Although a flight today had been…
Although a flight today had been 'cashed in' for a voucher in February, Aer Lingus is now sending me check in and boarding notifications for the flight I won't be on. I hope they are not going to rescind the vouchers my cancellation produced - that would be typical! It's impossible to make contact with Aer Lingus in a quick, easy way to check, of course.
Pretty bloody poor
Late take off. Terrible AC. Was so hot and airless in the cabin. Insisted my backpack was oversized and checked it into the hold and then made me wait for 2 hours for it. Luckily had an AirTag in it otherwise would never have found it. Saw it just waiting on the runway all that time.
@Aer Lingus — can someone please explain how this is acceptable?**
✈️ **@Aer Lingus — can someone please explain how this is acceptable?**
We had a **£200 Aer Lingus voucher** which we tried to use towards booking a flight. When the voucher wouldn’t work, we contacted Aer Lingus and spoke to an operator who specifically instructed us to **book the flights anyway and that Aer Lingus would refund the £200 difference afterwards.**
We followed their instructions.
Instead, Aer Lingus **cancelled our flight and issued us a further £600 in vouchers** — leaving us with **£800 in Aer Lingus vouchers that we never asked for and do not want.**
Because our original booking was cancelled, we then had to book alternative flights, which cost us **more money**.
That was over **two months ago**.
Since then, we have spent countless hours emailing and calling Aer Lingus trying to get this resolved. We have repeatedly explained what happened, yet **nothing has been done**. We are still out of pocket, and Aer Lingus continues to leave us holding £800 in vouchers instead of simply resolving the mistake made by their own customer service team.
We did exactly what your representative told us to do. We should not be financially penalised because Aer Lingus failed to process its own voucher correctly.
**Two months of emails and phone calls with no resolution is completely unacceptable.**
We don't want £800 in vouchers. We want the money we are actually owed and reimbursement for the additional costs we incurred as a direct result of our booking being cancelled.
@AerLingus — please sort this out.
Paid for Extra Legroom but Given an Unusable Seat After Aer Lingus Gave Me Incorrect Information
Below is my letter of complaint regarding seating allocation on my recent trip from the UK to Nashville, USA. In addition to the below complaint having made many transatlantic flights with other airlines I thought to type of aircraft used for this trip was totally the wrong type. Due to the location of business class the only accessible toilets were at the rear of the aircraft and the aisle down the middle of the aircraft was way too narrow
Dear Aer Lingus Customer Relations,
I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding the seat allocation on my recent journey from Manchester to Nashville via Dublin.
I paid an additional £25 for an extra-legroom seat, and before travelling I specifically contacted the Aer Lingus office by telephone to confirm that the extra-legroom seating I had purchased would apply to both sectors of my journey – Manchester to Dublin and Dublin to Nashville.
I was advised that this was the case. However, I was told that, because of the different aircraft configuration on the Dublin to Nashville flight, my seat would be in Row 13 rather than Row 14, which was the row allocated on the Manchester to Dublin flight. I accepted this information on the understanding that I would still be receiving the extra-legroom seating that I had paid for.
Unfortunately, this information turned out to be incorrect.
On the Dublin to Nashville flight, Row 13 was, in my opinion, one of the worst possible rows to have been allocated. The seat could not be reclined because of the emergency exit immediately behind it. This meant that, despite paying for extra-legroom seating, I was left with a seat that provided a significantly inferior level of comfort for a transatlantic flight.
This was particularly disappointing because I have various orthopaedic problems affecting my leg and back. I specifically paid for the additional legroom to make the journey more comfortable and manageable, and I took the trouble to contact Aer Lingus in advance to ensure that the seating arrangements would meet my needs.
I would also question the value of paying £25 for extra legroom on the Manchester to Dublin sector, which is only a relatively short flight, if the benefit I was purchasing was not properly provided on the much longer Dublin to Nashville sector.
Had I been correctly informed before travelling that Row 13 was a non-reclining seat and that the seating arrangement would not provide the benefit I had understood I was paying for, I would certainly have reconsidered the purchase or asked for an alternative arrangement.
