Aer Lingus horror show
Hard to start or even explain how abject this company is. I'll start with a few positives but my goodness are the negatives absolutely staggering.
Positives...the initial booking process. The odd friendly staff member we came across at bhx and jfk. As at Dublin there were few and afr between.
Negatives...my goodness where do I start.
The app is poor. Luggage details disappeared off the app not showing any entitlement. We spoke to an agent who had us believe we had no checked baggage so spent £130 for the privilege.
Only to later find we had a 23kg per person entitlement.
Called aer lingus back and were ttold no refund even after explaining. The issue had to be pushed to eventually get a refund....very poor.
Ps this took about a week btw
Onto the flight arrived at birmingham airport where check in was painfully slow. Website claims you can check in 3 hrs beforehand but staff actually arrived around 2 hrs while a queue snaked away.
People coming from the back of the queue to ask staff if they would be OK!!
Onto the flight all was well so we thought until we arrived in John F Kennedy.
Waited at the carousel to be told by a staff member that your luggage was still in Dublin (ie 2 of our 3 cases)
Arrived at the hotel with no clothes for myself and my luggage arrived at 2000 the following day.
My sons luggage arrived 3 days later !!
In the interim we spoke to many aer lingus staff about our luggage all of whom gave poor quality and unreliable information!!!
Trip was completely soured by day 3....could it get any worse?
Well on the return the flight was delayed 3 hours so missed connection at Dublin.
Original 630am flight became 1850 dep.
Spoke to many staff at Dublin and my goodness were they obtuse cold and unhelpful!!!
For my own sanity I'll never travel with Aer Lingus again...they have stooped and my god were they close to the ground.
A horrendous experience that was capped off by poor communication from a member of their executive team who lacked any autonomy. Will not give her name outright as the issue seems to be companywide?
AVOID
Ps I have missed many issues as the horror show was beyond comprehension
Der letzte Laden. Vorsicht
Mein Flug von Frankfurt nach Dublin Flug-Nr. EI651
Also muss man in Dublin klagen.
Was das kostet steht in keinem Verhältniss zum Schaden.
Also.
Aer Lingus nie wieder
Terrible rude staff and service
Terrible rude and unhelpful staff at check in at Dublin Airport.
My family were travelling to koh samui from Dublin. Despite my autistic son displaying an important flyer lanyard , the check in rude girl would not facilitate sitting him with a family member and dotted up all around the aircraft for the London to Singapore leg of our flight 13 hours.
I had to speak to the crew once on board to fix this. Also she said our luggage could not be sent to our destination directly and id have to collect it at Singapore then recheck it in. The staff at Singapore had never heard of this before. On the return trip when I was checked in by Bangkok Airlines we sat together for every leg of the trip and our luggage was sent straight through to Dublin no problem.
The staff member in Dublin at my departure was exceptionally rude and had no interest in listening thst my son could not sit on his own. She was also very arrogant and abrupt.. ..
I asked to speak with a supervisor only to be told ...what difference will thst make . Terrible se4vice all round. Zero stars would be too many

0 stars. Flight was cancelled on the 5th of July after a series of delays . i originally paid the flight price + 70 euros to change dates. after nearly 1 month of back to back complaints, i only received 30 euros back . they claimed the full refund was processed, but clearly not to me. if your flight gets cancelled, good luck , that’s the message i wanted to share
Did not let us drop baggage
We were flying for the first time with Aer Lingus, and were optimistic as they are a partner with BA, with whom we enjoy flying.
We arrived a bit later than we wanted due to traffic around the airport (don't take a bus to the airport), but within the 45-minute baggage-drop-closure time. Our flight was at 11:05, we arrived 10:03. They would not let us drop our bags off because they would not make the flight: the app and the website guidelines say that you can drop-off your bags 45 minutes before your flight time.
I showed the guidelines to a member of Aer Lingus staff, he looked at me, nodded, said "that's too bad", and the went to take care of something. We called, and the poor fellow who answered could hardly understand English, and was completely unable to help me. We made claims with both our travel agency and through the website, and have repeatedly gotten requests for the same information. When the call centre does answer, it is with folks who have a hard time understanding English and who seem powerless to help.
Overall, I would avoid this airline like the plague, similar to Ryan Air. If you're going to go somewhere, pay more to a company which will keep their own guidelines.
