I paid more than the initial cost
Very bad company, very bad customer service, I paid a lot than the initial cost!
I rented a car from Budget company from Brussels South Railway Station. I paid for a guarantee of 115 EUR. Few days after I returned back the car I saw a transaction of 137.38 EUR on my credit card to Budget and the guarantee wasn't refunded after few weeks.
I tried to contact the company but they didn't answer me to calls or to emails. I contacted the Budget office from US and in the meantime they told me was a tyre damage that I didn't know. I hadn't any incident on the road. They took my money without telling me why.
After that I requested the documents to have the proofs of what was happened but they didn't answer me again.
Terrible experience
Terrible experience, complete ripoff. Tried to upsell to a higher category and then charged for some scratches that were already on the car.

Een kleine auto gehuurd van Avis via Rentalcars.com. Ik heb vooraf Euro 71 betaald voor de duur van twee dagen In Istanbul. Avis heeft tot nu toe nog eens Euro 160 afgeschreven van mijn credit card. Ik heb ze per email gevraagd om enige verklaringen af te leggen, te vergeefs. Dus geen auto van Rentalcar.com huren en zeker niet van Avis.

Jeg rejser en del og lejer bilerne gennem FDM Travel. Jeg har en Avis Preferred Plus konto, som lejemålene overføres til.
Men siden sommerferien har Avis virket helt handlingslammet.
Jeg har prøvet med 3 emails, 2 opkald til call centret (laaaaang ventetid), for at få seneste lejeaftale overført til min Avis account. Dette så man ikke skal stå i kø til skranken i lufthavnen (hvilket tager 30-45 min, i f.eks. Fiumicino/Roma)
Der sker intet, og det er ikke godt nok.

Absolutely horrible customer experience. I rented a car. The lady told me that if they weren't there when I handed back the keys, I should leave them in a box. I leave the car, and myself as well as three other passengers check the vehicle. There is nothing, no scratches or marks. There was no one at the reception to take the keys so we leave them in a box. The car was to be left in a parking space with many cars around it in the airport. 6 hours later I receive an email that I have made a big scratch in the car, a scratch that can be nothing else than another car door opening up into the car I had. I ask them to check the cameras at their own parking lot to see what has happened. They refuse. I tell them that I have photos and eye witnesses that have seen there was nothing when we left the car. They don't care. And then they charge my car without I have accepted the damage being something I did - happening after I handed in the keys because there was no one in the reception. I tell them that it is not legal to charge me without us having settled the case, and they don't care. A customer service lady called Petra has been the most rude person I have ever dealt with, she doesn't care and doesn't try to help. Don't EVER deal with these guys, they are thiefs and charge you illegally. I have rented cars 100 times in the my life and never seen anything like this. PLEASE DON'T RENT WITH AVIS / BUDGET GROUP!!!

Cannot be trusted
I made an online car reservation to pick up on the 12th August 22 at Dubrovnik airport and made a point of informing the Avis budget representative that i didn’t need extra insurance as I have my own excess insurance, i was asked to sign a blank screen to confirm I would pay for any damage to the car and was assured no additional charges would be added.
I returned the car 9 days later full of fuel with no damage and all ok with everyone happy. When I returned home I found Avis had taken an extra €165 from my credit card without permission for ‘additional insurance’ that I specifically declined on two separate occasion’s whilst at the car rental office.!
I Sent a letter of complaint and received a same day acknowledgment, but have had no reply since..!
Poor service and a CRIMINAL ACT of deceit ..!

Fabricated charges for alleged damage to hire car
We will NEVER use Avis again. And I urge you to check the number of reviews similar to ours before you hire a car from them. I just wish we had taken that precaution ourselves.
We picked up our rental car from Avis Basel Airport. The lady gave us a detailed description of damage already done to the car. These included a number of chips and a noticeable dent to the front. She assured us that all these details were held on Avis' computer system and that we would not be held accountable for any of this pre-existing damage to the vehicle and that the drop off point personnel would be aware of the existing damage to the vehicle.
Three days later we dropped the car off at the Avis drop off point at Cologne airport. The Avis man would not come over to the car and told us to leave the keys in the vehicle and go. The vehicle was returned in exactly the same condition as when we picked it up.
We subsequently got a charge of nearly $1500 for damage to the vehicle and an email from Avis asking if we had been in an accident. All attempts to communicate with Avis to get this fraudulent charge removed go unanswered. Avis Basel told us to email customer services and then hung up on me as I was talking. The email to customer services gets an automated response with a ticket number but they fail to process it. We’ve chased them numerous times but still no response.
Avis have provided no proof of the alleged damage and no proof of the alleged repair costs. They just billed our credit card for an outrageous amount of money and ignored all contacts from us disputing the charge.
We are not going to let this go. Avis cannot be allowed to treat honest paying customers this badly.
Dangerous car putting family at risk
Disgusted to discover after we got a puncture in the USA that our hire car had a bald tyre, 3 embedded nails plus two previous patch ups. The recovery mechanic said it was extremely dangerous . Car only two years old and clearly not checked before hire. Complaint raised and awaiting response. Will never use again

Överlägset sämsta bolaget jag någonsin haft med och göra! Jag rekommenderar alla starkt att ta avstånd från Avis! Kundservice som inte fungerar som det ska. Utbetalning för avbokade bokningar betalas inte ut. Gått två månader och de har fortfarande hållt inne på över 20 000 kr.
Katastrofalt service! Bolag som inte borde finnas på marknaden. Hade det funnits 0/5 stjärnor så hade jag utan tvekan gett de det.

