Aer Lingus gave me advice, I followed it, and they refuse to take responsibility
I accept that the original booking error was mine. My complaint with Aer Lingus is about what happened AFTER that mistake.
I contacted Aer Lingus directly while desperately trying to resolve the situation. On multiple occasions I was given advice and assurances by their representatives about what could be done.
Most importantly, I was specifically advised to arrive at the airport early with my intended travelling companion because I was told Aer Lingus would be able to resolve the issue there.
I relied on that advice.
I arrived early, with my travelling companion, only to discover at the airport that what I had been told could not actually be done.
By that point my options were completely different. Had Aer Lingus correctly told me beforehand that nothing could be done at the airport, I could have made the decision to travel alone. Instead, having followed their advice and brought my travelling companion to the airport, I ended up purchasing a last-minute replacement ticket at a cost of £1,230.58.
I subsequently complained to Aer Lingus and eventually escalated the matter to the office of their Chief Customer Officer.
Crucially, Aer Lingus confirmed that they LISTENED TO THE RECORDED CALLS.
Yet their response continues to focus on the fact that the original booking was made through a travel agent.
That completely misses my complaint.
I am not asking Aer Lingus to take responsibility for my original booking mistake or for the travel agent's actions.
I am asking them to take responsibility for the consequences of advice subsequently given to me by THEIR representatives, which I relied upon when deciding what to do.
Their response has effectively been to apologise, refuse any meaningful financial responsibility and declare the matter closed.
For me, that raises a very worrying question:
If a customer cannot rely on advice given directly by an airline's own representatives, who exactly are they supposed to rely on?
Mistakes happen. I made one and have accepted responsibility for it from the beginning.
I simply expected Aer Lingus to show the same level of accountability for theirs.
Unfortunately, despite exhausting their complaints process and escalating this to senior management, they have chosen not to do so.
Extremely disappointing customer service and an even more disappointing approach to accountability.
Ground staff amazing but woeful…
Ground staff amazing but woeful customer service. I made a genuine mistake adding two hold bags ( can’t confirm it was entirely my fault but went back on page and when returned two bags were added and only needed one) Phones straight away and was told it wasn’t a problem and would be sorted. A week before travel, I received and email apology for the long timeframe and a refusal to refund. I had ask the customer rep that I would be happy with a credit as I fly frequently to which he said that a refund would be actioned. I called customer services again to be told that the information given was a mistake, so the company can make a mistake but the customer can’t! It was clear to see it was a mistake as I had to do two booking as hubby and I were returning on different dates and he had no return bag on the booking. As customers we get totally shafted with airlines but I always felt Aer Lingus was better…not so sure after this experience.
Aussi bien que les autres compagnies
Malgré tous les mauvais avis, notre vol pour New York en provenance de Bruxelles avec escale à Dublin s'est passé sans aucun soucis. Compagnie aussi correcte que les autres.
This is a terrible airline
This is a terrible airline. I booked a flight for a friend. He had his boarding pass, but when he arrived at the airport, they couldn't find it in their system. I tried to call customer but there was no answer. He ultimately missed his flight and now I am disputing the ticket, since he was never allowed to use it. The airline is contesting my claim. Apparently this happens a lot to others, so you are forced to buy another ticket. Poor customer service. Use another airline.
Zero loyality to long time frequent flyers
I've spent the last 10 years referring Aer Lingus to everyone I know. That will no longer be the case.
I fly to/from Ireland 6-7 times per year - I exclusively use Aer Lingus for this and have done so for years.
This time around, I made a mistake. I meant to book Lisbon-Dublin return but booked in the wrong order. I realised this 2 days before I was due to fly.
I spent 45 minutes to support, with 2 different agents - I told them that the 250 euro I've spent on these flights means nothing, and I'll have to rebook the whole set of flights from scratch - turning my €250 into around €700 in costs, with the exception of a €50 tax refund.
Great to know the meaning of loyalty at Aer Lingus. A human error on my side, for sure, but absolutely zero leniency when they easily could have fixed my mistake for a much lower cost.
Will no longer be recommending them to anyone I know - quite the opposite.
