Not every Parish register, Will, Army record, etc. is on Ancestry and even those collections which purport to be complete are not, with individual parish records not being completely transcribed, when there are filmed registers or printed transcriptions available in Archives/Records and available on other websites. Remember that the transcribed databases are transcriptions and therefore prone to error. DNA does throw up surprises, I've an entire line of descent that begins with the wife of a ggggrand father but has nothing before him, because each family only has daughters

Find your ancestors
I have used Ancestry for the past 12 years and every year they added more information so I have now complied a comprehensive history of my family back to 1560.
The ability to contact other distant relatives saved time and work and adding the newspaper facility made my records more interesting.
I found ancestors who fought at Waterloo, who worked for the East India Company, who were transported to Australia and a Marshall in America in 1870.

The happy and sad history in families.
Pleased to find information I never knew about and finding relatives and getting to know them. There were some shocking and sad details but I was glad to find these details out as they have helped me understand my family more.

Good for Records but beware the hints, user trees and thru-lines
There are lots of real records on Ancestry so that's good, but beware of hints, other trees and thru-lines! Other people's research may not be sound so double check everything before you accept a hint and a thru-line

Saving all my research
Starting on my family tree with Ancestry has been amazing.
Don't think the site will do the work for you but it gives you a place to record and save everything you discover and some of the information in other trees can be very helpful. Unfortunately the majority of trees are nonsense, and to be avoided.

Good deals-finding my Tudors!! Couldn't believe it-nobility too! Also just how English I am!!! I found a village in Norfolk where a lot of my Ancestors where born and died -visited and it was so lovely!
My Paternal Grand Father is still mainly the enigma-there are gaps I can't uncover but I shall still ask questions?

That is such an amazing discovery! Uncovering Tudor roots and nobility—and actually getting to walk the streets of that Norfolk village where your ancestors lived and died—must have been an incredible experience.
As for your paternal grandfather, every great family tree has that one mystery waiting to be solved! Don't give up—often a newly digitized record, a subtle hint, or a DNA match is all it takes to break through that brick wall.

Family Records at you fingertips
I started my Family History research long before most records were computerised, but Ancestry enabled me to find records hidden by time and distance. Deaths etc I had searched for for 20+ years were found, often in unexpected places. Worth every penny, member since 2011.

Clunky, out-of-date and in sore need of modernisation
The basic idea is a good one. It is now rather expensive if you want to carry out any but the most basic genealogical research. I wouldn't mind if the software was kept up-to-date. Unfortunately, the platform is hopelessly clunky, with numerous annoying glitches and bugs. To give only 1 star would be unfair, but Ancestry.co.uk has fallen way behind the times and needs a radical overhaul of the entire platform.

I have found very little for the money…
I have found very little for the money I have sprnt. Many of the hints lead to newspapers that you need to subscribe to before you cannsee the hint. Very irritating. You also keep repeating the hints and calling them
new hints. You have very limited military history, both American and British. Also your search function is frustrating for a specific person. It gives you many names tat don’t match the name you entered. Often waste of time looking through many pages of names.

The Ancestry system of pushing hints is very irritating
At the moment I find Ancestry very irritating. They keep feeding me hints about information I already. And in particular the hint says I don't have a marriage date, which I do in fact have

We completely understand your frustration with getting redundant hints, especially for marriage dates you've already added. This issue usually occurs if a date isn't using Ancestry's standard format (e.g., 12 Jun 1885)—causing the algorithm to read the field as missing—or if an empty duplicate marriage event exists on the profile. Updating the date to the suggested standard format or deleting secondary blank events in the profile's Facts tab will stop these hints. You can also simply click Ignore on the hint to permanently clear it. We appreciate your patience and are passing your feedback directly to our product team!

Long lost cousins.
I have been tracing my family for a long time and Ancestry has enabled me to grow my tree finding family in Australia just from a story handed down that a "cousin " had emigrated and started a family.From there things rapidly progressed and other branches of my surname appeared along with my maternal side.None of this would have been possible without Ancestry.
