My two-week Iboga initiation in the jungle of Gabon was one of the most profound and deeply healing experiences of my life.

To sit with Iboga in the land where it comes from, guided by 10th-generation Bwiti shaman Moughenda, is something that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world. Being immersed in the culture, the land, and the lineage that holds this medicine added a depth and integrity to the experience that I will carry forever.

The ceremonies were incredibly powerful, deep, and beautifully held. The dancing, the singing, and the collective energy of the temple created a space that felt both timeless and alive. The fire talks were sacred, intentional, and deeply healing.

The food throughout my time was excellent, nourishing, and prepared with such care, which made a huge difference during such a transformative process.

What stood out most was the generosity and openness of Moughenda and his community. Opening his home and his village to us Westerners is a true act of humility, trust, and service. To be welcomed so fully into Bwiti life, even for a short time, was an honour beyond words.

I am deeply grateful to Moughenda and the entire village for holding this work with such authenticity and heart. This was not just a retreat, it was a true initiation, offering deep healing, connection, and a profound respect for the medicine and the culture it comes from.

Thank you, Moughenda, for sharing this sacred lineage with the Western world, without which I would not have been able to have this deeply spiritual and transformative experience.

Moughenda and his team offers exceptional training in a deeply unconventional yet profoundly effective way. They give everything needed to ensure you are fully equipped to become a responsible and grounded bridge for this medicine, if you choose to walk that path. For those called to this path and willing to do the work, Bwiti House/Moughenda's village offers something truly rare and profound.

I was in the village 3 months ago, and wanted to leave it a bit before I left a review to let the integration period settle in.
Every one at the village are really awarsome you are in good hands and really are kept safe, which was a worry for me and that I can gather they are quite traditional, food was absolutely spot on, everything is cleaned every day and you get your washing done for you.
Now for the down side, unfortunately the village is next to quite a busy road which I really wasn't expecting, the living conditions are maybe a bit low, shared Turkish toilets which means you poop in a hole no flushing, so time your poops right cause mid day pooping is not the one the smell is quite bad, showering I quite liked really big bucket of water (not heated), wasn't expecting to be sleeping on a mattress on the floor a actual bed i do feel would be nice, but on the other hand the way you have to live does kind of add to the whole experience I think , if it's in your budget I would go VIP but get the feeling even that could be a little disappointing was hearing that the running water wasn't really working well so you'll be using the Turkish toilets.
There are pre-iboga things you do spiritual sauna, herbal teas etc which are pretty cool and was really thinking it was gonna help the ceremonies.
So the Iboga experience it self, I really want to say this was brilliant or at least hard/challenging experience, but I can't cause there just wasn't really anything, for me it was 6 hours of laying down doing noting basically trying to get it to work which was a bit frustrating as you can't leave the temple till sunlight , the last ceremony was pretty ok but still far from what I would call the iboga experience, unfortunately it felt like a guilded meditation noting really special or what you could say as a real spiritual experience, I really tried to not be frustrated and from ceremony to ceremony after not really getting a experience I just kept pushing my feelings aside of this is horse crap, I really tried to focus and get the iboga to work but I really think that the dose I received was to low for me, but I was not the only one saying this the 5 other people who had the 2 weeks there agreed that we wasn't having much of a experience and wanted more iboga during ceremony but we was told we are being given enough,this was my second time at a iboga retreat and even the first time not really much happened but the after effects was out standing, if I'm comparing them both my first retreat was much better would say it was more of a iboga experience and half the money and didn't have to travel half way around the world.
Unfortunately really not worth the time or money at all, and if any thing I am only left with a disappointing and slightly bitter feeling and a lighter wallet 😭.

Thank you for your reply as the last time we spoke via WhatsApp you said you would no more correspondence with me.
It seems as if you did not follow your own protocol when I was at the village as I was never drug tested while there, I had been to a retreat in the past and gave up at least 8 months before getting to the village and and had been talking to people from the village updating you before I got to you, so as for saying I tested positive for cocaine which is completely false, I'm insulted by that
How comes in one of the ceremonies I had more iboga than everyone else that don't any drug addiction

You guys have really disappointed me

I was at Bwiti house last February. Those fantastic things that the gentleman during the interview told me would happen on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd ceremony? None of that happened. It's just marketing. I went there so that I would have a real and knowledgeable shaman to work with. But Moughenda doesn't care about the people that come. During our first talk we had when we arrived he told us "I have my own problems". Not once has he approached us to consult how we were doing. When I could not make anything out of my ceremonies and went to him for help he brushed it away. The only thing he cares about is MONEY. And so out of our group of 4 - 2 people left without getting anything out of that. Fortunately that did not discourage me and last week I did another initiation with authentic people. So I can compare. The "initiation" that Moughenda does is a friggin' Disneyland! Put on costumes, make a show for the tourists, dose them with iboga and Voila! ...there's your initiation gringo - you ain't got no idea what an initiation is anyway...