No Written Communication Channels and No Follow-Up on Complaints
My 12-year-old son was travelling with a group of students on a study trip. On the return flight from Berlin to Rome, his suitcase arrived severely damaged.
It was not possible to file a damage report at the airport. The students were travelling as part of a large group, and submitting the claim there would have delayed dozens of children and supervisors. We were reassured that the claim could be submitted online within 7 days of the flight.
However, when we tried to do so, the online claim form simply did not work. We then contacted Air Lingus customer service four separate times, starting on July 22, asking for assistance and requesting that a claim be opened by phone. Despite these repeated calls, we have still not received any response from the claim office or follow-up regarding our complaint.
What makes the situation even more frustrating is the complete lack of alternative communication channels. There is no customer service email address where a written complaint can be sent, nor is there a dedicated legal or formal complaints email address for customers who need to escalate an issue.
This level of customer service is unacceptable. We expected much better from a national airline, especially one that is certainly not positioned as a low-cost carrier. Instead, we have been left with a damaged suitcase, a non-functioning claims process, and no meaningful support from the company.
Very disappointing experience.
An EXTREMELY Horrible Experience
An EXTREMELY Horrible Experience. They LOST 3 pieces of my family members luggage for more than 3 days. They kept telling us that they Couldn’t Locate the Luggage's. They had a Nonchalant to Dismissive attitude on the phone !!!!
RIP Off Airline
Recently booked a flight to Southampton. Got price for ticket. Then it started. To sit on a seat an extra €13.99 per person each way. If you want to carry your own bag and place it in the overhead locker an additional €12.99 per person each way. Last time I looked there wasn’t standing room on any aircraft so why do you have to pay extra to sit in the aircraft? If you choose to carry your own bag and stow it in the overhead locker, they are charging you. I think the Director of Consumer Affairs should investigate this company. People complain about Ryanair. Given a choice I would pick Ryanair over Aer Lingus any day of the week. Terrible company unfortunately only airline that flies to Southampton so they have a captive audience 😡😡😡
Christina. Thank you!
Brought the wrong baggage home and the process was extremely smooth getting it back. Massive thanks to Christina, displayed exemplary customer servicre
Worst travel experience...
I have been travelling annually for over 12 years between Hong Kong, the US and the UK. I have never had an experience as bad as travelling with Aer Lingus this summer.
I have never flown Lingus before and the issues began as far back as when booking our flights. Flying from Philadelphia to Manchester, my wife and I originally wanted to book the flight that transferred in Dublin. However, the website would not let either of us book anything from Hong Kong. In hindsight I realise this was the universe telling us not to bother and I wish I'd listened.
We booked an Air Canada flight, transferring in Toronto but, due to the wildfires, this was rebooked (without our consent) onto the Aer Lingus PHI>DUB>MAN flight. As previously stated, we preferred that flight so were quite happy initially. But little did we know.
The first flight was due to leave on the 18th at 20:25 and get us to Manchester for 11am the next day. However, after boarding late we sat on the runway for hours before being told we had to return to the gate. There were mixed messages as to why this was. The pilot said it was due to weather, other staff mentioned missing a flight window. But the loudest message came from the stewards themselves who, when asked by a number of panicked passengers at risk of missing their connections, responded with a very unhelpful "well you must think of us poor workers too, we also dont know where we're going to stay tonight." On a human level, sure, they're in the same boat as the passengers. However, from a service point of view, that seemed unprofessional and unhelpful in equal measure.
Unprofessional was then what we experienced every step of the next 40 hours as Aer Lingus dropped ball after ball.
After disembarking the plane, staff decided to line people up at the boarding gate to give the same message to each individual group. This was essentially "leave an email address and we'll contact you". Why they couldn't have given that message to everyone at once, who knows. We were told by AL staff there were no hotels available so we went to collect our bags and had to find our own hotel for the night (ending up in Delaware). This was all at 2am, with a 7 year old child. It turns out that there was a hotel put in for some passengers but Im not sure how they found this out.
The next flight (a 'recovery' flight) was put on for the next day at 10pm. This too was delayed boarding, which means many of us were left fearing missing our dublin connections. One poor lass had a panic attack at the gate due to this. To top it off, once we had finally boarded, the stewards had the nerve to ask for a round of applause from passengers for the staff that "helped get us in the air".
