Do not move with this company

Do not move with this company. They use local movers that do not communicate with you . Read the entire contract before you sign. Do not fall for their “expedited move fee” that guarantees the move to initiate in 7 days.

Leigh, our goal is for every customer to have a great move, and we are sorry that you were unhappy with your experience. We perform thousands of moves a year and are proud of receiving very few complaints. In this situation, according to the contract, this customer's long distance move delivery was not scheduled within 7 days. Also, customer paid the carrier directly, bypassing us. When she called to complain, although we tried to work with both her and the carrier, ultimately since this was NOT a service she paid for through Extra Mile, she had to deal with the carrier who moved her. This was explained to her ad-nauseam. Furthermore, the carrier has already refunded her in full.

What an absolute disaster of a company. They lie about everything from arrival, delivery and especially the prices. They appear to be a broker and not an actual moving company as everyone I’ve spoken with since the original contact has been third party. They mark you down for the truck minimum, knowing that your move will be more and cost more than the “quote” they provide. They are shady in how they deal with payment, with some parts paid by Zelle or cash only, some take Venmo, some take credit card, but there is no continuity. I highly recommend you look elsewhere for your move.

UPDATE:
Response from company is false. The driver of the actual truck would only take Zelle, no other payment option. You can make the initial deposit on a card, but nothing else. The driver also informed me they will only take Zelle for the balance at delivery. You have to pay 3 different times using this company. The date change was reflected in the signed contract, so changing the date prior to execution is irrelevant. There was no one day option offered when speaking to their agent who sent me the original contract. The actual truck driver confirmed that the company had reserved the minimum space allowed on the truck, which is why I will end up paying about $1,000 than the original contract quote. Also, I’ve used several moving companies over the years and have never had these problems so acting like this is standard operating procedure of moving companies is also false.

Thank you Zachary for your review. We apologize it did not go as you hoped. Couple of things I'd like to address.
1. Yes we're a broker, it states this not only in our contract but in Large black letters at the front of our website.
2. You yourself changed the date for pickup numerous times(with us waiving the fee) for last minute reschedules.
3. You reserved a two day pickup window when a one day window was available. You did not want to pay for the one day pickup window there for you got the two day of the 15/16 and you were picked up on the 16th.
4. We don't mark anyone down for anything, that's not how the estimate process works and anyone reading this will understand that we estimate based on the information given to us. When you have more items, need more space, or require additional packing that is when the estimate changes. This also, is in big bold letters at the top of our contract.
5. Us and every mover in America is required to offer more then one payment option. We do take any and all credit cards, there is just a surcharge associated with using a card. Once again this comes back to you did want to pay the surcharge that we as a small business pay ourselves.
6. You as the client always have the option to keep the same services and have the same pieces moved as the estimate. Or to request additional service and have additional pieces moved for a revised price. You chose to have this done.

Tried charging 4x the amount - forcing NDAs

UPDATE BASED ON COMPANY RESPONSE

Professional companies I've worked with in the past would give a refund if they failed to fulfill an order or service. Extra Mile Vanlines continues to hold my money for ransom. Let's address their response, which shows no accountability.

1) If you hold clients' deposits for ransom, specifically you told me you will not refund me unless I sign an NDA, limiting how I speak about you, then yes this is coercion and manipulation. I booked your company based on positive reviews I read. Only to later learn your business practice is to pressure people into signing legal documents in order to get their money back. Thus, those people can't speak about their experience openly. This is the nature of an NDA.

2. The BBB has nothing to do with the reviews or clients you make sign an NDA because the clients probably can't report you. You're throwing big words around that are meaningless.

3. Yes, you reached out to me, to try to coerce me into signing a legal document. There is nothing more to discuss. Refund my deposit because you did not deliver the service promised and broke our booking agreement. There's literally nothing more to discuss. I tried reaching out to Chris and he never responded. Derek threatened me. I am now letting our financial institutions handle it. Yet, instead of letting them work it out, you continue to harass me into signing a document. I told you I will not be signing an NDA per advice from my lawyer.

4. I agree that, as in any industry, it is standard to increase the price as quantity increases. As I stated in my original review, this is not the case in my situation. I was in clear communication with Chris the entire time, which I have documented. I did not increase my inventory list and have proof that my total cubic feet was under limit per our booking agreement. I had the exact inventory list per our booking agreement.

Stop lying to me. Stop lying to your customers. Stop lying to potential customers. Stop stealing people's money and your shady business practices. 

ORIGINIAL REVIEW:
In October, I began searching for a moving company for a cross-country move in late November. A rep from Extra Mile Vanlines reached out to pitch their services. We discussed my inventory, services, and pricing, culminating in a "binding" price agreement based on my specific inventory and a 475 cu. ft. (3,325 lbs) space limit.

