Limited Access
I like the idea of having access to my records. But the restrictions of the GP and hospitals not using the same platforms is not useful. I was happy I received a reply with an explanation to my issue.

I received an email notification that my PKB record had been updated. I logged on via the NHS app and all it states is 'Histology' the person who input it and 'no results until 24 June'. This has utterly terrified me as my test was a breast biopsy and I am now thinking the doctor wants to give me bad news on my follow-up appointment day. Waiting for biopsy results is bad enough without the rollercoaster of no results. I suffer from an anxiety disorder and my anxiety is off the scale.

Quick email response, however I still find the service less helpful than patientview where the website was easier to navigate and track readings plus far more easy to find explanations for results. PKB sends email with link but I still have to login and then locate update without any signage.

I asked a simple question for advice, and basically told to book an appointment with my GP , which I would have done anyway, I just needed advice to save booking and seeing a doctor wasting their time.

My previous email provider no longer exists and I was unable to log onto Patients Know Best to enable me to see hospital appointments, letters etc. Stuart Chappell at PKB Support Services was excellent and so very helpful to me. I think that Stuart is a great team member, always replying promptly and efficiently to my queries. Following Stuart’s and the Teams help, I am now successfully able to log into PKB. Thank You

I have received an email to say my record has been updated. So I looked up my password - logged in.. and NOTHING! It invited me to put my own diagnoses and allergies etc onto the record. You'd expect the info to be populated by the NHS (bearing in mind their logo is being used). I have just come back from a Mammogram (I had breast cancer 3 years ago), and thought maybe there would be some information to follow up on that. It just isn't good enough. Complete waste of time! :-(

Have been sent an email telling me my record has been updated but can't access the system either directly or through .my NHS app.their advice is to go through the hospital dealing with my treatment to gain access but hospital switchboard have never heard of them

Trying to register through the NHS Android app was a complete waste of time. Failed every time. Gave up and tried the web login which finally worked.
However, what is the point of this website. Couldnt retrieve any information from recent tests.

Patients Know Best is clearly, cleverly designed not to function. Asking for photo ID, then a video quoting 4 numbers, then saying they will reply in 12 days - all you want not do is read the letters that come from the hospital or GP surgery and this app makes it close to impossible. My guess is that it is another Tory racket.

Patient Knows Best has been a tool integral to my healthcare journey for the past six years. It all started when my medical team set me up with an account after I was put on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), IV artificial nutrition. Initially, I thought it was convenient to access my blood results. However, Patient Knows Best has evolved over time into a vital asset in managing my health effectively.
One of its most remarkable (and helpful features in my journey) features is its proactive approach to healthcare. I get frequent notifications every time test results come through; these are detailed and comprehensive regarding my blood results. They break it down into everything they have tested for - iron, vitamin D, etc. Although it gives me the direct number, as a patient with no medical training, I am still able to quickly tell if something is out of range as the app gives me what my recommended range should be as well as graphs where you can compare previous results with green and red markers that show you how out of range it is. I can access my results anytime, so I often identify potential issues before they are evident to my medical team.
This capability has proven invaluable, particularly concerning infection markers associated with my TPN treatment. Suppose I am worried or concerned about a result. In that case, the app's messaging system allows me to contact my healthcare providers directly, enabling prompt interventions when necessary. There was a time when my infection markers were up, which ended up being a Central line infection (which is a severe medical emergency). After messaging my team through the app, they contacted my local A&E. After explaining the seriousness of the situation, they could fast-track me through.
Patient Knows Best has advocated for my needs as a young woman navigating the healthcare landscape. If I need help accessing any care outside my usual medical team, I can show previous consultant letters, results, or, if needed, a message of support from one of my team. Additionally, Patient Knows Best empowers me to take charge of my treatment journey. Currently, I am working on reducing my PN. By providing direct communication channels to my consultants and healthcare team through the app, PKB has helped accelerate this process. I can also track all my upcoming doctor's appointments and tests.
Only recently have I learned that a patient knows best is a B-corp business rather than attached to the NHS. For many years, I was always under the impression that it was a part of the NHS because of the ease with which it connects me to my team and medical results and how professional it is. It is an ingenious and vital platform that puts patients in control of their healthcare—something so important when you live with a chronic long-term health condition like I do and it has strengthened my relationships and trust with my team!

An absolutely excellent support for people with chronic conditions - helps patients AND their carers and loved ones to better understand and so cope with and manage living with a chronic condition. Patients Know Best, confusingly retitled Care Information Exchange (CIE) in NW London, is brilliant! It has transformed access to my personal health information, and to appointment records. Sadly CIE gets blamed for things it is not responsible for, such as the NHS-imposed 28 day delay in accessing some key data (eg PSA), With perseverance, at least some of these problems can be overcome via the NHSApp. It's unfair to blame CIE for these limitations. Also worth pointing out that they have a most responsive Help service if anything goes wrong, and are way ahead of their competitors (and the NHS) in already achieving Net Zero. Overall I think they are a great organisation.
