Disappointing experience…
Disappointing experience and agree with many of the other reviewers - poor quality vehicle (nothing 'luxury' about it), defensive communications. I won't go into massive detail as I have already contacted them directly. Staff were respectful and polite but the whole exercise was devastating.

We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience in your Spaceships motorhome. We should point out that we refer to that model as the "Luxury" motorhome to distinguish it from our "Family" motorhome, which has the 2 single rear bunks, over the cab double bed and sleeps up to 7.
The motorhome you had features a fixed island double bed in an en suite rear bedroom, a second double which lowers from the roof in the living area, a separate shower and toilet, a fitted kitchen with oven, hob and 140 litre fridge/freezer as well as central and under floor heating, so it is a high spec motorhome.
We are also aware that your main source of frustration was the various error codes on the heating system, and despite our numerous support emails and videos on how to operate the heating control panel from 3 members of our team, you found it difficult to clear the error codes. It is important to watch the vehicle familiarisation video we email prior to pick up that demonstrates how the system is operated.
Again, we apologise that you feel that your experience was devastating, but hopefully the fact that you were able to take an 830 mile trip to visit Devon and Cornwall over 8 days has created some lovely memories that will stay with you forever.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We had travelled from Aus to spend 1 month touring around the UK and up into Ireland. We picked the van up and went to use the fridge and it wasn’t working, the battery had been run flat in it and would no longer charge unless it was plugged into power which changed our plans of staying in remote areas. They tried to tell us that we had run it flat but we had only just picked the van up! We then emailed the customer service team about strange engine noises. They told us to take it back to Edinburgh which was well out of the way for us and we had to drastically change our travel plans to accommodate. When you are driving in a foreign country, with a van that is making loud engine noises through snow, it is extremely nerve racking. When they said it isn’t a big dealand it’s probably just a belt, that didn’t sit well with us as we had no cell coverage and did not want to break down. When we asked for compensation, they told us they don’t normally offer refunds for this sort of issue and that “it’s all part of the adventure”. They gave us a half day refund, no mention of loss of accommodation already booked, and then having to rebook into new accommodation. When we picked the new van up we got a small crack in the windshield from a rock that flew up from a passing by vehicle, but lucky we had paid for the silver level excess, otherwise I can’t imagine how much they would have charged us! The vans are very outdated and not maintained well and there was a concerning amount of mould on the roof. Very disappointing!!!

We are surprised and a little disappointed by your 1 star rating however.
As you say, it seems as though unfortunately you drained the leisure battery on the original campervan. This was probably caused by running the fridge for a period of time while not driving or on hook up, so the leisure battery wouldn't retain charge. The fridge did work fine on hook up.
You also noticed a strange sound when starting the vehicle. We checked this with our Fleet team from the video you emailed and suggested it would be a fault on the aux belt or tensioner that had developed. We advised you that if the vehicle was driving OK, which it was, it was OK to continue. We also offered you the option of swapping into a replacement vehicle at our Edinburgh branch, which you decide to take. We prepared the replacement vehicle with all new kit for you to pick up.
It was a 140 mile, 2.75 hour journey from The Lake District to Edinburgh. If you had wished, you could have simply returned to the Lake District to continue your original itinery.
You also cracked the windscreen on the replacement vehicle which resulted in it needing to be replaced on your return. The cost was £432 but this was covered by your Silver cover insurance. It did however mean that you lost the £250 damage deposit which is possibly the reason for your 1 star review.
It does seem a harsh review when we gave you a replacement vehicle at no extra cost, your insurance covered the bulk of the windscreen replacement cost and you travelled 1270 miles in the first vehicle and 2145 in the second, over 3400 miles in 27 days. In addition, we even gave you a half day's rental refund for the inconvenience of travelling 2.75 hours to pick up the replacement vehicle we prepared for you.
Thanks for hiring with Spaceships and we are sorry if it was a disappointing experience for you. We did everything we could to assist you throughout your trip. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to respond to some of the issues you raised.