I repeatedly confirmed the price would not increase and was reassured via text and phone that the rate was binding. I researched the company, and because of positive reviews, which I later found out are manipulated, paid a deposit.

The dispatcher, reconfirmed these details on 11/20 and reiterated the agreed price and inventory. On 11/22, movers were scheduled between 1-4 pm but arrived at 7:10 pm. The truck driver, briefly looked at my apartment and claimed the price had increased to four times the agreed amount without providing evidence.

My inventory matched the original agreement, and later, I verified that my belongings fit into a 10ft U-Haul truck (402 cu. ft.), well under the 475 cu. ft. limit. When I contacted the dispatcher about the price discrepancy, he initially offered to find another mover but quickly became hostile, threatening that I would lose my deposit unless I signed an NDA.

This confirmed a pattern of bait-and-switch tactics, where consumers are pressured to pay inflated fees at the last minute.

With no alternative, I rented a U-Haul and moved myself, incurring significant emotional, financial, and physical stress.

Despite Extra Mile failing to honor the agreement, they refused to refund my deposit unless I signed an NDA, which I declined per legal advice from my lawyer.

Extra Mile's behavior includes using deceptive practices, threats, and coerced agreements to exploit customers. Their positive reviews appear manipulated, as NDAs prevent honest feedback.

Firstly, I can assure you that our reviews are not manipulated; our A rating from the BBB can attest to that. With that being said, we have reached out to you several times to discuss this and you have been non-responsive. Our trusted network of carriers carefully document each and every move with pictures, video, and clear communication with us, and your move was no different. Every move is calculated based on cubic feet which we determine based on the inventory list that the client provides us. If a carrier shows up and there is substantially more items than what has been told, obviously the price will increase. This is an industry standard. We look forward to discussing this matter with you in further detail and encourage you to contact us at your convenience.

Incomplete job …

They brought partial pieces of multiple things. Tables with no tops and one top but no table, lost the rod to attach the top of my dining table. A footboard and no headboard, a bed but no rails. I've never been so disappointed. $5000 and they had nothing to say except we signed for it. I lost my temper and I don't regret it. Worst service I've ever recieved. Obviously nothing I can do but I highly do not recommend. Not even an apology offered and then shocked when I lost it.
Your reply does not address the issue of your movers taking apart the furniture in storage and then not bringing all the pieces. My son signed for them because you called me after 11 the night before thanksgiving. I realize there is nothing I can do, but it was the absolute worst job I've ever paid thousands to have done and I have partial pieces of multiple items so I will continue to write as many reviews as possible to warn others. Do not trust these movers!!!! I did make a report to BBB and I am currently looking for anywhere and everywhere to leave a review.
Also, this is my first ever bad review on anyone. I'm generally very understanding. This is taking advantage of the fact that I had already moved and was not there to watch every item be loaded. Nor could I take off from my healthcare job on Thanksgiving last min to watch every item be unloaded. I trusted(my mistake) and now have to hire movers again to get the pieces you took off and did not bring. My lesson of course. You have to live with the fact that you know you're movers did a terrible job and took advantage of the fact that I couldn't be there to supervise

With that being said, your belongings were picked up from the storage units per your contract, never left our truck once loaded, and all pieces picked up were delivered and accounted for as per the inventory stickers. You yourself checked these and then signed the form, which we will be happy to forward to you, stating you received all of your belongings. Furthermore, you were upset because we didn't assemble some pieces that were not assembled when we picked them up, and we have pictures showing this. So I am confused as to where your unhappiness is coming from. We keep careful records of all our moves complete with pictures. I have the inventory list which you signed if you need a copy. HORRIBLE COMPANY they lie and NEVER show up

Horrible company they kept giving me the run around they will be here tomorrow, and the next day and never show up. They are a BROKER ! When they finally showed up the driver tripled my price and I had less items.

