An insane wait time
An insane wait time. I dropped my kit off on May 13, it’s now July 24 and I’m STILL waiting. Customer service is of no help either, their AI chatbot keeps telling my results are ready but they clearly are not as CS keeps telling me to just wait. We had other kits sent off the same time and they’ve received theirs a week/two ago. I wish I went with 23andMe instead!

It's completely normal for kits mailed together to finish at different times because our lab individually sorts and scans each kit into separate processing batches. Ancestry has been a great source of information for us to be able to trace our family background and history. Plus have been asked to help some other family members also doing history on both sides and have had help from others filling in the gaps I have needed of my Husbands and my own Family.

Ancestry is a fantastic family program.
Ancestry has been fantastic helping to trace back many centuries with my family lines, and find out facts unknown before going back in time.
I'd recommend Ancestry to learn more about your family history, it's addictive, you start looking for an hour, and before you know it several hours have passed, all in a good way.
And I've written a book with all the information I've learned to leave for my future generations.

The last update was in my opinion useless in so far as it made the layout harder to get around in Ancestry, and slowed everything down. This therefore makes it harder to work out who you are talking about and whether or not it is a relation. NOT GOOD Ancestry

My brother and I were tested at the…
My brother and I were tested at the same time. Result showed no match. Fair enough, we may both be adopted. Yet result showed we both share the same 1st niece. Ok, so if that's the case.....we MUST be related?
Also showed his daughter is my 1st niece, but hang on....she is no match to him. So, she isn't his daughter, but somehow miraculously related to me?
Extremely disappointed. When I contacted them they suggested we both cancel our subscription and pay for another??? And said they offered a "suggested match". In other words, their testing expertise is sub-standard. Their test results could potentially destroy families.

To clarify an important point right away, your DNA matches are generated entirely from the laboratory analysis of the saliva samples. They are completely independent of whether you have an active paid subscription, and canceling a subscription will not alter your biological matches or require you to purchase a new kit.
When results and match lists appear unexpected or complex, there can be a variety of factors at play behind the scenes. For general information on navigating surprising results, you can also review our guide here:

We also strongly recommend contacting our specialized support team by phone so we can safely investigate this with you. I have been using Ancestry for a few years and have been able to trace and find so many relatives I didn't know about. It takes time and some work but the results are very good. The hints and research that happens in the background are excellent.

Ancestry and the world of Magic
Ancestry - a great source of information about families leading to the discovery of relatives I didn't know I had and surprisingly, and disappointingly, discovering that they lived nearby - after I had left. However, through Ancestry I have learned about family members located all over the world and have contacted some I never knew existed. Magic.

Promotional advertising is misleading…
Promotional advertising is misleading and deceptive. I bought a DNA kit as a gift which included a three month World Heritage membership. The DNA sample was completed and posted the next day and it took three months for the results to come through. At this point the membership had expired and could not be accessed.
The final piece of the puzzle could not be completed as the membership had timed out.
I'd contacted Ancestry and they were no help at all. They recommended that I renew the membership by paying the expensive fee to gain access.
I will be going to a competitor for my next DNA gift purchase

For many researchers, diving straight into the historical records and building out a family tree during those first few weeks is a great way to get a head start. By the time the DNA results finally clear the lab, they act as the final piece of the puzzle to confirm the paper trail they've already built.
However, we also recognize that everyone's research style is different, and some users buy the bundle specifically intending to use the records to investigate their new DNA matches. Your perspective is incredibly helpful as we look at how to better explain these timelines so members can plan their research strategy and get the absolute most value out of their membership window.

I love research on Ancestry. I enjoy the layout and the wealth of information. I get frustrated that the amount I pay monthly, which I consider to be generous, does not access me to records that are sometimes shown to me.

Because certain premium record collections (such as international records or specialized historical archives) require different membership levels, those hints will still occasionally appear on your tree. We truly appreciate your feedback about how this impacts your research experience, and we will share your thoughts with our product team.
Failure to refund
I purchased 2 x dna kits for my elderly parents and set-up two separate accounts for them (aged over 84yrs).
My father's dna tests kept failing so after 6 failed attempts, we finally requested a refund. Ancestry were unable to provide a refund because it had been over a year. It took just over a year for 6 failed attempts which has been very disappointing and put immense stress on my elderly parent. For a big organisation like this you would hope they had better systems and processes to handle failed dna tests. But alas, NO!

I like Ancestry
I like Ancestry. It is my go to for storing my tree and general questions as they arise. I also really like that they are constantly finding little pieces of information that I can check and add to my family tree, like a jigsaw puzzle.