We notice that you edited your original review, but unfortunately there are a couple of inaccuracies that we would point out. You hadn't just picked up the van when the leisure battery had drained. When we spoke about this on the phone you informed us you hadn't been on hook up and the fridge worked, but not on the leisure battery. Unfortunately, you had completely drained the leisure battery, which is why the fridge worked on hook up only.
In the unlikely event that the campervan had broken down as a result of the noise (which it didn't) we offer free 24/7 roadside support. If you take a holiday in another country without getting adequate cell phone/data coverage, that is not our responsibility.
We offered you a replacement vehicle. We didn't tell you you had to have one. You chose that option and could have returned, same morning, to go back to your original accommodation. That again was your choice.
It was a large crack in the windscreen which resulted in it having to be replaced. As we said, the replacement cost would have been £432 without your insurance.
As we said originally, we are sorry you were disappointed with your 27 day/3,400 mile trip around the UK, but hopefully we did everything we could to help and support you.

Great van, but more customer contact needed
The van was great and fairly well appointed, there were a couple of issues.
1/ contact less pickup was easy, but I would have preferred to have someone to run questions by.
2/ the canister in one of the gas cookers was empty and the other only had enough gas to boil the jug once.
3/ having some explanation about how to manage the UK road tolls would have helped and saved me $140.00 NZ in extra charges.
4/ explaining what Ad Blue is could have helped save a lot of confusion.
Apart from that, we drove over 2000 miles and saw some beautiful places.

Thanks also for your feedback. We'll pass that back to our branch teams and will use that to help us to continually improve our service.
Most customers love the contactless pick up with all vehicle information and online check in completed in advance. That means no forms to fill in, no hanging around at the branch and more time on the road! There is always someone at the branch if you have any questions or need any help though.
Apologies about the Gas Cannister. We leave a couple in the campervans, but they are re-used, so it's sometimes difficult to know how much is in. We can refund for those if you email us.
Similarly with AdBlue, the additive to reduce emissions from diesel. It's topped up on pick up, but you may need to add a 5 litre top up if you travel 2,000 miles. We do mention that in the campervan familiarisation video we email before collection.
With the toll roads, it's difficult to know how we can help. The tolls are clearly marked, and on motorways you can pay at a kiosk, where with other tolls like the Dart crossing you can pay online. It is actually quite difficult to miss a toll in the UK!
The main thing is you had a great trip travelling 2,000 miles on your UK #SpaceshipsRoadTrip. We hope we will see you again in the future for more Space travel and maybe we can make it a 5 star review next time.

Buena opcion y sin ningun problema con la empresa
Era la primera vez que alquilaba una furgoneta y despues de leer varias reseñas la verdad que lo hice con mucho miedo. Creo que me decante por spaceships rentals por relacion calidad-precio.
Alquilamos una furgoneta caddy en edimburgo y la verdad que no tuvimos ningun problema. Alquile el seguro oro, ya que me gusta siempre que alquilo un coche intentar no darle opcion al arrendatario a que me cobre algun arañazo o cualquier cosa que pueda pasar por alto cuando recibo la furgoneta. Como siempre hago cuando alquilo coches hice bien de fotos y video, revise que todo lo que se supone que tenia que venir de utensilios,... estaba correcto, probe la mayor parte de las funcionalidades antes de salir (luces, comprobar ruedas,...). No he tenido ningun problema, la verdad que muy contento con el alquiler, pensaba que igual la caddy se quedaba un poco pequeña, pero para gente de 1,8m va bien; y de cara a moverte por las tierras altas fui mas tranquilo que con una furgoneta mas grande. En definitiva podria volver a repetir con esta empresa.

