Took only 5 days, on Sunday I listed the car for sale and on Friday got already picked up by happy new owner. Payment trough Carsales and everything worked like it should. Thanks

Extremely expensive for the service…
Extremely expensive for the service provided. Only 5 people contacted me and nothing serious. Nobody came to see my ute. Marketplace was free. Plenty of people contacted me. And finally found a buyer for it through them. I won’t ever recommend carsales because is too expensive.

Carsales is good way to sell a car privately
Carsales uses a lot of technology and provides advice to try to protect buyers and sellers. There is automation to assist in setting up the sale and to make the listing relatively easy. Secure payment is a good feature. It doesn't 100% block bad actors, but they do a fair bit.

The advertising fee in CarSales is exorbitant and unjustified. The fee structure is based solely on the vehicle's asking price, yet CarSales provided no actual support to help me sell, despite charging a premium rate. Ultimately, I was forced to pay this high fee even though the vehicle did not sell through your platform."

Audi Sydney inspected, said everything looked great, then strung me a long for a week telling me he was too busy to confirm the offer, but would do it in the next day. A week later nothing, and I ended up selling it myself for more money than the offer.

Sell on Facebook instead
I listed a 2015 Mazda 3 on carsales. Paid $138 to put the ad up. After 1 week I received 2 messages from wholesalers trying to low ball me, and 1 genuine buyer asking about when they could inspect the car (they never replied back to my message).
After 1 week of being on carsales I listed it on Facebook Marketplace. I received 12 genuine requests and 4 dealer requests within 2 days. I was fighting them off!
The only issue with Marketplace is that I had a lot of interest and had to regularly reply to messages with updates of what was happening.
Ended up selling it within 3 days.
What carsales does offer is a good market rate for the car (which I then used on marketplace) and I believe also offer a escrow payment service which would have been handy.
That being said, if your priority is to sell your car and you are happy to deal with many messages, then list on Marketplace for free instead!

First time seller. Good experience.
As a seller I found the site easy to use to set up the ad. I liked that I could keep my phone number private. Good education and reminders of potential scams. After sale, gave a check list of steps to take to dispose of car. Sold my car with the first buyer. The place to go if you want to sell your car.