Avis Car Rental - contradicting contract info and poor service. Diesel or Unleaded Petrol!
I am Avis preferred customer and booked my avis rental car in Cophagen for delivery and redelivery in Florence airport.
After a few days I wanted to refuel and I was in doubt what grade of fuel the car was runing on. My contract says unleaded fuel and the car documents in the glove compartment contains a large DIESEL label. Contradicting! - also my contract document stipulates I have reted a WHITE car buT I am actually driving around a BLACK Car.
I called Avis Copnhagen up. No help other than Avis Copenhagen has nothing to do with Avis Italy! - but you could help book the car in Copenhagen for delivery in Florence! - so I gather ther is a connection right?
Then I called up the italian number stipulated on my contract - six times in vain - got an italian answering machine and the line was cut.
Then I called up the hotline road assistance and it took me 10 minutes to get through. The lady could not identify my avis car by the registration number - worrying - and I had to supply the documents in the glove compartment, where she finally could confirm the car is running on unleaded petrol and NOT DIESEL as the big round label is stipulating!
Very poor serivce - and please AVIS CAR RENTAL - dont call it a hotline if you dont answer the phone immediately - and when I pick the english bottom then answer me in english.
As an avis preferred customer I will not use Avis or Their subsidiary rental company Budget ever again.
Really poor serivce and waste of my holiday time because of your unprofessional contract management and poor service.

I booked a car with holiday autos and paid in full, I picked the car up from Budget via there shuttle bus, after returning the car I had a made up bill for €349.19 for premium top up Insurance from Budget I have contacted holidayautos/Budget over and over but they keep saying I signed for it which is nonsense and I have four witnesses to prove i told them I did not want top up insurance, I will never use holiday autos, budget or Avis again.
So in your reply below you are basically agreeing that I paid in full and that the additional charges can be applied because they are mentioned somewhere in your small print and that its fine for the company at the desk at the time of booking to apply any charges that they see fit and you at holidayautos are fine with your customers having there money stolen from there credit card accounts as long as its done at the desk in a way that is dishonest and under handed and is then done with your full approval

I am sorry to learn that you were unhappy with the charges applied for optional extras. While we facilitate requests for optional extras at the time of booking, they are not included in the price quoted and are payable separately at the desk. This information was advised in the rental conditions which you agreed to prior to proceeding with your request for a vehicle.
I can imagine that this must have caused you inconvenience and would like to offer my sincere apologies for this situation.
Unfortunately as the charges were taken by the Supplier, we are not in a position to offer any refunds.

After looking at your site and discovering Avis/Budget premium top up insurance is £7 per day and as I only had the car for 6 days which is £42 not €349.19 the bank refunded me in full,
Please take my advice and don't use them

Hände weg von AVIS! Alles andere bloß nicht bei AVIS Budget Group einen Mietwagen buchen! Eine ganz schlechte Erfahrung gemacht. Sie buchen einfach einen Schaden ab, der nie entstanden war und bei der Rückgabe natürlich auch nicht vorhanden war. Schlimmer noch es wurde einfach das Geld von der Reservierungskreditkarte abgebucht. Wenn ihr schon gebucht habt: mein Ratschlag: Zeugen mitnehmen oder noch besser stornieren und lieber einen anderen Anbieter wählen!!!!

Des voleurs! N’allez pas chez eux pour louer une voiture, leur prix semblent raisonnables à première vue mais ils ne ressemblent en rien à la facture finale où les chiffres sont exorbitants : sur la facture initiale Avis indiquait que je devrais payer 1500€ tout frais compris, mais une fois arrivée sur place j’ai dû payer plus de 2000€ (pour seulement 17 jours) car apparement j’étais obligée de prendre des assurances (inutiles et superflues) en plus, etc. De plus, une fois la voiture rendue, ils ont débité des montants non justifiés sur ma carte car ils avaient conservé mon numéro de banque… du vol ! Et quand j’essaie de les appeler, ils sont injoignables et ont apparement fermé mon dossier malgré toutes les requêtes d’explication et de remboursement. Ils ont été incapables d’expliquer les raisons de ces débits sur ma carte et m’ont même raccroché au nez. Leur stratégie est clairement de prendre de l’argent à tout le monde et de décourager toute personne réclamant son droit en ne leur répondant pas au téléphone.