Do Not Use Extra Mile Van Lines (or LoadRans LLC)

Do not contract with this company. As others have said, they are not a Moving Company. They are a contract company that farms out the pick up, transportation and delivery of your goods. Their business model is a contractor not a mover that puts the consumer in a very negative position. We did a move from California to Nevada and we were forced to work with two other companies that we did not contract with. Extra Mile Van Lines sent a U-Haul to our house to pick up with a company we had never heard of and had no intention of working with. The transportation component of the move was even worse. Once extra mile contracted us with a terrible company LoadRans LLC that stretched out the delivery of our goods because they “didn’t have a truck going to Nevada”. Why would they contract a move if they didn’t have the ability to execute the move? We had to badger them to make the 10 day agreement, although they made it clear that they had 30 days to deliver our goods to our new home. Once they had our goods in possession, they had LoadRans LLC complete the final steps in the move. This company is absolutely predatory and unscrupulous. They extorted us for $1400 by lying to us and telling us that their semi truck could not make it into our neighborhood due to traffic circles. However, there was a clear open path without traffic circles to move our items in the large truck to our home. They also lied about where our stuff was and the timing of the driving to Nevada and the offloading of our goods to a smaller truck (what they call a shuttle). The timeframe they communicated is impossible to execute therefore our goods were already in our new city when they told us that we were gonna have to pay them an extra $1400 for them to be able to deliver our goods to our home. We finally agreed to the $1400 to get our stuff delivered and then the driver shows up two hours before sundown and his worker that was supposed to show up is a no-show/no call. So, the actual move got shifted even an extra day. The whole moving industry is predatory and negative for the consumer. I don’t understand how the DOT has not investigated and made major changes to this predatory extortion industry.

Chris, we are sorry your experience with Extra Mile wasn't 100% satisfactory as it is always our intention to deliver every customer a great moving experience. That being said, things can go wrong during a move sometimes, that are beyond our control, but we are always here to fix any mistakes from our side. Please let me address your concerns. Yes, we are a broker and we never hide that fact. Our website clearly states this. In fact, if you were to go on our website, it says so right there on the homepage. But unlike many other brokers, we only work with a small and trusted network of carriers with a proven track record of success. Each of our carriers have multiple years of experience providing great moves for their customers. Your stuff was delivered within the 10-day allotted window as set by the DOT and this move was completed as per the terms set in the agreement. The only extra charge that you incurred was a Shuttle Charge (which is also a legal charge allowed by the DOT). This charge doesn't occur in every move, but only in cases where the truck doesn't fit into the space to allow the move to happen. Had we known about this issue at your destination before arriving there, we would've informed you about this charge beforehand as well. However, you had not mentioned anything of the sort and there's no way for us to know either. The additional charge is for shuttle service (when all of your goods had to be moved from the semi truck to a smaller truck in order for the truck to make delivery due to size constraints/roundabouts). This takes extra time and effort on the movers part and thus the extra charges. You said you understood this, but did not want to pay for the shuttle charge. Unfortunately this is out of our control as it is a charge the Carrier adds-on, and it is a standard charge with every single moving company that faces this scenario. We understand that it is frustrating when unexpected things occur during a move. Unfortunately, this was out of our control. We wish you nothing but happiness in your new home.

Avoid this company

Told them what we had to be moved via phone call. Had a zoom call so they could see what needed moved. Charged us an additional $700 for bulky items after zoom call Moving day came a crew of three guys showed up with a 26' box truck. They did not take everything that was listed and was shown on the zoom call. Have tried several times to get a claim form for damaged furniture. Now no response from company. I have had to make 2 trips back to move what was not taken. This has cost me more time and money. Definitely avoid this company. They charged us $6900 to bring a half loaded 26' box truck. ME8079737. Not putting my email. You have my wife's email. If only the tool box was left I actually would have had no problem. We were not told to empty the box. You obviously have that recorded. I offered Steve Goldman to have another zoom call on the 16th to show what was left behind. He declined. Items not taken included, yard tools, husky work bench on wheels, outdoor furniture, file cabinet, dresser mirror in a box, 6 metal shelf units.I actually moved myself to PA with a 26' box truck. The truck was not fully loaded as there was plenty of cubic space left. I have rented 2 5x8 trailers so far to move everything not taken. Still have items in my shed to move. My wife did receive the claim form after I submitted my review. Let's see how it goes on the damaged furniture once claim form is submitted.

We have a proven track record of success with thousands of happy customers to back this up, and regret when a customer is left unhappy. Please allow me to address your concerns. In our initial call with your wife, which we have a record of, she stated that anything over the amount of what the truck would hold, you would be taking in a U-Haul so as not to incur additional expenses. The moving truck was then indeed fully loaded with your things, and the only item left behind was a tool box which weighed in excess of 1,000 lbs. The weight of this item was not mentioned on the Zoom call and we have no way of knowing the weight without you telling us. The carrier would have needed extra equipment to move this piece, which would have meant an additional charge which you declined. The carrier went out of his way to further provide you with Free packing and crating, which they were under no obligation to do. As to the claim form, we texted you the claim instructions on 11/14 and have a screenshot to back this up as well. We truly do everything in our power to make sure every customer is satisfied and are sorry you felt otherwise.

