Help centre staff are lovely, very helpful and really know their stuff, though that’s probably down to the following..
Using the web portal is unintuitive and feels old fashioned. Needs a bit of a revamp.
Maybe its one of those things where you have to be a frequent flyer to get the hang of it.

Have had my deposits held with SDS for about 7 years now and have always had my money returned to me in a timely manner. Had a slight confusion with my latest deposit as I'd had duplicate accounts, phoned them up and Zee managed to get everything sorted within 10 minutes. He was patient on the phone with me and explained everything that was going on, very grateful for his help!

I take one star off as the process of deposit sispute and timelines isn't as clearly explained as it could have been.
However, thanks to this scheme I was able to get my deposit back! Otherwise, the landlord was a money leech blamiing me for his poor flat maintenance. Old washing machine broke of old age - my fault, poorly installed blinds fell down and broke - my fault, etc. Lickily, he didn't provide sufficient move in or move out reports and his claims towards my deposit were all rejected :)

Shereen is very kind and giving me helpful suggestions. He also helps me to solve my problem on registeration.

I telephoned and spoke with a very polite young guy ZEESHAN as I had some queries which he helped me with before my end of tenancy.

I received fantastic support from Casey Sutherland. From the start, he was friendly, professional, and very positive, which immediately made the experience pleasant.
He quickly resolved my issue and didn’t just stop there. He took the extra step of ensuring my query was fully processed on the spot, even though after unblocking my account I could technically have done it myself. That level of care and initiative really stood out to me.

Thank you to SafeDeposits Scotland for maintaining a neutral position during my dispute with my former landlord and property agency.

I had had a fairly good relationship with both the agency and the landlord, so when they requested a large cleaning fee, I felt completely lost and did not know what I could do.

I called SafeDeposits Scotland for advice. They quickly reminded me of my rights. They also understood how shocking the situation was for me, while explaining that they could only help within the limits of their neutral role.

Through their website, I learnt how much effort SafeDeposits Scotland puts into educating landlords and property agents about deducting deposits based on evidence. This became a major source of guidance when I compiled my evidence.

I realised that the agency and landlord needed to show clear evidence, such as a schedule of condition, to prove that the flat had been cleaner and tidier when given to me than when I returned it. I asked them for evidence. It became clear that the flat had not been properly cleaned or tidied before I moved in; otherwise, I would not have had to spend so much time cleaning it at the start.

SafeDeposits Scotland provided me with a safe platform to submit my evidence and allowed an adjudicator to review the case and make a decision.

To me, the adjudicator’s decision was very important. It gave official confirmation that I had been a responsible tenant who left the flat clean and tidy.

Now I can share my experience with other tenants: we can learn to protect our rights while still looking after the flats we rent.
