That is why I have returned to Ancestry to trace my family tree.

I've only ever used Ancestry as a guest and I also use it from my local library. Recently someone contacted me from Germany & he came to visit & earlier this year someone else visited. I've been researching my family for many years & I'm meticulous about it so I get very upset when I see people making errors because they don't do any research e.g. they add names on censuses without checking the relationship therefore if a woman died in childbirth she'll disappear from their history which I find sad. I think it's the best there is. I ordered a DNA test yesterday.

Easy to enter information, already acquired, and the more information added results in even more relations coming to light, thereby enhancing the experience greatly.

I'd have given 5 stars had it not been quite so expensive.

I have been using Ancestry since 2003. I like that I can recheck transcripts of church registers. It is much easier to use than any other Company out there. And since AI has come on the scene, giving clues I find Ancestry even better. But always double check any hints etc that come your way and certainly check any information you may come across on other trees. You and I are do make the odd mistake which can take you down the wrong path totally. Most of all, enjoy your new found hobby. You will soon be hooked.

Been a member for possibly 20 years now and it has gradually gone downhill for genealogy research. These days the searches and hints throw up a lot of unmatched stuff or material relating to a sibling or generation away. Just not matching closely enough, so you spend ages weeding out mismatches or unverified materials. I'm getting matches for just the surname and rough era matching and when the name is common, e.g. Edwards, that's a lot of rubbish to sort through. If they have to keep it as it is, can they not incorporate another hint levels where a minimum of factors must match to be reported. At least other people's trees can be excluded form the searches since many people add data which is not verified and just confuses things more so. I'm seriously considering swapping to another site which might have a better system even if it has fewer sources. It's just taken all the pleasure out of it.

Too many errors on transcriptions that can lead to dead ends. D.N.A. was a waste of money. I learnt nothing, links were mainly family I am already in contact with (family known links, not found through Ancestry) One so called first cousin once removed which neither of us can account for. Would not recommend.

I subscribed to thier Free Trial for 14 days to see how things worked/performed. Gave them my CC details to allow me to use the trial which I understand. To allow them to check my identity etc. Like using your CC to secure a Hotel Reservation etc.
I cancelled the Free Trial after 5 days as I found it difficut to use. This was the reason I subscribed to the Free Trial Offer. Hope that makes sence.Only to see my CC HAS BEEN CHARGED £7.99

I never knew my grand parents and so I joined Ancestry in 2020 and discovered so many fascinating things about them, many I don't think even my parent's knew. I also discovered numerous 1st cousins I never knew I had and was able to contact a few. I have experience of other similar apps, all have pros and cons but I think on balance Ancestry is the best.
PROS (of Ancestry)
# Reasonably intuitive, quick and easy to use to build family trees.
# Hints are very helpful.
# Availability to other users' trees is very useful and to be able to contact them.
# DNA service very revealing
# Huge database of records and DNA
# Has access to overseas records
CONS
# Search engine generally OK but for more specific searches apps like Find My Past are much better.
# The facility for printing family tree diagrams is limited.

Have traced so much of my family on all sides a day through DNA have been in contact with a second cousin which is very interesting

As far as building and storing a family tree goes, I can't compare Ancestry with other similar family history sites because it is the only one I've used. I find it easier to search local records in FindMyPast though, especially in my local area where the parish BMD records are particularly good. The Ancestry search engine is cumbersome and difficult to make the filters work. It is also, at times, extremely slow to load, and quite clunky. But it's great having a (now massive) tree stored, with all documents and photos attached.

hints are inaccurate and pointless: I dont nned a hint to tell me when my husband married me. I dont need a hint changing a date of birth for my father from the correct one to someone else's erroneous fact. if I find the hints I am given about people close to me are inaccurate then I have zero confidence in hints for distant relatives.
The traits in my case are about seventy five per cent wrong.

I e mailed in August and have still not had a response.

Some time ago Ancestry revealed to me my 3 x Great Grandfather's baptism thankfully the priest had noted his date of birth and place of birth which answered many questions

I took their DNA test a little while back in the hope of unlocking secrets about my father’s paternal line, and I’ve made, and continue to make, some extraordinary discoveries. It can be a very absorbing and enlightening pastime.

in my humble opinion and as this was the very first Family Tree ANCESTRY site I joined many years ago. I find records updated well and very accurate. I love how you can put your membership on hold when you are worn out especially with brick walls. Then like magic Ancestry uk or Ancestry.com updates records and brick wall comes down. And of course recently DNA records and matches have become so very useful. I've tried other sites & must say i always return to Ancestry uk Its so easy to follow Hints & Tips and it's great if you make an error or almost delete something important with it's 'Are you sure' warning. It is also better than others for contacting potential family. I trust this site above others. Great value and unique items to assist us in our Genealogy quest.

I love the hints, focuses the searching and prompts me to check and do a little more research.

I found much more than I ever expected to. There are so many records to see.

Very easy to use, and you get good reaults.

Been a paying subscriber for well over 20 years. First time I've ordered a DNA priority test in attempt to find a missing person in a 17k+ tree. Test kit successfully completed lab processing in 5 days but has now been stuck in 'Analysed' for 13 days. That's not a priority service and I successfully reclaimed my priority payment after quoting Consumer Rights Act 2015. Spent over a week chatting to support agents every day who kept monotonously repeating the same script and who refused to tell my why my results have not been loaded. One even gave me a sweetener of a month's free Pro Tools (which aren't much use without my results).

Ancestry refused a formal complaint, said there was nobody to escalate complaint to and insisted I still have to wait 19 days from analysed date before they would look at the matter again. I still haven't received my DNA results to date and am having to complain to the ICO in order to get personal data that Ancestry are withholding for a reason they do not wish to disclose.