Stay away

Stay away, this is not a moving company. It is a brokerage company that finds the cheapest movers to move you valuable belonging. I was told I would get some money back because the move was not done on the dates requested however, after the move they did not contact me and did not respond to emails.

They are scammers

Horrible experience with these people. They give you one price on the phone and make you sign a contract and then they try to get another $1800 from you after everything is loaded in the truck and if you don’t Pay them they will threaten you. They did a horrible job of packing just threw stuff in the boxes very unorganized unprofessional and scammers would not use these people for anything in the world. Talk to a Derrick and he was just as bad as his helpers he was very unprofessional talked rudely to me, and just would not trust these people with my life. Do not use them.

We also were courteous enough to give you a free re schedule fee when you called on the morning of the move to tell us have a headache. We did this at no cost even though we were already in route to you. This client was moved successfully, for the exact amount of money they were quoted.

BEWARE OF THIS MOVER!

Please choose another mover. Extra Mile Van Lines (Shawn Hart, owner) was in breach of contract on our interstate move in June 2024 in four areas: 1) LACK OF PROTECTION ON OUR THINGS ("all furniture will be wrapped in quilted moving blankets" is part of the contract but virtually none of that happened and more than half of our furniture was damaged through that negligence!!); 2) ILLEGAL PRICING (they raised our price by $500 once all of our possessions were loaded on the truck -- with the reason given for the price change being that we refused to meet the moving van 700+ miles away 17 hours later (a turnaround not allowed by the Extra Miles contract, nor by the DOT rules); 3) MISSED PICK UP WINDOW (2-days late); and 4) DROP OFF TO WRONG LOCATION (Our contract included a 2-stop drop off but several items, including large and heavy items, were knowingly dropped off at the wrong (2nd) location because the movers refused to locate the proper items on the truck once it was noticed that several things were missing before leaving the 1st stop. THE COMPANY IS NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE. FOR FIRST TIME EVER, WE ARE FILING A SUIT AGAINST A COMPANY WHO WON'T SEEM TO RESOLVE THIS ANY OTHER WAY.

This customer's move went successfully and as per the agreed estimate. We are not sure why they've filed a complaint over 3 months after their move was done.

Their move happened on May 30th and they were delivered on June 1st. That's over 725 miles move that we made it happen in 1 day to give her the best service.
They were picked up on May 30th, which was their agreed upon pickup date as per the agreement (agreement copy can be provided if needed). So, the pickup was actually on time and not 2 days late as per her complaint. We also have the BOL from the Carrier which will show the pickup date and her signature. BOL can be provided if needed.

The BOL will also show the final price of the move. The estimate we gave her and the final price on the BOL is also the same. Which means the price of her move didn't go up. The $500 extra charge she is referring to is the charge that the carrier had to charge separately because she refused to take delivery on June 1st eventhough our crew was there and ready to deliver and they had to wait till the next day. After we booked her move, our manager spoke to her on the phone and informed her that we were able to request the carrier to deliver then within 1 day to make everything smooth for her. They were to pickup all the stuff and drive straight to IL and deliver on June 1st. She said that was great and agreed to it. We have a recording of this if needed. We told her they'll only be stopping over on the way as per the DOT requirements. But when the crew got their on the 1st she said she wasn't ready and insisted they deliver her the next day. The carrier had to make arrangements for the crew to spend the night and park the truck in a secure location and bear extra expenses.

I'm also attaching a copy of the text from her on the day of the move stating that the crew was very professional and courteous. If something did go wrong during the move, which we understand it can, we never heard from her at all during the move or after the drop off. We never received any emails or communication from her or we would've facilitated some kind of claim process for any damage she claims.

