We’re very sorry for the slight delay in responding to this customer’s email.

The message was received late on Monday evening, and unfortunately our mail order manager was unexpectedly off sick on Tuesday, which meant a small number of emails were answered slightly later than our usual 24-hour response time. We replied as soon as possible and have confirmed that the customer is absolutely able to proceed with their return.

We do always aim to respond promptly and pride ourselves on offering personal, attentive service. In this instance, the delay was just over one working day due to unforeseen illness, which we hope customers will understand can occasionally happen in a small independent business.

We’re pleased the return can now go ahead and are, as always, happy to assist further if needed.

We’re sorry to see this 1-star review and for the frustration caused by the delivery delay.

The customer contacted us via live chat on Friday 15th January, and we responded the same afternoon to confirm that a formal investigation had been raised with FedEx regarding the parcel being held at Memphis import customs. As this was raised just before the weekend, we are currently awaiting FedEx’s response.

When a shipment is held by customs, neither the sender nor the recipient is provided with detailed information until the carrier completes their checks, and this process can take several working days at busy import hubs.

Delays of this nature are very rare. However, if FedEx do confirm that a parcel is lost, we always offer either a replacement or a full refund. The case is ongoing and being actively monitored, and we will update the customer as soon as we receive further information.

We pride ourselves on responding promptly and supporting our customers when issues arise.

Update: Fedex informed us that the parcel was officially lost and the customer has been refunded in full.

Thank you so much. Shipping to the EU from the UK is a lot harder since Brexit and even though we ship DDP (duty paid) Germany customs in particular were awkward and often tried to double charge! We've really tightened everything up since Autumn 2025 and now only ship via Fedex overseas which, fingers crossed, has eliminated 99% of issues.

The Maitresse bullet bra is a long-standing style that we’ve been producing and selling for over 20 years, made to a traditional 1950s design using specialist factories. While we appreciate that vintage-inspired lingerie can feel quite different from modern bras, the vast majority of our customers are very happy with this style, which is reflected in its 4.5-star on our site which uses the Judge me verified reviews app.

Thank you for your review. We’re genuinely sorry that things didn’t work out as you’d hoped, and we’d like to offer some context for future customers.

As a small brand, we do everything we can to help customers choose the right size, which is why every product page includes detailed, garment-specific measurements, along with our general size guide. We’re always happy to give personalised sizing advice too. When we heard on 2nd October that the item was too small and the sizing seemed “wrong,” it appeared the measurements hadn’t been checked beforehand, as they are accurate to the garment.

Our returns policy is available at checkout, on our website, and enclosed with every order. Customers can start a return at any time during the returns window through our online portal, without needing to contact us first. We didn’t receive any further messages until 8th December — around 10 weeks after delivery — asking how to return the item, which was unfortunately well outside the timeframe in which we’re able to accept returns.

For international customers, we also cover duties upfront as a courtesy. These can be reclaimed if an item is returned promptly, but only within a fixed period. Once that window closes, the duties become non-refundable, which leaves us unable to process very late returns without incurring a loss — something we simply can’t absorb as a small independent brand.

We always aim to be flexible wherever possible, especially when customers let us know if something unexpected has caused a delay. In this case, no reason for the long gap was given, and the request came far beyond our stated policy, so we weren’t able to make an exception.
