Staff were super friendly and helpful. The van was an older model with almost 500,000 km on it. The heater did not blow warm air which was really unfortunate because of how cold it was. The refrigerator did not keep cold over night so our food spoiled. Overall we had a wonderful road trip and the camper van worked out well. Price was good considering other rental places.

Lucky Rentals average to below
Lucky Rentals is a inexpensive camper. If you want cheap, go for it. If you can afford more, look elsewhere. We rented the Rambler for the shower, and toilet that you didn't have to remove to use. Having the shower and toilet for anywhere we went was great. The size of the van was great for navigating roads, and parking areas. But the bed is full size or less. The bed insert barely sits on much of a lip, and definitely falls to the floor if you sit on it wrong.
The check in process was frustrating. Many times when we asked questions, they said, "just watch the video". When actually, we needed to go through things with a fine tooth comb, not just gloss over. After departing, we realized the fridge was not working, water not filled, no extra blanket (that we paid for), and the next day a water pump that did not work. If you are hoping to freedom camp, this van needs to be plugged in to charge the battery every 2-3 days. The description we read said that driving the van would charge the battery. Not true.
It's really 2.5 stars. They did give us a day and a half refund for some of our delays of things they needed to go back and fix for us, so that was nice. Average company, average, to below average van.

Inadequate service
Scratched pots and pans and a campervan that wasn’t clean on collection. There was only one duvet, even though we’d booked a campervan for four people.

We had a great experience with Lucky campers, about 2,000 km! The people at reception were very friendly and helpful and the vehicle was perfect for our needs. Only suggestion is that we needed new wiper blades for the pouring rain. Please warn people about the parking fines at the local Pak'n'Save, Mangere.

Gut, wenn man unkompliziert und weniger anspruchsvoll ist.
Unser kleiner Toyota Van hat uns vier Wochen gut durch ein wundervolles Land begleitet und dabei Berge, Täler, Straßen und Wege bravourös gemeistert.
Wenn man bedenkt, dass das Fahrzeug ein ausrangierter Mietwagen eines beliebten Traveler Anbieters ist, hat er seinen Zweck im Vorruhestand erfüllt.
Einen Stern Abzug gibt es für die sehr kurz gehaltene Übergabe mit unzureichend beantworteten Fragen, die tatsächlich notwendig gewesen wären. Den zweiten Stern ziehe ich ab wegen der doch etwas schmuddeligen, teils schmutzigen oder auch defekten Innenausstattung, trotz unserer nicht sehr hohen Reiseansprüche.
Ein kleines technisches Problem konnte mit Hilfe des Road assistance Service unkompliziert gelöst werden. Vielen Dank Lucky Rentals.

Maybe a different van would be better
The van I hired was ok to complete my trip but I wouldn’t recommend - the company, yes but not the van. I hired the Euro 3 and the van was clean enough but there was something left in the fridge (which was switched off) and it stunkkkk, I bought cleaning stuff because it smelt so bad and even after cleaning it the smell was always there. I got the van for the freedom of being self contained yet I was the told to be able to use the toilet overnight you have to take the whole bed apart, the video of the van on the website shows the toilet on rollers but apparently that’s just their smaller van (the company have recognised this and are updating it) but even being by myself that was annoying and considering you’re meant to be able to fit 3 people I cannot imagine how annoying it would be (in Kaikoura area I was actually told it doesn’t meet the self contained standards for that region so be careful as you could get slapped with a fine if you’re caught with a toilet you cannot use overnight while freedom camping), I ended up staying on campsites most of the time to have access to a toilet overnight which was a cost I did not expect to have. On note of the toilet, it leaked everywhere, multiple times, covered my bag and my shoes which I then had to pay to be cleaned. I was solo yet I was running out of water every couple of days, baring in mind I was staying on campsites so I was using their toilets and kitchen, I was only using the sink on the odd occasion but the pump is so powerful you end up wasting so much water. The battery in the key died which being solo wasn’t the best as you couldn’t lock the front doors once inside. There was just a lot of little things that were annoying but altogether made the trip some what unenjoyable. The staff during pick up and drop off were lovely though, but overall wouldn’t recommend the van, but maybe one of their other vans would be more suitable.

Pretty poor safety
Firstly it is worth writing there were lots of good things.
Lucky rover van was well equipped and good value, it was an older van so we had to drive it easy but that wasn’t a problem. You don’t need to push hard either so many epic view.
The problem was that the rear seats bottom cushion kept coming loose. We had kids in car seats that would not remain stable. One seatbelt completely came apart on the journey with my ten month olds car seat (On day 2). This was because it was not bolted in properly. A basic check before sending a van out!!!!
The speedo at times didn’t work at all and another time was reading 40kmh over, and another reading 10kmh under!
When I queried these it was up to me to sort with their roadside team with no real accountability from them.
The van had leaks in the roof and neither front or back wiper was up to scratch.
Note you only get around 7km/l from the lucky rover.

The shower was blocked
The shower was blocked, gas stove was not working, the door needs to be shut twice or more most of the time, the grey water pipe was dripping most of the time whenever we do any washing up and diffcult to shut. It was not the kinda campervan experience we anticipated, definitely won't recommend to anyone else.

Great experience
All in all we had a great experience. The vehicle drove well and the bed was as comfy as you would expect for a bed in a van. Enough room for the two of us. I wouldnt suggest an adult sleep up top unless they like confined spaces. The customer service team via email was fast in replying and efficient, which made everything really easy. We didnt use any of the equipment - water, cooker, waste or toilet, as these were available to us at the campsite but it was great that they were available. Would use them again