We are loyal Aer lingus passengers but…
We are loyal Aer lingus passengers but have been disappointed recently with delays in flight. This weekend we travelled to Manchester from Dublin. The flight was delayed 35 minutes on the way over and 50 minutes on the way back due to an issue with headcount. We were left in the cabin in the heat during this delay and all passengers were uncomfortable especially the babies. We will try Ryanair next time.
Booked and paid for 4 CHECKED luggage…
Booked and paid for 4 CHECKED luggage bags (1x20kg and 3x10kg) going to Spain last week. No problems going over, but on our way back the handling staff (aer lingus agents Bilbao) made us pay 50euros because one of our CHECKED bags did not comply with the CABIN bag dimensions! They were incredibly rude. We have a receipt for the 50 euros and have made a case with AerLingus and now the response is that our 50euro receipt could be for anything! Unbelievably poor customer service…we should be refunded immediately AND we should have an apology for the treatment in Bilbao where we were called ‘stupid’ as she showed us the CABIN baggage dimensions. She seemed to think cabin baggage and our checked baggage are the same thing because they both weigh 10kg! 😳
Booked Buisness class flights
Booked Buisness class flights, last leg of return cancelled.
Had to rebook the next day and was told could claim back hotel and additional costs. Due to work next day I rebooked Ryanair flights & paid for additional baggage etc then put a claim in, 8 weeks later nothing.
Also, Business, outbound used lounge and got attitude at the lounge desk as was there earlier than 3hrs before the flight. I explained we are there 3 hrs before boarding & she let us in reluctantly.
Next issue return leg, due to cancelled flight we had to pick up bags in Dublin airport after landing from Denver. Bags never turned up, went to desk and was told to wait at another belt for them to turn up, 2 flights later STILL no bags. Waited 2hrs and went back to desk and asked them to send them to home address. Zero help and told to fill details on an iPad type screen. Issues with labels and went back to desk blokes no help and attitude problem as to which an Irish lad in a wheelchair called the guy behind the counter an unhelpful so so, as to which the guy responded it’s a good job I’m in my uniform, so, threatened back. Truth is he was being zero help and what the gentleman rightly called him.
Return flight as Business also no meal I requested on the menu, ran out, other peoples used ear plugs in my seat and rubbish and then my priority baggage lost and did receive for two days.
Still out of pocket £500 & paid £5,600 for flights for this level. Since also customer services ignorant, never address the issues, request a Manager and get a Supervisor followed by days and days of silence again.
DO NOT FLY AER LINGUS terrible and certainly not Business
Very poor Airlines
Very poor , always late , always miss connections ,, poor food
Yet again delayed Aer Lingus Regional…
Yet again delayed Aer Lingus Regional Flight operated by the abysmal Emerald Airlines, the usual delay , the usual boarding call to stand ina stuffy stairwell for 35 mins and then onboard plane long wait with no air conditioning… as a Aer Lingus platinum member with multiple donestic flights a month, easy jet def more reliable , more comfortable as well .
"the plane was too small to fit all…
"the plane was too small to fit all customers baggage on"
This absolutely so wildly incompetent. There was a gentleman there who's important medication was left at another airport. I wouldn't ever use them again.
Joke
Worst airline experience ever. Firstly couldn't check in online to get extra legroom on a flight to Dublin so went to the Airport 3 hours early. Told at the airport that all legroom was taken, when I got on the plane there was loads available. Plane for a 10 hour flight was on par with a Ryanair flight to Spain, seats were past their sell by date, the in flight entertainment was in audible, even with different headphones. The rudeness of the cabin crew was on another level, obviously when they are trained they missed out the day on customer relations. Plane was late taking off which was no fault of their own, however on a 10 hour flight this could have been easily made up by going a little bit faster in the Jetstream, however this would mean using a bit more fuel. The food was awful, asked for chicken, given pasta. On landing at Dublin we were held up due to a plane blocking our path. Could put up with most things but the general rudeness and the non caring side of the staff is on a different level. Currently on Flight EI208 to Manchester, my luggage is probably left in Dublin due to the lateness of the flight from San Francisco. Don't think 30 minutes between planes is enough. At gate 303 was asked if all was OK by one of the staff and when I dare say I wasn't happy was torn off a strip and was told that they would refuse me boarding after the conversation about my baggage probably being left in Dublin. Apparently it's no big deal all i have to do is fill in a form at Manchester and eventually it will turn up. My reply to that wasnt satisfactory for her. Then told my seat allocation had been changed and moved, on the plane I now have someone else's seat, fortunately the passengers have sorted this as I honestly believe it's beyond the staffs capabilities to resolve. Problem now with the refuling truck and should have left over half hour ago, still on the tarmac. Its been 40 years since I have flown with this airline, never again. AIR LINGUS more like AIR FUNGUS.