My wife had already put in a claim to the customer service at Aer Lingus for the hotel room and that was a terrible experience in itself, but the AL staff at PHI told us this could be done in person when we got to Dublin. When we did arrive in Dublin (yes, we'd missed our connecting flight) they (the AL flight connections desk) told us any compensation claims had to be done online and that AL staff in PHI weren't really AL staff and just "carriers" which had zero relevance to us and seemed like a weak way of passing the buck. The attitudes of the girls on that desk was atrocious too. Arrogant, flippant and more interested in the snacks they had brought in than dealing with customers who were already delayed and being delayed further more.
We finally arrived in Manchester over 40 hours after our due time to find that our bags had not followed us. Global baggage solutions in Manchester told us thay Aer Lingus knowingly put our bags on a later flight due to weight limits, even though this was not mentioned at any time to us.
Our plans were already ruined as we were supposed to be driving straight up to the lake district for a family gathering, but now we had no luggage, no easy address to deliver them to and, even better, had lost our car hire booking that resulted in us having to pay almost 2000GBP (yes, thousand) for a suitable car that would take us where we needed to go.
Aer lingus assured us that the bags would be with us by 8am the next morning. They arrived at about 4pm. We have now entered 3 separate customer service cases for reimbursement of costs and we have still had zero reply.
I can only imagine this company is going out of business soon as they obviously don't have the resources, capacity or decency to operate in a way that is sustainable. We will never fly lingus again, and will tell as many people as possible about our experience.
This morning I was using customer…
This morning I was using customer service uk and was put through to Call Centre in Bulgaria. Beautiful lady excellent service her name was Valera and she helped me book my young children online as there under 12. Excellent service and experience. Please make sure she is told this 🙏
Worst customer service
I booked a flight to Ireland for my brother's wedding celebration. Sadly my child became sick and was admitted to the pediatric ICU a few days prior to the trip so I was unable to go. Aer Lingus's customer service made this a living hell. I had upgraded to business class with over 90,000 Avios along with the $740 I initially paid to book the economy flight round trip from Denver to Dublin. The hospital provided me a letter stating the circumstances which was sent to Aer Lingus. Aer Lingus gave me a voucher for about $740 and nothing else. They then proceeded a recent announcement that they will not operate flights from Denver to Dublin anymore. I will be unable to use the voucher. I contacted Aer Lingus again to see if they could do anything and they refused and closed my case. This company has no humanity whatsoever. I highly encourage everyone to avoid this air line.
They don’t care about lost/mishandled baggage
Flew business class Liverpool to Chicago via Dublin but they didn’t send my bag on the same plane in Dublin. It was subsequently delivered to O’Hare but not to me. After 3 days of futile emails and phone calls I ended up going to O’Hare to collect it myself as I was leaving Chicago the following day. Subsequent attempts to complain met with silence, lack of response, brick walls and ultimately a ‘form’ email that didn’t do anything to answer my complaint/questions asked. Claims about managing lost baggage on their website are just lies, their system isn’t set up to deliver on the promises. Presume once they have your money they cease caring about the customer experience/service they deliver. Even before I flew out they’d changed times of 2 flights (making them less confident for me) and cancelled one. Never again.
Worst airline to date been 24 hour…
Worst airline to date been 24 hour delayed for a flight to Belfast from Birmingham. joke
Definitely not recommended!
Definitely not recommended!
The worst customer service ever. Have my baggage delayed for 4 days, just to arrive later zip broken, baggage opened and missing items. They don’t want to compensate though!!!! I am not even sure if their agents are qualified to deal with customers!
I would never recommend the airline. There are much better airlines one could use and be treated in a respectful manner!
Disturbing and anxiety producing
The most disturbing and anxiety, stress inducing trip I have EVER taken. Customer service? Rude, disrespectful and completely unprofessional. I missed a connecting flight due to a booking error on their part, was forced to spend 24 hours by myself overnight in dirty JFK airport without having been offered a hotel stay- no sleep, no food, homeless people sleeping in the chairs and picking out of garbage cans. The aer lingus representative who answered my phone call at 9:30 pm (when I was trying a last ditch effort to get a boarding pass and get on the connecting flight) -who said he was a MANAGER- offered me another flight for $3000+! I had aleady paid $1200 months earlier for this trip. When I asked him why and said that I do not have that kind of money, he told me that maybe I should just "save my money then and go back to Denver". He then said that "clearly I can't help you and I am disconnecting this call", and hung up on me. All of this while I was bawling my eyes out and begging for assistance. The next night at 10pm I was finally granted a flight out and had to pay an additional $200 for "baggage related expenses." My baggage, btw, NEVER made it to Ireland. It got shipped back to my house a week later in Denver- BROKEN.