I therefore feel that Aer Lingus should provide an explanation as to why I was given incorrect information when I specifically contacted your office before travelling, and I would like you to consider a refund of the £25 extra-legroom charge, or appropriate compensation, given that the service I paid for was not provided as represented.
I look forward to receiving your response and hope that Aer Lingus will take responsibility for the incorrect information provided to me and the resulting inconvenience and discomfort during my journey.
Yours faithfully,
Would give a 0 if I could.
Would give a 0 if I could.
Delayed our flight so missed connecting flight.
Changed our seats onto connecting flight so we had paid to all 3 to be together with an 11 year old now all split up.
"Help desk" at Dublin had the rudest, most aggressive staff i have ever dealt with - even being effectively threatened with being bumped from flight as all flights were "oversold" - how do you oversell a flight it is a max amount of assigned seats.....
We were told if didnt like it we could leave and go to outside desk and maybe get another flight if we were lucky at ticketing - all this after a 7hr delay due to their issues. No apologies just aggression and rubbish service.
Never - and I repeat never - use AER Lingus if can avoid.
The low 1 star rating for this airline is more than justified
Update. Meant to have had 25euros each food voucher. Went to Starbucks loaded up on what wanted. They had not loaded it.
Honestly the worst airline i have ever dealt with. I will never fly them again. I will tell everyone not to fly them. They are awful.and deserve to go under.
Just read the reviews! Notice how they don't seem to reply to any, Why ?
After 7 weeks, not 2 as we were told by Aerlingus! we got a result, because i had booked non refundable tickets, we were not entitled to a refund, or vouchers, as we thought they might see fit to offer, fair enough, this was my fault for booking the cheapest tickets, however, the law should protect customers and ban non refundable purchases, our money is just as good regardless of which level we pay for, also this chaotic company could have told us this in an instant, rather than messing us about, they did pay us back the tax on the tickets and deducted £48 for their trouble, what a shower, the customer service in Aer Lingus, brings shame on their 'very' good cabin and ground staff and leaves them to face unhappy customers, what a careless organization, they may know a thing or two about flying around the world, but they don't deserve any awards for customer service, in my opinion! besides, the awards come from within the industry and not customers, i believe no-one in the industry will be honest about the companies who ultimately pay their wages! therefore Aer Lingus may be well over rated! Why doesn't someone answer the criticism?
Avoid! They overbook flights.
Absolutely shocking service from Aer Lingus, I would rate a zero if possible. In June I was denied boarding my Glasgow to Dublin flight as THEY overbooked the flight. They did not ask the passengers if anyone was willing to change to another flight, they denied me boarding as ‘I was the last to check in online’ even though I checked in during the allocated time frame. They could not offer me a flight until 12 hours later as they had overbooked the following two flights!! I still have not received my full compensation and they have closed my case which makes it extremely hard to contact them. I will avoid Aer Lingus at all costs, they do not consider their passengers at all. Very disappointing.
Easy to order
Easy to order, friendly service, newer planes. No complaints. Ordering process and app were good.
Quite possibly the worst customer service ever
3 hour delay in Dublin on our way to Boston. We already had a 5 hour lay over which ended up being 8 hours total instead. An 8 euro voucher as was of an apology really softened the blow!!! On the way home was worse. We had internal flights from Miami to Boston through another airline (we booked our original flights with aer lingus and american airlines approx 6 months prior to traveling). About a week before flying back to Boston the airline changed the flight times (their mistake as admitted by one of their customer support team on the phone). This left us 90 minutes in Orlando between connections, then as luck would have it our internal flight was delayed so we would have missed our flight from Boston back to UK. Called Aer Lingus and probably the least helpful customer service team I've ever dealt with. They could care less that due to their flight change caused us tons of issues. As far as they were concerned because it was booked through another airline it was nothing to do with them and their best solution was to book us on the same flight the following day (9pm I think the flight time was...oh and wanted to charge us the difference in fare AND a change of booking fee while they were at it, not to mention we'd need a hotel, expenses, etc, and I was in real danger of missing my daughter's birthday the following day. Absolutely disgraceful. I sent a formal complaint to the company. They wrote back saying I was entitled to claim compensation for the money spent on calling airlines to resolve our issue on the day. They didn't even bother addressing any of the other concerns. Will NEVER fly with this airline again if I don't have to. I would avoid at all costs and travel with a company that actually cares about their passengers. They're lucky they got 2 stars and that was only because the flight attendants were friendly and done their job well.