Worst booking experience of my life!!!
Worst booking experience of my life!!!
I tried to do a group booking for my family of 7 people (5 adults, 2 kids), it didn't allow me to select if they were adults or children upon booking, only "passengers". That one issues is causing me no end of pain! I cant choose to seat everyone together, nor check in their pram / car seats. I called customer service who were no help at all!
More stress on the day of the flight when we'll also be in a rush, can't believe aer lingus process, I will never fly with them again!!
I travel from Manchester UK to JFK via…
I travel from Manchester UK to JFK via Dublin on Aug 4th 2026 ,they left my luggage behind , I was told when I went to Aer Lingus baggage claim counter for the report that they will send my luggage to my address next day VIA FedEx ,today is August 13th and I still don’t have my luggage, been calling the airline luggage service every single day and not getting a straight answer, I was given a phone numbers at the airport with the claim ,been calling that number over a week now and nobody answers and can’t leave the msg because the answering machine is full,Hopefully the airline will get this msg and help me with my luggage
24-Hour Cancellation Ignored & 5-Day Baggage Ordeal
DO NOT fly Aer Lingus! My experience highlights a systemic issue where Aer Lingus relies exclusively on online forms that are subsequently ignored or left unprocessed. Due to multiple system and logistical failures, my checked luggage was delayed for five days, ultimately resulting in the bag being delivered to the wrong address. The issues included Inaccurate Contact Information: The reference paperwork provided by airport staff contained an out-of-service telephone number. Lack of Direct Support: Multiple online callback requests went unanswered, and it was impossible to reach a representative by phone. Premature Case Closure: Aer Lingus deactivated my tracking reference number as soon as the bag was located, preventing me from tracking the subsequent delivery process. Courier Mismanagement: The airline failed to update the delivery couriers when I submitted the required online form detailing my change of accommodations. As a result, the bag was delivered to a location I had already departed.
The other issue we faced was an unprocessed 24-Hour Cancellation Request: I attempted to utilize the 24-hour cancellation policy to adjust my flight date. Because the airline does not provide a phone agent or automated chat option for this process, I was forced to submit the required online form. No action was taken, and no representative contacted me.. In a world where we have choices.....DO NOT waste your money and time. You will live to regret it
Far worse than just appalling
Worst customer service ever!!! Flight from EDI to MSP via DUB. Landed at DUB and found terminal closed due to security alert (not AL's fault). Terminal reopened, disembarked and stood in chaotic queues for 3.5 hours - no customer assistance. Arrived at gate and found transatlantic flight now cancelled (along with about 10 other flights). No assistance from AL staff at departure gate - told to make own arrangements for overnight stay. Too another 60 mins to exit the terminal because we were on the airside and nobody was around to let us back out. Managed to find a hotel (50 kms away). Txt message that evening that we were re-booked on flight next day. Woke up and another email - that flight was cancelled and offering new flight in 3 more days (but no change available on the return). AL not contactable and no assistance finding alternatives. Cancelled the trip, arranged our own flights back to Edinburgh and then alternative from Glasgow via Icelandair. It took 5 months and about 15 emails (including 3 to CEO when they closed our case twice) to get refunds for canceled flight and costs of stay in Dublin. AL disputed EVERYTHING. Even taxi fares from airport to the hotel on the grounds that the receipt did not indicate the currency - a Dublin taxi, what did the expect, Japanese Yen? We had to open a section 75 case though our credit card company to get full refund for the cancelled flights. I WILL NEVER EVER FLY AER LINGUS AGAIN!!