Vehiculo en mal estado
Hemos alquilado una furgoneta Caddy durante 12 días, faltaban cosas muy básicas en el equipamiento, como algún rollo de papel higiénico, pinzas o algo para tender, un poco de jabón de platos... Pero lo más grave fue que el ruido que hacía el coche, habla algo que rozaba la rueda y hacia un zumbido muy molesto que tuvimos que aguantar todos los días, no recomiendo está empresa ya que no creo que esté bien alquilar un vehículo en estás condiciones

Gracias por tus comentarios y solo proporcionamos todos los cubiertos y utensilios de cocina como parte del kit estándar de la autocaravana.
Es posible que algunas personas no necesiten una pequeña jabonera o pinzas para la ropa, pero transmitiremos esos comentarios a nuestro equipo de flota para su consideración. También son baratos y fáciles de comprar en tu viaje si los necesitas.
Con respecto a la vibración, sugerimos mover el juego de herramientas y el gato, que pueden haber estado vibrando, pero lo comprobaremos.
Esperamos que eso no haya afectado el disfrute de su viaje.

Thanks for your feedback and we only provide all cutlery and cooking gear as part of the standard kit in the campervan.
Some people may not need a little soap dish or clothes pegs, but we will pass that feedback over to our fleet team for consideration. They are also cheap and easy to buy on your trip if you need them.
With regard to the vibration, we did suggest moving the toolkit and jack which may have been vibrating, but we'll check this out.
We hope that didn't affect your enjoyment of your trip.

Spaceship have fantastic service
We rented a motorhome for our family of 5 while we were on holiday in the UK in July. Pick up was easy, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the motorhome! Unfortunately, 5 days into our 9 day trip our motorhome broke down. Spaceship arranged for a mechanic to come to us that afternoon, and when the mechanic couldn't fix the motorhome they arranged for a specialist mechanic to come from London (4/5 hours away) - he arrived at 10pm and immediately started work (as the children slept in the motorhome, which was parked on a side street in Durham). He was missing a tool, so came back at 8am the following day and did his absolute best to fix the problem. Much to both his and our disappointment the motorhome couldn't be fixed. Spaceship and their insurance company tried hard to find us a replacement motorhome but to no avail. In the end we had to book accomodation and hire a car, but Spaceship immediately refunded us 4 days of our motorhome, and their insurance paid for 2 days of the rental car we had to get. We lost one day of our holiday, and the rest of our holiday was slightly different then planned, but we so appreciated the speedy efforts made by the mechanics, spaceship staff and their insurance company to find the best solutions for us. Life happens, and while another motorhome would have been wonderful I would 100% book with Spaceship again. Thank you!

In a way you've hit the nail on the head. When you take a #SpaceshipsRoadTrip, your adventure is just beginning. The reason we do what we do is to create lifelong memories for people, experiences they will cherish forever.
As you say, life happens, (and sometimes other stuff!) and it doesn't always work out as planned. Your motorhome developed a diesel leak that unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we couldn't repair at roadside.
But if we can, we will always do our best to help you. We were able to have a couple of options for you, and continuing your journey down through Wales and back to London by car was the best for you. We are delighted that you and your family still had a great time, despite things not quite going as we all would have liked.
Wise words and a life lesson! Sometimes things don't always go to plan, but the trick is how you respond to that and make the best of the situation.
May we also thank you for your positive attitude and courtesy, and for carrying on to have a fantastic UK roadtrip. We would love to see you again for more Space travel in the future!

Great experience with Spaceships Rentals!
The information we got before arrival, was received in due time and very clear and complete. The Campervan was clean and tidy at pick up. Everything we asked for was present (double bedding, chairs, tabel). The bedding was warm (although the pillows were quite thin so for more sleeping comfort you might arrange something for that). The van came with a handy cooking set as well. Tip is to bring an extra rope (or for spaceship: to add a rope with the gear), so you can fasten up de side tent on very windy sites. This is quite handy, if you sleep somewhere along the windy NorthCoast 500. Besides those little tips, our journey was unforgettable and this is also because of the good rental experience with Spaceships Rentals. I would definitely recommend renting a van with this company.

