Silver Sands, Bembridge a wonderful place
I cannot recommend Silver Sands in Bembridge highly enough. My mum lived there until she sadly passed away, and although losing her was incredibly difficult, I will always be grateful that she had the opportunity to spend her later years in such a wonderful home and community.
From the moment she moved in, Silver Sands gave Mum something that became so important to her — a sense of belonging. She made some truly wonderful friends and, after moving there, really seemed to get a new lease of life. She loved her independence and the freedom that living at Silver Sands gave her, while also knowing that there was a friendly and supportive community around her.
The location in Bembridge is simply fantastic. The village has everything you could want for comfortable, independent living, with a lovely selection of small, independent shops right on the doorstep — including a butcher, bakery, fish shop and a wonderfully friendly convenience store. There is also a church directly opposite and plenty of other amenities within easy reach. It is the perfect size and setting for anyone looking for village life without feeling isolated or overwhelmed.
Mum used a walker, but that never stopped her. She would make her way into the village almost every day, and those trips became a really important part of her routine. She loved chatting to people, saying hello to the shopkeepers and generally being part of village life. Having all of this so accessible made such a positive difference to her independence, confidence and happiness.
Silver Sands itself is beautiful. The building and grounds are maintained to an impeccable standard, and everything is exceptionally well looked after. The apartments are beautifully decorated, appointed and maintained, and they offer the flexibility to live as independently as you wish. Mum certainly enjoyed that independence — although she also loved having friends over for drinks, which she did very regularly!
There is also a wonderful social side to life at Silver Sands. The home manager organises a variety of events and entertainment, giving residents plenty of opportunities to get involved, meet people and build friendships. For someone moving somewhere new and perhaps knowing nobody initially, this makes an enormous difference.
And then there is Jan.
It is difficult to put into words just how much Jan meant to my mum and to our family. She is, without question, one of the greatest assets to Silver Sands.
Jan is exceptionally professional, capable and dedicated, but what makes her truly special is the genuine warmth and care she has for the people who live there. She goes far beyond what could ever reasonably be expected of a home manager. She doesn't simply manage the property and look after the practicalities — she genuinely gets to know the residents, takes an interest in their lives and makes an enormous effort to ensure that everyone feels included, valued, happy and connected.
When Mum first arrived at Silver Sands, she didn't know anyone. Moving home at that stage of life could have been daunting and lonely, but Jan made such a difference. She welcomed Mum, helped her feel part of the community and was there for her in a way that went far beyond professional responsibility. Over time, Jan became not only someone Mum trusted, but someone she genuinely considered a friend.
That says everything.
Jan has a remarkable ability to combine professionalism with compassion. She notices when someone needs a little extra encouragement, makes sure people are engaging and not becoming isolated, and creates an atmosphere where residents feel that they truly matter. Her commitment to the wellbeing and happiness of the people who live at Silver Sands is very evident.
Knowing that Mum was surrounded by people who cared about her gave us as a family enormous comfort. We will always be incredibly grateful to Jan for the kindness, friendship and support she gave Mum, particularly when she was finding her feet in a new home.
Silver Sands isn't simply a beautiful McCarthy & Stone residence. It is a community — and for Mum, it became home.
We will always remember the happiness Mum found there, the friendships she made, the independence she enjoyed and the wonderful people who became part of her life. We couldn't have wished for a better place for her, and we will always be thankful to everyone at Silver Sands, and especially Jan, for making her time there so special.

Wonderful Retirement Property Experience
My mother moved into one of their retirement properties recently and the whole experience has been wonderful. Every member of staff we have met has just been lovely. The sales and letting manager Nora was welcoming and helpful, always going the extra mile. The wardens in the house so supportive and helpful and really do care. The facilities are really thought out well and include little details. I would never have thought of but are proving invaluable to my mother who is of limited mobility.

Bucklands
Anne - the manager was so warm, friendly and has great communication with us. She supported and enabled my parents to have an excellent transition to their new apartment.