Suitcase checked in perfect condition came out unrecognisable
My £500 Calvin Klein hard shell suitcase totally damaged on every surface. Overlay hanging off in places, scratched and scuffed, chipped and dented. I couldn’t recognise it as the suitcase checked in as it looked like it had been in a war. The lock mechanism clearly tampered with and damaged beyond repair. It bought me to tears.
Why disrespect people’s property in such a deliberate way. Staff should be made responsible.
Customer service has appeased me so far with promises of a resolution.
The online form doesn’t allow a mobile number to be left and I don’t have a landline and the form is asking for a receipt. Who keeps a recover over 5 years. The bot system is highly infuriating asking if I have travel insurance, totally missing the point that it’s airport staff that need retraining and meaningful consequences for their actions. The bot then transfers me to a site that you have to pay for to join and doesn’t inform you of it’s purpose!!
I am shocked at the lever of damage to my suitcase and have been travelling for 36 years and NEVER experienced such abuse to my suitcase. It’s damaged beyond repair and I would be embarrassed to use it in that state.
I have a 15 day window for a response and although positive I will be compensated based on the reviews am not hopeful. Aer Lingus, please show Trust Pilot readers that you are an honourable and fair air line.
I will update once I have an outcome and hopefully will be able to give 5 stars.
It’s a shame that there isn’t an option to insert photos on this platform - you too would be shocked to see the result of poor and what I can only describe as deliberate damage. I could liken it to the appearance of being in a motor cycle accident
Zero Flexibility Despite Medical Evidence
\My experience with Aer Lingus was extremely disappointing.
I was forced to cancel my trip due to a serious leg surgery, a completely unforeseen medical situation that was entirely beyond my control. I submitted all the required medical documentation to support my request and hoped the airline would show at least some understanding.
I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable. I simply requested one of the following: a free date change, a travel voucher for future use, or, as a last resort, a refund. Aer Lingus refused every single option without offering any alternative or showing any compassion.
It is incredibly disappointing that, even after providing all the necessary medical evidence, the airline chose to hide behind its policies instead of treating a genuine medical emergency with empathy and common sense.
Customer service should be about helping people when exceptional circumstances arise. Unfortunately, Aer Lingus completely failed to do that.
After this experience, I will never even consider using Aer Lingus again, and I would not recommend this airline to anyone.
System Error Acknowledged, Responsibility Denied
I had an extremely disappointing experience with Aer Lingus' booking system and the way my complaint was handled.
I completed an online booking and received a confirmation screen indicating that my booking had been successful. I relied on this confirmation, only to discover later that no booking had actually been created. By the time I realised, the promotional fare had disappeared and I was unable to book the flights I needed. The only fare available over the phone was over £300, so I had to abandon my travel plans and travel by ferry instead.
During the complaints process, I repeatedly provided screenshots, passenger details and flight information, yet I was asked for the same information multiple times by different members of the Customer Care team. At one stage I was asked to provide a booking reference and ticket number, despite the complaint being that no booking or ticket had ever been generated. This made the process unnecessarily frustrating and significantly delayed the investigation.
Eventually, Aer Lingus confirmed they had located the failed booking attempt in their systems and acknowledged that the booking process appeared to indicate that my booking had been completed successfully. Despite this, they refused to accept any responsibility for the financial consequences because no ticket had been issued.
