Bit of a shame Le Shuttle

Bit of a shame Le Shuttle, checkin is excellent, but delays out and back are disappointing. What’s more it seems quite a regular occurrence. Other reviews cite lack of information, we have a page and a half on the information screens with details of trains that have left, and no details of our delayed train. It’s poor. After nearly 3 hours we had an automated sorry for the delay at Folkestone, 2 hours thus far in Calais and nothing. I am sure Le shuttle will be very sorry for the inconvenience, as they have been on some of the negative reviews, but rather than be belatedly sorry Le shuttle, why not address the common theme…provide your customers with updates, keep your information screens current.

Absurde lange wachttijden voordat je eenmaal in de trein staat. 2 uur van start parcours door twee slecht georganiseerde douaneposten en capaciteitsproblemen bij de trein.

Once great, now a crumbling, delayed service that is not fit for purpose

My first trip on the Eurotunnel (now LeShuttle) was over thirty years ago. In those days it was a revelation- 35 mins to France and super efficient. Smooth trains, reasonably priced and easily made a day trip a possibility from our home in Kent. I wondered why anyone would bother with the ferries.

I’ve used it a lot over the years, but fast forward to this weekend and how the service has changed.

Firstly, price. We were away for a single night and the return cost an eye watering £250. This was the basic price - not FlexiPlus or anything upgraded.

The outbound journey started fine. They ask you to arrive at least 60 mins before your scheduled crossing so we got there and checked in just after 6:00am for a 7:36am crossing.

The Folkestone terminal is run down and shabby. The food outlets were heaving and understaffed.

Watching the screens and we noticed our departure time shifting outwards. Information was very limited. Eventually, the train was an hour late leaving. Absolutely no reason was provided for the delay. There was no apology.

The crossing itself was uneventful, although we noted that the trains seem to bounce around a lot more these days. The train was also uncomfortably hot with no airflow through the carriage. Half of the toilets were out of order.

At the end of the journey, the doors between our carriage and the one in front failed and had to be manually opened - keeping us held inside the hot carriage for a further 10 minutes until we were finally released. Again, no apology.

We were prepared for queues when we returned home so arrived at the Calais terminal at 15:50 for our 18:06 crossing. At check in (which was done manually as the self check in screens weren’t functioning) we were told we had been moved to the 17:54. We were allocated H5 boarding code.

We parked up and went inside the terminal to wait for our call to head to passport control. As we waited, delays filtered down through all services. They reported 30 min delays to start but this continued to increase. We noticed that not only were H1 and H3 showing as ‘go to immigration control’, J1 and J3 were too, despite being a later train. Feeling that there must be a mistake we returned to our car.

For some reason, in their wisdom LeShuttle make ALL cars drive through EVERY car park row to get to immigration. Because immigration was backed up this meant the entire carpark was gridlocked with people unable to reach spaces.

We eventually got into the queue and followed the traffic to a checkpoint where we were stopped due to being H5 and diverted back to the entrance of the carpark! We asked why H1 and H3 were allowed through but H5 wasn’t despite being on the same train but were given a generic ‘because they are’ reply.

Having spent another 15 minutes looping every row in the carpark the H5 display eventually showed ‘proceed’ and we made it through. Passport control was quick enough and we went through to the departure lanes.

When we got to area where you are divided into lettered lanes, the car in front was stopped because they were on a K service which was not ready (and was a full hour after our H one). The staff were confused about what to do and after lots of head scratching let them go on the H train! It therefore seems that the way to get on an earlier crossing is just ignore the rules and chance your arm. The same for a lady who used the disabled lane to jump the queue- when challenged, she pleaded ignorance and was simply moved across to the departure lane in front of everyone else.

In the end the return leg was also over an hour late leaving Calais - forcing everyone to sit in 35 degree heat waiting to board. Again, no apology, no reason given for the delays.

It’s really sad to see what a shambles this service has become. Given the delays it was no quicker than the ferry and we spent far too much of our weekend away dealing with delays. Staff are stretched and the trains are aging and failing. Amidst all of this was the complete lack of any sort of apology - a complete lack of customer care.

The app is also hopeless - travel information woefully out of date, presumably unable to keep up with the volume of delays on the service.

Maybe after its glory years LeShuttle is now second best to the ferries. I’ll give them a go next time instead.

Another Delay

Yet another delay on the outward bound journey from Folkestone to Calais. It is becoming a regular occurrence with no acknowledgement to feedback emails. To make matters worse, on this occasion, we sat in the lane ready to board for at least 2 hours before actually boarding only to find the toilets on the train were out of order, but this was only discovered after a long walk through the train. These crossings are not cheap but the service is, regrettably, not reflecting the price.

So easy to get on and off on motorcycle. Very quick way to get to France. Really well organised. Have used a few times now and will certainly use again

Good trip.Self check in wouldn’t work…

Good trip.Self check in wouldn’t work properly so a bit stressful with people waiting behind.Pressed help button and was booked in.Really happy.Went and waited in line for about 20 mins to get through passport control,then waited to board.

We were waiting over 2 hours to board…

We were waiting over 2 hours to board the train 21/06/26 . Ques for all areas were huge. No trains were leaving & got sun stroke during the wait.

No organisation & as a result we ended coming back 2 trains later due to our que being held back by staff twice whilst other ques were free to board.

Never again.

LeShuttke is a SCAM

LeShuttke is a SCAM. I booked a trip from Folkestone to Calais with a return ticket, but I changed my departure date to a day earlier, for which I paid extra, but they cancelled my return. I tried to call them and ask them what was going on, but they told me that I had to buy a new ticket, absolute scammers and cowboys.