We can see that you have left us a 1 star review because we charged you £200 for not emptying the toilet cassette on your return.
We explain this in our return email, suggest you spend the last night at a campsite to use their facilities and email a video showing how simple it is to empty the cassette. We also point out there will be a £200 charge if you return the motorhome with the cassette unemptied. You can even book our Express Return where you arrange for us to empty the casstte.
We try to help you in every way with this, but you did not do any of that and unfortunately you returned your motorhome without emptying the toilet cassette. You can add levelling ramps or toilet chemicals to your booking as an extra, and the interior is not "broken".
If you had booked the Express Return or simply emptied the toilet cassette, you would have avoided the £200 charge and probably would not have felt the need to leave an unfair 1 star review.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity of explaining this situation.

Do not doubt and rent your campervan…
Do not doubt and rent your campervan with Spaceships. Even though there is a contactless pick up and drop off (which works flawless and is very quick and convenient), the service is outstanding! The online support is very responsive, personal and works great, very impressive!
Flexibility of the company is great as we could easily change our drop off time and easily book an extra day.
Prices are fair for what you get: very descent and clean campers with a good set up. We had the smaller one, the volkswagen cady. Car drives smoothly and is convenient in Scottish roads. The bed with linnen is great and sets up easily. There is enough storage under the bed and above the front seats to put everything away. The extra equipment (table, chairs, cookeware,..) was of descent quality and usefull, the gasstove even came with 4 gas canisters! The tent is not huge, but sufficient and sets up easily.
No small letters or traps, just a very honest and reliable company to rent your campervan and fully enjoy your holiday.
Remember that you are renting a campervan that is used by different people for a very descent price, so dont expect a shiny brand new car, but a descent car and perfect travel companion that answers to all your needs ;)
We will definitely rent again with Spaceships and recommend this to everyone. +5 stars from our side !

The Spaceships Camper Car is perfect for the Scottish roads, and is a compact, custom designed and converted campervan with all the kit you need to enjoy life on the road.
As always though, the most important thing is that you enjoyed your trip around Scotland, visiting amazing places and making memories that will last a lifetime. It sounds cheesey, but that's what it really is all about!

Good info in the web, perfect booking experience all online and quick response. Contactless pick-up and drop off so you can go at any time. We had an issue on road and they answered us quick and solved it nicely. The voyager campervan was nice.

Great time, with small problems
+ The pick up of the van is very easy. Everything was prepared in the van when we arrived (bed sheets, kitchenware, table, chairs, etc)
+ The van is easy to drive and park.
+ The subscription to the Caravan and Motorhome Club is nice (you pay less for some camping and have a better camping spot !)
- We had 2 motor problems (the van just stopped working for 10 minutes each times)
- The bed is not verry confortable (one side of the bed was falling during nights).

We're really pleased that you liked the pick up and equipment in the van and that it drove well. Sometimes if the vehicle is idling for too long it can cause some mechanical issues and we will check the bed. It's important to set up the bed correctly and they are usually stable and comfy. Thanks for the feedback though - we'll check this out.

Nous avons réservé un mini van pour 4 jours depuis Édimbourg. Nous avons été très contents de notre expérience car la réservation était claire et facile depuis le site. La remise en main propre du véhicule se faisait via une boite à clés en autonomie et nous avons reçu un état des lieux du véhicule par mail afin de servir de preuve de ce qui était déjà abimé avant que nous prenions le van. Notre voyage s'est ensuite très bien passé, le véhicule était bien équipé (vaisselle, casserole, poêle, réchaud avec 2 bonbonnes de gaz, couverts, allume cigare, matériel de dépannage...) et nous avons roulé sans difficultés dans les Highland. Le SAV est aussi très rapide, j'ai pu échanger par mail avec un conseiller qui me répondait en moins d'1h pour répondre à mes questions. Concernant la remise du véhicule à la fin de la réservation, c'était aussi via une boite à clés, en autonomie. Je recommande vivement Spaceships pour leur professionnalisme, nous avons passé un agréable road trip grâce à eux !