After months of correspondence with customer service to attempt to recover my various losses and complaints, I have been met with "we are sorry for your inconvenience, but cannot help you". And one representative went so far as to tell me that my phone call with the "manager" I spoke with that night was made up by me and did not align with their information. Disguting and traumatic emotional abuse with no compassion for my experience, no accountability for their errors that caused it, and absolutely no resolution.
I would rather them No stars as I…
I would rather them No stars as I believe they are not interested in resolving customers complaints. My outward and return flight were delayed, baggage lost, returned 4 days later and dumped outside my house in the rain, shitty abusive attitude from the handler. I complained and submitted all the forms, receipts etc etc and eventually after 6 weeks back and forth, customer service or Lack of Customer Services and denied my small claim for food and toiletries as they claim my receipt is not itemized !
I really expected more from Air Lingus and this definitely cements my opinion that I will not fly with them again.
The worst airline experience we've ever…
The worst airline experience we've ever had.
Our journey with Aer Lingus was a catalogue of poor organisation, poor communication and poor customer service from start to finish.
We arrived three hours before our flight, only to be turned away from check-in. When we returned there was just one desk checking in around four flights while bag drop passengers were continually prioritised, despite many of us being unable to check in online due to Aer Lingus' own system issues. The queue became so frustrating that passengers actually applauded whenever someone was finally called forward.
When we eventually reached the desk, the customer service was shocking. We weren't greeted, offered an apology or even treated with basic courtesy. Instead, I was sarcastically asked, "You seem shirty, what's wrong?" After calmly explaining how stressful the experience had been, I was met with, "So you want to take it out on me?" The interaction became so uncomfortable that I walked away and left my partner to finish checking in.
Things only got worse. We were rushed to the gate by a "final call" announcement only to discover boarding hadn't even started. Before boarding we were unexpectedly pulled aside, photographed, had our details recorded and our autistic son was asked to face a CCTV camera. No explanation was given. As a same-sex family travelling with our son, this left us feeling extremely uncomfortable and caused him significant distress.
After landing in Dublin we received a text saying our connecting flight had been moved until the following day. No guidance was provided by cabin crew and, at the connections desk, there was no apology or empathy—just a hotel voucher. We were then forced to sit and watch the aircraft we were supposed to be on depart before later being told, "You missed your connection." We didn't miss it—Aer Lingus failed to get us onto it.
From there we had to ask every question ourselves about accommodation, transport and meals. Our luggage disappeared, leading to yet another lengthy queue with just one member of staff. Other passengers received information packs explaining what would happen next—we received nothing.
To make matters worse, the hotel had no family room available, meaning our autistic 13-year-old son either had to sleep alone or share a bed with one of his adoptive fathers. Thankfully the hotel staff were wonderful, but this added yet more stress to an already exhausting day.
I understand delays happen. What I cannot accept is the complete lack of communication, organisation, professionalism and empathy shown throughout the entire journey. We lost the first night of our holiday, incurred additional costs and watched our son become increasingly distressed because of the way the situation was handled.
This wasn't simply about a delayed flight—it was about consistently poor customer service at every stage. Aer Lingus has a lot of work to do if this is the standard passengers can expect.
Flug Stornierung
Delayed Luggage
Plane arrived late so we boarded late. Then get on plane and pilot says it will take an hour longer than usual. We miss our connecting flight. When we arrive in Dublin we are told we can get on next flight to Paris that is currently boarding. I asked if our luggage will have time to get on this next flight. I was assured it would. It didn't!!! We arrive in Paris on vacation with no luggage. Paris wasn't our final destination. We drive to our destination. That evening our luggage arrives in Paris but we are hours away. The airline gives out luggage to the Post Office. They do not want to deliver bc the parcels are too big and we are too far away. We have been on vacation for 6 days with no luggage. But we were supposed to leave here 2 days ago for the beach. Can't leave without our luggage. According to Aer Lingus we received our luggage the day they handed them to the Post Office. If they hadn't been so cheap and had paid for a different carrier I'd have my luggage. And I'm told no compensation will be probided. Never flying Aer Lingus again!