Mistakes can happen with any booking system, but what disappointed me most was the handling of the complaint. The investigation was inconsistent, information I had already provided had to be repeated, and the final response did not address why customers should bear the loss when the airline acknowledges its booking system gave the impression that a booking had been successfully completed.
Based on my experience, I found both the booking process and the subsequent customer service to be very disappointing.
Major Safety Flaw: Aer Lingus Allows Online Bookings for Unaccompanied Under-10sMajor Safety Flaw
Aer Lingus is increasingly uncompetitive, and their well-deserved 1.4-star rating on Trustpilot says it all. My recent experience exposes a shocking lack of basic safety nets in their online booking system.
Their website allowed me to fully book, pay for, and download e-tickets for unaccompanied children under the age of 10. There was no validation check, no system error, and no safety warning to stop the transaction.
If I hadn't proactively called customer service to ask how their unaccompanied minor process works, we would have turned up at check-in to an absolute disaster.
When confronted, the Aer Lingus response was deflective: they claimed it was my responsibility to read through multiple pages of terms and conditions buried in a PDF during booking. They take zero accountability for their own system's flaws.
This is an unacceptable failure in child protection and basic digital safety. Do yourself a favour: take the hassle out of flying and choose a better airline.
I raised serious concerns that my…
I raised serious concerns that my partner and I were singled out because of our sexual orientation and my partner’s race, after other passengers with apparently larger bags were allowed through without challenge.
It took Aer Lingus around seven months to reach a conclusion. During that time, emails were ignored, the complaint was closed without a proper response, and I was repeatedly asked for information already supplied.
Aer Lingus has now rejected the complaint while refusing to explain what meaningful investigation was carried out or what evidence was considered. A completely unacceptable way to handle serious concerns involving potential discrimination.
Please do not use
Please, these reviews are real- book with someone else. I have been on hundreds of flights for work and many international. I have never in twenty years of flying experienced such awful service.
Flight from MSP to DUblin, overnight. I was assaulted on the plane by a passenger sitting behind me because I put my seat back! Yes, you read it right. A reclining seat as is standard, caused the person behind me to become enraged. I’m surprised it wasn’t on the news or that we were to turn around!
The flight attendant didn’t assure anyone’s safety.
Next flight to Dublin will certainly be with a carrier I trust, not this low fare crap show.
I’m excited to see this airline had an operating loss! Can’t wait to see you out of business
For those traveling for business or with families, please spend a little more for piece of mind is my recommendation.
I strongly advise travellers NOT to use…
I strongly advise travellers NOT to use this airline. I booked to go to Belfast from Southampton. Flight was heavily delayed before ultimately cancelled. We then booked via Dubai as had to get to a wedding. This was in early July and despite Aer Lingus confirming we would be refunded at airport we have still not received our flight refund. Weekend ruined by the flights even the return delayed 5 hours! It’s worse than that because despite trying to contact customer support through direct email/phone & Aer Lingus App they simply do not respond and do not seem to care. Will certainly never fly with such a poor airline again…
Disappointed by Aer Lingus' Family Seating Policy
My wife and I are travelling with our three children from Toronto to Ireland. We chose Aer Lingus because the fare appeared to be reasonably priced and we were hoping to save some money. Unfortunately, our experience with the airline's seating policy has left me feeling extremely disappointed and, frankly, misled.
I completely understand charging passengers who want to select specific seats in advance. That is a common practice across many airlines. What I do not understand is why Aer Lingus would allow online check-in without assigning any seats at all, forcing families to wait until they arrive at the airport and speak with staff at the check-in kiosks.
This policy puts families in an impossible position. By the time we arrive at the airport, there is a very real possibility that the few remaining seats will be scattered throughout the aircraft. As a parent, I should not have to worry that my children may be separated from us and seated next to strangers simply because I chose not to pay an additional fee for seat selection.
Most airlines assign seats during online check-in. They may not be the best seats, but they at least make a reasonable effort to keep families together. If passengers want better seats or wish to change their assignment, then they can pay extra. That seems fair. Aer Lingus, however, appears to use the fear of family separation to push customers into purchasing seat selection.