We made everything happen on her move as per the agreement and any promises made. Even pulled out extra strings to make sure her delivery was prompt and on time.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I initially set up a move to be made on June 15, 2024 from Missouri to Indiana. I gave them an itemized list of items to move, the size of my home, how many bedrooms there are, all the information. They wrote up a contract with all that information, including the amount of space they estimated would be needed for everything I told them. I also chose to pay extra for the “white glove” option which they were supposed to pack up to 100 boxes, some small, some medium, and some large. The contract amount was $3995. I paid a down payment of $1195. I kept in contact with Makala who set up the contract and was very nice. However, once the man, Derrick, called me to set up the time of when they would get there and go over the items that I had on the list, things began to go downhill. He rushed me through it, and I asked if I could add a couple more items to the list that I forgot before, and he said yes but wouldn’t give me a price on how much more that would be. Well, on that day that they showed up, they brought a very small truck and two guys. They went through the house and said that this was way more than they thought and that it was going to cost upward of $12000. Obviously, this was drastically different than our contract amount. They left and we got in contact with Derrick, and he was very rude, saying we wanted a lot more moved than what we told them. We made a video of everything and expressed very clearly that anything that was not included on the itemized list would not need to be moved (which was quite a bit of stuff. He also never adjusted the itemized list with the items that I asked about, which was ok. I was contemplating taking those things with me anyway. I was fine to not move them). That seemed to be too complex for him. I asked that they adjust the size of the next truck they send to be able to fit the amount that we had agreed on. They came up with the cubic feet they would need for the stuff that we agreed to, NOT US. He said yes and we set up another time for them to come two weeks later. Well, they showed up with the exact same size truck and no notes about everything we had already been through. Again, they stated they don’t have enough space on the truck. The young guy that showed up with the truck understood that we just wanted the specific items on the list and the boxes that were supposed to be packed but there was no way those items would fit in the truck they sent him with. We got in touch with the Derrick, while the mover guy was still there, and he berated and belittled me stating that I was refusing to pay to move my items and “this is the second time we have sent a truck out to you people and you are trying to move more than what you said and aren’t willing to pay for it”. He would not listen to a word I said. That was the very worst customer experience I’ve had in my life, and I’ve moved many times with movers that the Navy arranged. He would not allow us to speak with a supervisor or manager or whoever was his boss. We ended up canceling it because we NEEDED to get our stuff moved out and had to do it ourselves. We forfeited our deposit because we could no longer communicate with that man. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not use them and save your money for a company that will actually care about you. Allow me to save you the stress, money, and hassle!

Thank you Ashley for your review. A couple of things here, we did come out to your house on the scheduled date to get you moved. Upon arriving there was several (Double) the amount of items that you wanted moved then that you requested on your quote. At the time, they gave you a revised price which you did not want to move forward with to move everything. We then sent another moving carrier out to your house to move the exact list we have estimated for the exact price. At this time, again you had requested to have everything moved which was twice the volume we had. Ultimately this move cancelled. Deposits are non refundable when the moving company has to come out not only once, but twice in an attempt to move you.

Felix, Daniel, and Luis did absolutely amazing! Made our moving breeze, were super friendly and got my entire move done in less than 2 hours!!! I’m never choosing a different company to move locally with.

I had the pleasure of having Chris G., John M., and Abram move my stuff from my apartment to storage. The three of them were kind on top of incredibly helpful and efficient. The wrapped up my large furniture perfectly and took their time to take care and organize my stuff. The pricing was more than fair for the work they put in. So thankful and would recommend to anyone!

Don't Use-Very Disappointed -Unprofessional and Dishonest

First off I am giving one star because I can't give a zero star rating. Do not use this company unless you enjoy getting yanked around and do not expect the moving company to honor what the agreed upon. On top of that the "manager" Derek Gum yelled at me for questioning why they could not meet the agreed upon time. We were scheduling a move for about 5 items moving my elderly father from Wilmington NC to Charlotte NC. The 1st weekend August 31st I was assured the driver or dispatch would call with an estimated time of arrival. We waited and no calls so I called them. I was given an excuse the 11-3 window was an “estimate” when I spoke to Derrick. I called several times between 11-3 due to no updates. Dispatch called at 3:30 to tell us the truck had broken down. So I opted to reschedule.
2nd weekend Friday Sept 13th, 2 hrs into our 4hr drive to Wilmington I got a call from the movers to let us know they would not be arriving until after 6:00 on the 14th when the agreed window was 11-3. I reached back out to Fred at Extra Mile. He said he would check with dispatch and have them call that evening. No one called. Texted Fred at 9:00 am on the 14th. He sounded surprised no one had reached out to me. Finally Derrick called me. When I questioned why the movers were going to be late he started yelling at me. So I hung up and reached back out to Fred. Long story short Derek Gum canceled our move due to us expecting them to honor the agreed 4 hour window???? He also lied to another employee saying we agreed to 9-16 but I never spoke to him other than the one time on Saturday the 14th. Does this sound like the type of headache you want to put up with?

They tried to rip me off for $900 more

They tried to rip me off for $900 more. My estimate was for $1475 for 16 pieces. When they loaded they took up as much floor space as possible of a small truck. They said sofa which wasn’t on the original estimate….even though I told them about it…..was the reason why. In the end there were only 12 items. The movers worked hard but did an awful job of packing the truck. I had them take couch off….and didn’t charge me any extra after that. So they wanted an extra $900 for a couch that was only worth $100. Horrible at communication…they never called me after I put down deposit with delivery info…Derrick who I spoke to multiple times in the office…was rude everytime. I wouldn’t recommend this company for future use!!
