Travelling through the history of my family has been a very rewarding experience. The provided hints are great and make it so much easier to find difficult records. In travelling back through both my parents and grandparents I have found convicts and a lead, though distant, to Royalty. And some very interesting characters, some good some bad but then that is what life is all about and it makes us who we are today.

I like receiving updates and info as I have about 2,600 people in my family. Thank you

I'm pleased with what I found but there are many, many errors in ancestry and it is hard to challenge the exponentially increasing number of errors I see.
So, while Ancestry is great and my preferred research tool, I take most things I read with a grain of salt.
I also wish there was some consistency in the pricing. Not sure I am getting the value for money i need.

They are not identifying my son on DNA. They say my daughter is his full sister .they say she is my full daughter but do not identify my son as a full son. It does not make sense. I have spoken a few times and am told it will be esculated up the chain, but no-one has ever contacted me about tyhe problem Have to use Ancestry as I tested with them but I am discusted that they do nothing about sorting the problem.

I am a little bit hooked - I must admit. I have been growing my family tree on Ancestry.com.au for close to 15 years and most recently, added features are providing tips and suggestions that are making the discovery process so much easier and rewarding. I have discovered a very interesting ancestor - Dr. Robert Huicke, who was a doctor attending King Henry VIII and Queen Catherine Parr; King Edward IV and Queen Elizabeth I. I am a history teacher and have always had a firm interest in the Tudors. To have a family member who was actually at the heart of the Tudor court is a bit of a thrill!!

I have learnt so much about my ancestors, but there is so much more to learn.
At times I can almost imagine I am there with them, learning their way of life, the hardships and the good times.

It was great being able to confirm DNA connections, and finding those little gaps where things didn't work out immediately but needed to be further investigated. We managed to open a can of worms with my great great grandfather who's father was an unknown mystery to us. Even though he is so many generations back, we have pretty well been able to work out who his father most likely was. That is the great part of Ancestry, as well as being able to put your tree in with a really usable app, and being able to find sources in a really usable way. The down sides, firstly is the lack of response that you get from the majority of your DNA matches; you'd think that if people were using Ancestry that they'd be interested in research into our joint families, but it often isn't the case. Secondly, the cost is prohibitive for most of us, despite frequent offers of discounts. The available tools on Ancestry are really great, and there are a number of great YouTube channels that go into a lot of great details with tips on how to get the most out of the avaliable tools. I particularly love being able to sort my DNA matches into groups, and the pro tool feature of clustering which can help isolate matches to particular shared ancestors. Getting the DNA tests done was a really easy straight-forward process, and we appreciated being able to choose levels of privacy.

My Ancestry journey began with transferring my tree from a PC based system. The on-line system is so much better for documenting sources, an essential part of good genealogy.

My database on Ancestry now includes about 15,000 persons. I have been a Pro user since this feature was introduced and It is very powerful for working out likely relationships from DNA matches and for error checking.

I find the software reliable and it does what is says it will do, however it is dependant on the data accuracy and information entered by users (including me) is not always correct.

I'm frustrated and give Ancestry an epic FAIL for not managing the unlinked trees resource.

Background: Am a member of a 43 DNA cousin pool residing in several countries who kindly share their family trees/DNA results with me. Total matches
> 1 million.

My current matches are 33,000 plus 3 brothers 57,000 = Total 90,000
Today my unlinked trees total 7,732 which is 23% of my matches. Only 548 matches are colour coded for preservation with a yellow star. The star Indicates I have either viewed the person or they need checking because they are shared with another DNA cousin pool member.

For the Ancestry tool ThruLines to do most of the hard work for you, both your DNA test and your DNA matches' tests must be explicitly linked to a family tree.

It is a rare occasion when you contact an Ancestry member to ask if they'll link their DNA test to a tree that they actually do it. I always provide the current Ancestry support article.

Best result for me has been suggesting a second option asking them if they are willing/comfortable to provide their living parents and grandparents names, year and birth place if known. At least the information then is recorded for next generation users.

Ancestry is always the first place I go when looking for information about a person, even someone I have researched many times because of the continual updates. I have been with Ancestry for about 20 years and friends come to me for help using it.
DNA is a bit tricky due to some matches not adding their own family trees. But I look every day hoping to find a mystery father in law.

