My query concerned the use of sinking funds by our freeholder and a threat of potential legal action. ARAG responded promptly and referred me to Elisa Riberio a Paralegal in the Legal Advice team. She provided clear, practical advice based on the information I shared, helped refine my response to the freeholder, and reassured me that our position appeared strong.
Elisai was professional, knowledgeable, and communicated very well. She was proactive and advised submitting a claim form so the policy cover can be formally assessed.
The initial advice has been positive. However, the real value of legal expenses insurance is how claims are assessed and handled. I would rate Elisa 5 stars. My overall rating for ARAG at this stage is 3 stars, pending the coverage decision and any further claims process.

Absolute frustration. So difficult to communicate with ANYONE - emails not answered for weeks and no calls returned total shambles and I will be contacting my insurance company that recommend these as they are a total waste of time.

Arag Law, and in particular Mr Mohammad Haris, were very helpful in guiding me through the process of Accelerated Procedure for repossession of my property. He always listened very patiently and answered all my very clearly. Without Arag Law and Mr Haris the whole process would have been much more challenging and stressful.
It is very easy to contact the company and make an appointment to talk to a paralegal for advice. The response time is quite quick.

ARAG withdrew legal expenses funding mid-claim based on a “misunderstanding” they later admitted.
Despite admitting they were wrong, they refused to reinstate funding or correct their decision.

The matter was handled by ARAG’s Customer Relations Executive whose final response acknowledged the error but provided no remedy, leaving an active insured claim unfunded and losses continuing to accrue.

ARAG misrepresented their own appointed solicitors’ advice and attempted to deflect responsibility instead of fixing an admitted failure. This handling raises serious concern that withdrawing cover and refusing reinstatement even after admitting error is being treated as a tactic rather than an exception.

An insurer that accepts fault but still leaves customers without cover cannot be trusted.
Escalated to the Financial Ombudsman.

I am now three months into the process of trying to claim cover for legal expenses through ARAG. They have delayed at every turn. A claim handler will promise to phone me back on Thursday, then I'll phone in not having heard from them and find out they're not even in the office that day. Reimbursement for past expenses is promised then never arrives. Emails go unanswered except by an auto-reply that laughably tells you they are "prioritising cases with an urgent deadline" - I suppose my hearing coming up in 6 days somehow doesn't count? I am honestly considering legal action against ARAG themselves at this point, as this surely qualifies as breach of contract multiple times over.

The legal advisor listened to the short term tenancy questions that I needed know with a tenancy that I am experiencing . Evren asked for relevant information making me feel more self assured as I had complied with the law as a landlord. Evren has pointed me in the right direction for serving a section 21 form 6a ,he also advised on helpful time frames. This was dry legal information from courteous legal advisor.

I was put in touch with ARAG through my insurer. The advice I received was prompt, well-considered and delivered in a calming and thoughtful manner. Thomas, who I spoke to, couldn't have been clearer or more helpful. Recommend!

Excellent legal advice prior to making a claim. My assigned legal advisor, Evren, was very polite, knowledgeable and professional.

Evren, the Arag Law advisor returned my call promptly. He explained his role, what he could and couldn’t do and was able to give me some immediate clear advice. A really bad experience with this unknowledgable unhelpful rude company that use every trick in the book to block your claim and not pay out. They should be investigated and closed down

God help you if ARAG is appointed to handle your medical and legal support after a road traffic accident. They were instructed through my motor legal expenses insurance after an RTA in February 2024 (not my fault), and their involvement has been nothing short of disastrous.

ARAG appointed Speed Medical to manage my treatment — a company just as incompetent and unacceptable to deal with — and between the two of them, they have completely failed me. I am now 22 months post-accident with still no meaningful progress in treating my injuries.

I Spent Nearly Two Years Chasing Them

I constantly had to chase both ARAG and Speed Medical for updates. Not once did ARAG proactively contact me. My case was passed from person to person, department to department, with no continuity, no accountability, and no care. I ended up doing THEIR jobs for them just to try to move things forward.

The Complex Case Department Was No Better

Eventually, ARAG moved me to their “complex case department.” The service was just as poor. Repeated promises that were never kept. Reassurances that went nowhere. More delays, more excuses, more deterioration in my health and livelihood.

Senior Management Dismissed My Pleas for Help

After three formal complaints, I finally spoke to a partner at ARAG. His “solution” was a quick apology over the phone — as if that would erase 18 months of suffering. When I questioned how they intended to put things right and actually manage my case properly, his attitude was essentially:
“If you don’t like it, go somewhere else.”

So I did. And thank God I did.

My New Solicitor Has Made More Progress in 6 Weeks Than ARAG Did in 18 Months

This speaks volumes. ARAG left me physically, mentally, and financially worse off. My treatment was delayed beyond belief. Appointments were mishandled. Surgery was delayed and cancelled repeatedly. Reports weren’t followed up. Settlement updates weren’t passed to me. They even forgot to reply to my emails for over a week because they were “too busy.”

A Company That Makes Everything Harder, Not Easier

ARAG is paid to make the aftermath of an accident easier for injured clients. Instead, they made it significantly worse.
If your injuries are even slightly complex, prepare to suffer:

Physically – delayed treatment, cancelled appointments, deterioration of your condition

Mentally – constant stress, no communication, endless chasing

Financially – difficulties with work, delays in progressing your claim, zero urgency

The level of incompetence, lack of care, and continuous mistakes is unbelievable.

I would never recommend ARAG to anyone. Their failures have had a major impact on my life, and I only wish I had moved to a competent solicitor sooner.

The lady I spoke with was extremely informative and gave me so much advice. I would recommend using this company. They are absolutely brilliant.