Kingfisher Court, Taunton
Moved to Kingfisher Court, Taunton in May 2026 and am very content! The 62 flats are very well run by the general manager Mr Willson. The bistro here is a benefit to many like me who are getting too old to sort our nutritious and delicious lunches. Liberty House, Raynes Park/Wimbledon (staff review)
I have been a homeowner at Liberty House, Raynes Park, Wimbledon almost since it opened. Over the years, we have seen about eight Estate Managers come and go and things did not always run smoothly. Luckily, we now have OJ in place and he has been amazing.
It is not an easy task to run a community of older people and to manage a team of helpers. It requires a variety of skills and OJ somehow ticks just about all the boxes. He is a great administrator, has all the facts and figures on hand (and actually also in his head) at meetings, and has great interpersonal skills. If there is a problem, he finds a solution. He is quick to resolve practical difficulties as they arise (repairs etc) and on a wider scale, has sorted issues within the development, such as with the heating. Before OJ, there were always problems with the heating, but he has improved matters through his collaboration with residents and the company provider. Similarly, OJ also sorted sensor lighting, which is more economical and ecologically sensible. OJ has had a positive effect on resales, as there are now fewer empty apartments.
OJ’s altruism, efficiency and enthusiasm have a positive effect on others. These qualities have enabled him to build a stronger care team and improve relationships with the homeowners. He is by far the best Estate Manager that we have had and we are lucky to have him. Thanks also to those helpers on his team who, like OJ, go that extra mile to keep our community safe and happy.

Wonderful stay.
My friend stayed in the guest suite at Pagham Court Bognor Regis.
She had a comfortable stay. She said that the room was spotlessly clean, nice bedding and it was lovely to have tea and coffee making facilities.
She said that the house manager( Sue Hoyle) went over and above to make sure that everything was nice.
She is looking forward to coming again.

Kings Place Fleet
Mum has lived at Kings Place, Fleet for 8 years. The property is well located within walking distance of shops, restaurants, chemists hairdressers etc. The your life team and Manager are incredibly supportive. As Mums needs changed requiring additional support the team have been able to provide this and help her continue to enjoy life to the full, with trips to the hairdressers, all her laundry done, through to personal care. What has been most important has been the caring and understanding nature of the team members, who have developed strong caring relationships with Mum. The meals in the restaurant each day have been brilliant socialable events. All in all Kings Place is a brilliant community to live in

Residents trip to Raby Castle
The manager at Bygate Court (Deryn ) recently took a group of residents to Raby Castle (one of them being my dad). We had a wonderful weekend at Keatly…
We had a wonderful weekend at Keatly Place. From the moment we arrived, it really did feel like a home away from home. It’s such a comfortable, welcoming space, with a lovely floor-to-ceiling picture window overlooking the front garden.

Sanderling Court, Bournemouth, Dorset
My Mum lived at Sanderling court in Bournemouth for 11 years and was very happy. Mum loved the social side as there were often coffee mornings, lunches, Birthday and Christmas celebration's etc! All the residents were so friendly and helpful too. There is a lovely garden to sit and relax in with family and friends and a beautiful guest suite. The House Manager Amy is amazing. Supportive, kind and incredibly helpful and always there for everyone. Amy also keeps the building clean and organised. There is a convenient bus stop that is located right out side and plenty of parking spaces. Located close to the town, stunning beaches, British Rail train station and Bournemouth International Airport.

The Hailes in Haddington is 10! How did that happen...
It's hard to believe that The Hailes in Haddington is 10 years old. Dad was one of the early arrivals and thrived as an active member of their community - becoming far more sociable than we ever expected! The location is perfect and enabled him to get to shops easily and to maximise his bus pass use.
Sarah, the Manager, was a great support to both Dad and to the family - gently reminding Dad to take his stick with him when heading out to keep him safe.
Since his death last year, we are delighted to have kept the flat 'in the family', as were all over-55s, and we're loving being able to use it ourselves; connecting with the other Homeowners and enjoying their community.
Here's to the next 10 years and many more...🍾

The Boathouse in Bitterne Park
The Boathouse in Bitterne Park, Southampton is a wonderfully welcoming community both for residents and their families. The flats are well designed and the communal areas are very well maintained. The site is very well managed by the housemanager Elizabeth and her team and there are lots of social events for residents to enjoy should they wish to. The location is wonderful with great views and close proximity to parks, shops and buses.