There have been many rumours about a branch of my husbands family , mainly due to the recorded surname being spelt in a multitude of different ways , starting with any letter from c, k or g, and being unlike any other surname. This led some existing family members to assume that the name was indigenous Australian. However, through dna testing and close scrutiny of shipping, death and other records, the family has proved to be German. It has been a long slow process but one needs to be persistent across years. New records are always surfacing. I am yet to convince all family members (some of whom are enjoying the false benefits of their imagined ancestry), but at least we have found the truth with the help of ancestry and ancestry dna. Knowing your true heritage is a gift.

I have been using Ancestry almost daily for 20 years and would not have extended my tree so far without it. I most enjoy accessing scanned documents from centuries past, seeing something written 300 years ago on my computer is amazing. My biggest complaint is the quality of some transcriptions. Church registers can be hard to read but some transcribers have been hopelessly incompetent. There is no excuse for the Australian Electoral Rolls to be so bad as they are all printed. Only some years are really bad.
Ancestry is a great tool used in conjunction with BDM records, wills and probate or anything that confirms your research. Hints can be helpful but common names can cause confusion so confirm with other records before adding to your tree. So many public trees have errors through just adding hints without checking but they are always worth looking at as they might have a record that I have missed.

I started using Ancestry about 10 years ago and then stopped due to life commitments. I had time to start again late 2025 and did the DNA test. I have learned so much about DNA and matching (still a lot to learn) through Ancestry's Education section. ProTools matches of matches has allowed me to break down brick walls and find stories that have been fantastic to find.
I have used ProTools to remove duplicates and find poorly sourced ancestors which has improved the quality of the research that I do.
Being able to add media to the Gallery and create sources to be able to find where you found that media again has added more depth to the profiles of my ancestors and improved the tracabilty of my research. The transcription feature in the Gallery is excellent for newspaper snips.
With the Legacy feature I feel comfortable knowing that the research I have done will stay with my family.

I come from a large diverse family where my Mum was a Canadian war bride and Dad from Nth Qld. Only now, after having my DNA done a couple of years ago and checking all matching notifications, I've discovered a cousin from my Canadian side living half an hour away.
I initially just followed my direct line to find out where I came from, but it's now that I'm following other parts of the family and the families of a couple of my siblings, I now have proof it's a very, very small world where families have intertwined over the generations.
I've uncovered a couple of minor scandals that were never spoken about but influenced some of the decisions made by my forebears. The tales of a castle in my paternal side have proved true after scoffing about them all my life and been so frustrated when I haven't been able to find parents for an adopted cousin.
I've been able to tell my sister-in-law that her step grandfather really was a war hero after being interred in Changi after being captured in Singapore, spying while driving in a Transport Company, and his work in Japan after the war. I've been frustrated by not being about to find his records though, as they are still sealed.
Following all the ships my family travelled on coming to Australia has been a fantastic voyage of discovery in itself.
My German forebears have given me an insight into the history of Samoa as well as Prussia as it was then and learnt the reason behind the castle tale.
I've now researched the history of Queensland's old mining towns and the unbelievably bad conditions women lived in, following their husbands around, trying to find a fortune, or in most cases, just surviving.
From knowing a handful of cousins from North Queensland I've been able to trace and contact newly found cousins in other parts of Australia, and one in the UK, although these without the help of DNA.
While I have parts of my family back to the 1100s from a document found in a thesis, I still have to find the missing links to the 1400s.
My husband's Scottish ancestors have defeated me for the moment with several generations of the same name being used throughout.
Using Ancestry printouts and using AI to find conditions in towns at specific dates, I've completed the first 4 of many booklets for my many siblings and their families, and there's nothing like finding a famous footballer in the family we didn't know about, to get the many grandchildren in the family interested in genealogy.

Ability to search through so many collections and to link with others reseaching in the same areas

We always did not know much about relatives, but since doing a DNA test with Ancestry . It has opened a flood gate of ancestors and present relatives.
In particular that i am a Plantagenet/Tudor of royal lineage.My 15th Great Grand mother on my grand mother's side was Queen Mary Tudor Rose and my 15 th Great Uncle was King Henry VIII.Also a strong connection to the royal houses of Europe and Scotland.The reveals keep coming and coming.
We are also related to the Wedgwood family as well as Captain Myles Standish of the Mayflower.
As well to Princess Diana her sharing a common great grand father with us.

I have been searching for my grandfathers parents for over 30 years. I still haven't found them but through Ancestry I have discovered a broad list of family members all related to my grandfather who was found wandering Waterloo Road, London in 1892 at age 3 and taken the Lambeth Workhouse by a policeman. He was given his name by the School Committee.

Ancestry has a large population of subscribers from around the world making it extremely likely that you will be able to identify many of your relatives through the broad range of tools that are available.