It could have been better.
We rented the luxury mobilhome.
-lots of things were broken in the mobilhome:
*Matras didn't allign too well with the bed frame + a part was damaged of the matras.
*Bed couldn't stay in sofa mode cause of wood that was broken off of the frame.
*The window above the stove didn't insulate. Cold air came through the window when it was fully closed. We had to put a blanket in the gap to insulate it.
*The roof window blind above the front window blind fell off on 1 of the 2 sides during our trip. We had to use ducktape to keep it in place from falling off. The screw who kept it in place kept on spinning.
*We checked our tyres on pressure the 2 days after pickup.
The front tyres should be 5bar, rear 5.5.
Our tyres had 3,6 and 3,8 bar at the front. 2,6 and 3,8 bar at the rear.
I don't think our tyres were checked cause we also had 1 bald tyre at the rear.
We gave our tyres the right pressure and soon after we noticed the tyre who had 2,6 was a flat tyre.
So the next day we had to call road assistance and the repair guy told us it was illegal to drive with such a bald tyre.
That couldn't have happened in 1-3 days driving a mobilhome he said.
He then changed our bald and flat tyre.
We contacted spaceship rentals and they said it was all legal.
*5 days into our road trip our check engine light lighten up.
We contacted spaceship rentals and they said if it's not red and you can still keep accelerating there's no problem in driving.
We ignored it and the next day it went away.
6 days later the check engine light was back but now we couldn't accelerate anymore.
It was 11pm when we contacted road assistance once again. The repair guy came 1 hour later and fixed it for us luckily. Not a great moment in the middle of the night.
*The table was lose, screws weren't fully screwed in. So our table was jiggling the whole trip. We didn't have a torx screwdriver with us to fix it ourselves.
Kudos to road assistance for helping us out quicky when we were in need of help.

We are sorry that you had a problem with the tyre on your road trip. I have looked into this and we can see that we did respond during your trip.
As we explained at the time, you could have got a slow puncture during the course of your trip. You went up to the Isle of Skye and had driven 540 miles in the Highlands before calling about low tyre pressures possibly caused by a slow puncture. We emailed a copy of the vehicle check sheet with the tread depth shown. We also have checked the pick up pictures and the tyre was legal and in good condition on collection.
In addition, the motorhome tyre pressure should be 65-70 psi. The maximum pressure is 70psi - 5.5 bar is closer to 80psi.
During those emails, no other issues relating to your trip were mentioned by you, so we were suprised to see the other issues on your review. Had you raised those issues with us, we might have been able to help you.
With regard to those, the mattress and bed is designed and fitted by the manufacturer, Adria. They are renowned for being one of the world's best motorhome designers and builders, and generally we don't have any complaints about the bed. it slides backwards as a space saver in the rear double bedroom as opposed to a sofa.
We could have helped with the roof blind and table and there is a screwdriver in the emergency kit in the motorhome. If that didn't fit, we would have suggested you buy an appropriate screw driver which we would have reimbursed you for. Sometimes screws can work loose on a long trip, and you did over 1400 miles on a 15 day trip around Scotland.
With regard to the Engine Management Light, we did advise that it can be caused by the vehicle idling or by taking short trips. Occasionally this can result in the motorhome going into Limp mode, which as we explained can be rectified by re-starting the motorhome. You may have been able to avoid calling roadside assistance by simply restarting the vehicle.
We hope this helps to clarify these issues and would thank you again for giving us the opportunity of explaining the importance of getting in touch with any on road issues so that we can help you continue and enjoy your trip.

