Pay by Carsales worked very well. It was easy to set up as a seller, and the payment upon the sale arrived almost instantaneously. The fact that I could see that the buyer had loaded their wallet with the money a couple of days before the planned handover date, gave me confidence that the buyer was genuine.

Modern way to sell a car and get paid securely
I sold a car through Carsales and used the pay through Carsales payment facility for the first time. My buyer also was new to this. By following the steps by step instructions it was pretty easy and allowed a large payment to be moved securely between us. There were no fees. Compared to meeting a person with cash or bank cheque this process is secure and easy to follow.

Got an instant offer, took the car to be checked over and boom offer honoured. Yes I might have got more doing the sale myself, but this was a lot less trouble, and it couldn’t have been easier. Buying my new car was in fact harder. My car was low kilometres and not old, So I had that on my side

Carsales was an absolute waste of time…
Carsales was an absolute waste of time and money. We paid a minimum of $300 to advertise our car and received absolutely no meaningful interest from genuine private buyers. The only offers we received were from dealers trying to lowball us.
For a platform that charges such a high fee, you would expect some decent exposure and genuine enquiries. Instead, we paid $300 and got virtually no traction whatsoever. It is incredibly frustrating to spend that kind of money only to be left wondering what you actually paid for.
Honestly, based on our experience, I would not recommend Carsales to anyone trying to sell their car privately. Save your money and list it on Facebook Marketplace instead. We found the whole experience disappointing, expensive and not worth the effort.
My advice: don’t waste your money on Carsales. Try Marketplace first.

Great system to avoid scams
Great system to avoid the scam where the buyer pays by direct deposit, then "challenges the transaction" with their bank...which then claws back the payment as a first step, leaving the seller to chase their money. Easy to use on the app.

A complete waste of almost $500. Much more interest on Facebook marketplace and that is where the buyer came from. Contacted Carsales, they said price was too high that is why I got no interest there I would have to drop the price, yet the buyer wanted to pay asking price.