Looking at the limited number of seats remaining, I felt I had little choice but to pay for seats. In effect, the airline created a situation where paying extra was the only realistic option for a family of five wanting to sit together. That does not feel like a service, it feels like a trap.
I booked with Aer Lingus thinking I was getting a good deal, but after adding seat selection fees, I am paying more than I would have with many other reputable airlines. For this trip alone, I paid approximately $500 in seat selection fees, and I expect I will have to pay a similar amount again for the return journey.
My advice to anyone considering Aer Lingus is simple: factor in the cost of seat selection before comparing fares. If you are travelling as a family and want any reasonable assurance that you will sit together, be prepared to add hundreds of dollars to the advertised ticket price.
I am very disappointed with this experience. I chose Aer Lingus to save money, but instead I feel that I was pressured into paying significantly more than expected. I only hope other families are made aware of this policy before booking so they can make a fully informed decision.
Aer Lingus horror show
Hard to start or even explain how abject this company is. I'll start with a few positives but my goodness are the negatives absolutely staggering.
Positives...the initial booking process. The odd friendly staff member we came across at bhx and jfk. As at Dublin there were few and afr between.
Negatives...my goodness where do I start.
The app is poor. Luggage details disappeared off the app not showing any entitlement. We spoke to an agent who had us believe we had no checked baggage so spent £130 for the privilege.
Only to later find we had a 23kg per person entitlement.
Called aer lingus back and were ttold no refund even after explaining. The issue had to be pushed to eventually get a refund....very poor.
Ps this took about a week btw
Onto the flight arrived at birmingham airport where check in was painfully slow. Website claims you can check in 3 hrs beforehand but staff actually arrived around 2 hrs while a queue snaked away.
People coming from the back of the queue to ask staff if they would be OK!!
Onto the flight all was well so we thought until we arrived in John F Kennedy.
Waited at the carousel to be told by a staff member that your luggage was still in Dublin (ie 2 of our 3 cases)
Arrived at the hotel with no clothes for myself and my luggage arrived at 2000 the following day.
My sons luggage arrived 3 days later !!
In the interim we spoke to many aer lingus staff about our luggage all of whom gave poor quality and unreliable information!!!
Trip was completely soured by day 3....could it get any worse?
Well on the return the flight was delayed 3 hours so missed connection at Dublin.
Original 630am flight became 1850 dep.
Spoke to many staff at Dublin and my goodness were they obtuse cold and unhelpful!!!
For my own sanity I'll never travel with Aer Lingus again...they have stooped and my god were they close to the ground.
A horrendous experience that was capped off by poor communication from a member of their executive team who lacked any autonomy. Will not give her name outright as the issue seems to be companywide?
AVOID
Ps I have missed many issues as the horror show was beyond comprehension
Der letzte Laden. Vorsicht
Mein Flug von Frankfurt nach Dublin Flug-Nr. EI651
Also muss man in Dublin klagen.
Was das kostet steht in keinem Verhältniss zum Schaden.
Also.
Aer Lingus nie wieder
Terrible rude staff and service
Terrible rude and unhelpful staff at check in at Dublin Airport.
My family were travelling to koh samui from Dublin. Despite my autistic son displaying an important flyer lanyard , the check in rude girl would not facilitate sitting him with a family member and dotted up all around the aircraft for the London to Singapore leg of our flight 13 hours.
I had to speak to the crew once on board to fix this. Also she said our luggage could not be sent to our destination directly and id have to collect it at Singapore then recheck it in. The staff at Singapore had never heard of this before. On the return trip when I was checked in by Bangkok Airlines we sat together for every leg of the trip and our luggage was sent straight through to Dublin no problem.
The staff member in Dublin at my departure was exceptionally rude and had no interest in listening thst my son could not sit on his own. She was also very arrogant and abrupt.. ..
I asked to speak with a supervisor only to be told ...what difference will thst make . Terrible se4vice all round. Zero stars would be too many