Company took online reservation, booking and credit card details, when no vehicle was available for the period I wanted.
Went on to Spaceships website to arrange an RV for a particular few days. Put in my requirements and appeared to have 'reserved' the dates and vehicle type I wanted. Two days later confirmed reservation online and converted it to a 'booking'. In order to do so was asked for my credit card details, which I supplied, only then to be told the company would get back to me within 12 hours to 'accept' my booking. Turns out they didn't in fact have the vehicle I booked available for the dates that I booked. Suggested I changed my vehicle type or dates!
I have wasted my time, when they should have been able to tell me at my initial enquiry that they could not meet my requirements.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, but unfortunately you have misunderstood the booking process.
You got a quote on the 22nd March, which you then tried to convert to a booking on the 25th March. This was a "Booking Request". On the booking web page you see a message above the vehicle that explains we have limited availability for those dates.
If you check the email you received after you followed up your quote, you will see it is headed Online Reservation Request with the following message:
Thank you for making a booking request with Spaceships.
Your booking request has now been forwarded to our team where availability will be checked, and if a vehicle is free, a booking confirmation will be send to you. You will hear back from us within 12hrs working hours.
If we do not have a free vehicle, alternatives will be suggested where possible.
We replied the same day to say the Luxury Motorhome you requested was only available from the day after your dates on the booking request, but we had a Family Motorhome available for the same dates. We have since had no further correspondence from you.
When you make a booking request, you add a Debit/Credit Card to the system to cover the 20% deposit if it is taken. We have around 40 vehicles available for hire at our London branch, but on this occasion we did not have availability for the first day of your requested dates. You took a quote, requested a booking which was never made, we offered you alternative dates and vehicle and never took any payment.
Under those circumstances, a 1 star review seems harsh and we would ask you to reconsider your review rating.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity of explaining how the quote and booking process works and we hope that you will be able to book some available dates so you can enjoy a fabulous Spaceships Road Trip.

Unsafe and sexist experience
I rented a verhicle from this compagny, the second time to do so, the first time around 2018.
Unfortunately, the vehicle broke down within close range of the pick up point due to a broken clutch, which I noticed was acting weird already from the pick up point.
I waited for help for over an hour. This can happen.
But how the dealt with the situation was sexist and unsafe for (female) solo travellers.
When help arrived, they looked under the hood, and, without telling me what the problem was, descided to test me, as they assumed I can't drive manually.
At that moment, I was cold and distressed, and was told to drive an unknown vehicle in an unknown neighbourhood whithout a reason and navigation. They did not told me why, but I felt unsure and was confused by this weird to me approach.
Safe to say, this was not the best it could go. I should say at this point, I drive manually for overmore than 10 years, although at the different side of the road.
Then I was told I couldn't drive and that they would fully reimburse me for the rent, as they would not rent me any vehicle, nor give an replacement van.
They dropped me of at the picking up station and I was initially told to go to the bus and try to find accommodation for the night in the city.
I found this really distressing, it was after 17.00 pm and I was essentially just hoping some hotel had a spot to take me in for the same night.
Although the guy who told me this was telling me nicely, the way I was treated was really rude. At that moment, I was shocked and panicking because I now had to find somehow a place to stay for the night.
They then did pick me up at the bus stop and told me I could sleep in a van for the night and that somebody would call me the day after. Having no other option, I did, and in the morning I left. By then there was no other solution offered, they only told me I would be called bij their customer service.
I left, and arranged for another van with another compagny, which I picked up the same day, thanks to help from friends. This other van, also manually, cost a lot more, but I had no other option.
The costumer service from Spaceships offered another vehicle later that day, if I would pay £2,000 damage deposit for it.
Since I felt I had a unsafe, rude and sexist experience, I declined, and asked fro my money back. They did so, eventually.
And I drove the other manually geared van from another compagny for the remainder of my time there, without any problems.
This experience with Spaceship Rentals was really bad and in the end costed also a lot of money, since I had to find another accommodation on the spot. I can't recommend this compagny, as I felt unsafe and felt they treated me badly.
I doubted to write a review, but this went really bad and I want to warn fellow solo female travellers.

-It is true that my first hire was an automatic, and this second was a manual.
And it is also true that before hiring the van I've had more than ten year of active drivers experience with a manual car, and after the experience with spaceships, I drove around in another manual campervan for the remainder of my holiday without troubles.
Also true: no clutch/ manual gear problems with all the cars I drove before or after.
-The collegue that arrived did not ask for an demonstration or mentioned that the clutch was broken, he just asked me to drive his vehicle without explanation.
-The replacement with disposit was only offered the day after, not on the same day, hours after I left. If you look back in your emails, you'll find that information in your own answer.
When I left the following day/the day after, I talked to the person at the location, and nothing was offered, there was only stated that I would recieve a phonecall from customer service. Because the day before was clearly stated by this person that no hire would be possible, I left.
-I would not call it 'going an extra mile' if you tell your clients they have to find accomodations elsewhere for the same night, even tell them which bus to take, and only after they left and went to the busstop, only then you decide to step in and offer a accommodation for the night.
-You're well in your right to decide if you want to hire something to someone or not. However, this review reflects my overall experience with your compagny. Unfortunatly, the way this situation was handled was far from a positive experience. I would not recommend it to any solo traveller.

