends me towards. Am thinkng of leaving the site and all the work I have accrued. It is most disappointing.

I have found Ancestry.co.uk very helpful when tracing my ancestors.They have very wide information which allows you to gather in depth things about your family .The site is easy to navigate and without it I could not have learnt so much.As far as I can gather Ancestry leads the field in ancestry and over time they have more and more information.I am totally hooked and have used Ancestry over a long period of time.I have traced many of my ancestors back to the 15 hundreds and was thrilled when I found out I had Huguenot relatives. I highly recommend the site and have given it 5*s

It was a really interesting experience researching my ancestor. I've had a few emails from all over the world and found things I never knew. With four lines of ancestry to research it gets very complicated and interesting at the same time. My DNA was also very enlightening and revealed some interesting facts.

Yes, the DNA results produced some staggering revelations. In my wife’s case, it enabled her to find close blood relatives and subsequently to confirm her parentage.

Ive found an enormous amount of history from the site. Hints keep coming and clarifications from near and distant relatives through the message board.

Its always good that hints arrive via email. Some hints I already discovered but new ones are very useful and in some cases unlock a new pathway after being stuck at a dead end for months!

Ancestry is top class. I started researching my Family history and connections, some years ago because having been married four times with children from two of those marriages I wanted all those children to be able to understand what had come before and where everything fits together.
The whole process has become somewhat addictive, but, at 81 years of age, I would love to know what will happen to all that I have learned when I am no longer here.

My wife is from the Caribbean and never knew who her father was, her mother refused to reveal his identity. Her mother passed away in 2015 and in 2018 my wife took a DNA test. This revealed a number of cousins both 1st and 2nd cousins some of Afro Caribbean ancestry and some white. Using some support from new cousins that never knew of my wife's existence, some encouraging others to take their own DNA test and through some detective work she was able to discover conclusively who her father was and a whole new family on her paternal side, some in UK, some still on her Island of origin and some in the USA. The journey to discover more continues.

I knew very little about my background and joined Ancestry to find out more about my family origins. I gained a lot from the DNA results and my research and discovered that I was English (respite a Welsh name), solid working class and could trace some of my roots around the Wigan area back to the 1500s. It was an enjoyable and informative journey and I've worked on it from time to time over the years. Then, in 2023, I had a message that has changed my life. ( I should explain that I'm 85 years of age and live alone since my wife died. No close family left so it's a fairly solitary existence!). Out of the blue a man contacted me. He had joined Ancestry a short while before and, through his DNA, had been notified of a strong relationship being found. In short he was my son, born from a forgotten fling in the '60s. Through an exchange of emails and a meeting we found that, not only do we share physical likenesses, but mannerisms and we have similar tastes in sport, cars, movies and other things. Thanks to Ancestry I now have a brilliant son, a lovely daughter-in-law and two wonderful grand children. We meet often, I stay with them on visits and we get on famously. I've gone from being a lonely old man to being the patriarch of a lovely and loving family. My life has changed completely. Behind the scenes the folk at Ancestry handled this whole thing with sensitivity and care. Thanks to them my last years will be full of joy.

I have been a member, on and off for 20 years and discovered so much about my families past. Not only the names, occupations and where they live but it's lead me to discovering so many places and the social history.
Depending how much or little you want to know, Ancestry is a must.

I have been usung ancestryUK for many years and have grown my tree extensively. However, I do find that when i have been doing searches lately, none of them have been British. All of my search come up for the US. I have found that it is happening more and more despite using the correct information.

By correct information, I meant that I do select uk and Ireland records whilst using ancestry.co.uk. I am very precise in my searches and find your reply most unhelpful.

I enjoy my Ancestry journey. Right from the start I felt it was something I could achieve. I have also accessed the Zoom sessions e.g the one on the 1921 Census was really useful. However a lot of the detail in other sessions have felt too US orientated. There has been a lot to glean from hints but best of all has been the contact with others searching. One is encouraged to access other add ons and although I have gone up to worldwide I can't afford to do Newspapers and Services. I would like it to be easier to print off a family tree for other family members. I find the whole process rewarding but addictive. It can take up many hours but I am happy with that.

I've discovered so much history about Dublin and Cork whilst learning about my Irish ancestors. That's why after 9 years I still enjoy logging in every day. A lovely legacy for my son's.

My score should be 9/10 rather than 4/5. Up to my 70s I was mis-informed who my father was. Having used Ancestry to compile the stories of those from my (then) village who died in WW1, I decided to see if I could find out about the man I thought was my father. A DNA test pointed to some first cousins who had also had DNA tests. I managed to contact one of them and with his help managed to identify which of his uncles was my father. I contacted my suspected sister who agreed to tajke a DNA test, which proved that we were half-siblings. That's the positive side.
The negative has come when trying to identify my younger brother's father. Everything I have managed to get from open records on Ancestry points to the man I thought was my father being his father! The problem is that I cannot get that final DNA confirmation. Standing in my way is someone who identifies as my brother's first cousin. They do not have a tree and although quite active on Ancestry, will not respond to my requests for help.
Is that because they have found skeletons that they do not want to admit to? I don't know, but if you embark on family research you must be ready for some to pop out somewhere in the past.