My time in Moughenda’s Village was nothing short of transformative. Although I had experienced Iboga before, arriving at the village and meeting Moughenda—and all the wonderful people there—had a profound and lasting effect on me.

If I had to describe my experience with Moughenda in one word, it would be authentic. It’s rare to meet someone so honest, so whole, and so deeply rooted in the work they do. His support and mentorship guided me through my own healing and helped prepare me to become the provider I am today.

One of the most powerful aspects of my time in the village was being immersed in the Bwiti tradition. The Bwiti teachings, which Moughenda carries and shares with deep integrity, are inseparable from Iboga. Learning directly from him opened my eyes not only to the medicine, but to the wisdom, discipline, and worldview that surround it. It’s a lineage of knowledge that grounds the healing and gives it meaning.

Moughenda has a unique way of helping you see your blind spots—not by pointing them out, but by asking the right questions at the right time so you can discover them yourself. There is nothing more valuable in this world than truly knowing oneself, and I leave the village with that deep knowing—and a whole lot of gratitude.

Having Moughenda as a teacher, guide, and healer is something I’ll always be thankful for.

I spent two weeks at Moughenda’s Village for my Bwiti Initiation, and I can genuinely say it was a rebirth. My physical body is still catching up to the quantum leaps my spirit made. This was not a retreat. It was not tourism. It was a sacred return; guided with care, integrity, intention, and a deep respect for the lineage and the medicine.

From the moment I arrived, I felt held; not just by the people, but by the land itself. There was a peace that felt both foreign and familiar. The men and women of the village supported me with patience, love, strength, and humor. It quickly felt like family. I was received with nourishment: conversations, laughter, healing teas, and some of the most delicious meals.

Papa Moughenda carries a grounded and expansive presence. He teaches through truth and lived knowing, not performance; and I admired that deeply. Through Iboga, he shared reflections that were precise, clear, and resonant. I felt seen in a way that was simple, honest, and without ego.

Sitting with Iboga was unlike any plant medicine I’ve ever worked with. It is subtle, intelligent, steady, and deeply grounding. It held up a mirror and I saw myself clearly. The fire chats and the ceremonies were so amazing I’d often have to pinch myself to ask is this real? As a woman of African Descent it felt like a homecoming.

The Bwiti tradition helped me remember what I have always known:

Truth does not come from outside of us.
It reveals itself in the body through, breath, the senses, and in presence.

I released layers of doubt, shame, and inherited beliefs that were never mine. I met myself again, clearly and without distortion.

The support team was truly divinely aligned. They checked on me at times I didn’t know I needed support. That is the power of Iboga and community.

My initiation name, Moupetou, is a sacred reminder of who I am and what I carry. It continues to guide me as I integrate this experience.

This Village is not a place for escapism.
It is a place for remembering.
For returning.
For truth.

I leave with:
• A deeper connection to my ancestors
• A grounded sense of clarity and purpose
• A renewed relationship to ceremony, to the medicine, and to myself
• And a family that exists beyond blood and borders

This experience was more than I anticipated it being. I thought that it would be profound, but I had no idea where it would lead. I had an incredible experience at Moughenda’s village. The Bwiti culture was on full display and I took incredible enjoyment in the clothing, the music, the dancing and the culture as a whole. I was made to feel so welcome by its communities members. I was shown a different way of life and I have brought elements of that home to Canada with me as a result. It has shaped my perspective in ways that will allow me to live with a happiness and peace I did not know was possible. I encourage anyone who is serious about being honest with themselves in their lives to explore this. The teachings were simple and poignant. Moughenda is unlike any man I have met and his time and guidance were very much appreciated. The food was incredible and the man serving it, Gjill, was a beautiful individual. All the staff working there were incredible in their own right. Be warned, if you are not about taking responsibility for your own life and actions this is not for you. There is a humility required. I am so grateful for everything I received from this experience. Thank you.

Training under the supervision and guidance of Moughenda was the most powerful training and personal healing journey of my life time. I’ve spent 38 years studying & practicing natural medicine. I’m still undertaking courses in this field and nothing has come close to the depth of the knowledge Moughenda shares. Along with the kindness and care the village offers. The openness of sharing ancient traditions & teaching golden tools is unique and gratitude empowering. The two months is necessary to embrace everything and by completion I was ready to return home. My accommodation was comfortable and the food was at a higher standard than I expected. If anything to add, more supplies of local fruits, fresh vegetables & eggs would be a plus.
All in all LIFE IS THE GREATEST GIFT!

I have recently spent 2 weeks at Moughenda's village and I will forever be grateful for the insights, healing and hospitality I received.