For me it felt unsafe to be sended away without accommodation for the night and not to be told what was wrong in the first place.This I shared at the time. To be clear on the sexist title, I felt then and still feel strongly I was treated as I was because I am a woman. The fact that it was not meant as unsafe or as condecending doesn't mean that it was'nt.

Firstly, may we apologise if you felt that our handling of your breakdown was in any way sexist or unsafe. We absolutely refute this: in fact we don't see how we could have done more to offer you a highly personalised service.
Your previous Spaceships hire was an automatic. The hire your review refers to was a manual. Like all our vehicles, it had a multi-point check before collection, and the clutch was tested and was working fine.
You called only a short time and distance from pick up saying there was a problem with the clutch. Rather than you wait for our third party roadside assistant partner, once we established you were in a safe place with the vehicle, a member of our Edinburgh branch team actually personally went out to your location to help you.
On inspection of the vehicle, unfortunately it was apparent that you had burnt out the clutch since collecting earlier. As we explained in our emails at the time, our prime concern was for your personal safety and the welfare of the vehicle.
Our colleague then asked you to demonstrate how you were driving by driving the vehicle in which he attended the breakdown. It was also a manual vehicle. As you will recall, you were attempting to start the vehicle in third gear and riding the clutch, which was how it had burned out.
We were reluctant to provide a replacement vehicle on this basis as we were concerned the same problem would occur. We offered you a refund of the rental, insurance and extra items, eventhough we would be unable to re-hire the vehicle, and in fact would have to undertake an expensive repair. We did not make any charges to you for the repair or recovery of the vehicle.
You stated that you had experience of driving a manual, so on that basis and despite our concerns, we offerred you a replacement vehicle, but with a £2,000 damage deposit. This is not taken from your account, but held on a card and refunded when the vehicle is returned undamaged. You rejected that option and asked to take the refund. My colleague then explained, as you say, "nicely" that you would need to get alternative accommodation if you didn't want the replacement vehicle.
Following your email regarding this, the same colleague then picked you up at the bus stop where you were returning to Edinburgh city centre and made the campervan available for you to spend the night at the branch. The refund for the remainder of your hire was made to you.
I hope you can agree that under the circumstances we went the extra mile to help you, gave you a choice of two options to consider and refunded your rental, losing that money and paying for the clutch replacement.
We have literally hundreds of solo female and male travellers who take-off in a Spaceship to explore the UK and Europe. We welcome all customers and encourage and celebrate their spirit of independence, adventure and travel.

Apologies if I got the chronology wrong. The facts remain we offered you two options, refund or replacement with damage deposit, were at no time sexist, did not leave you unsafe, tried to help you, refunded your rental, enabled you to sleep that night in a campervan and did not charge for recovery or repairs.

Rentamos el Luxury Motorhome por 10 días para viajar por las Highlands. Muy cómodo para una familia de 4. Pudimos cocinar, dormir muy bien y afortunadamente no tuvimos ningún inconveniente mecánico. A tener en cuenta si viajas en invierno, investigar donde cargar gas porque con el uso de la calefacción la garrafa dura unos 3 o 4 días. Pasamos noches de -5° y adentro del motorhome estábamos muy calentitos. Gracias Spaceships!

Estamos encantados de que hayas disfrutado de un fantástico viaje familiar por las Tierras Altas de Escocia en tu nave espacial y de que hayas estado abrigado en esas frías noches de invierno. La calefacción de las autocaravanas es genial.
