RSPB Arvostelua 

​The RSPB claims to protect wild birds, but they completely ignore the brutal, routine culling of pigeons by corporate partners like ScotRail. Corporate funding shouldn't buy a pass on animal welfare. Pigeons are wild birds too, and ignoring their horrific treatment while taking corporate money destroys this charity's credibility. Stand up for ALL birds, or stop claiming to represent them.

My wife and I followed the signs to RSPB Bempton Cliffs near Bridlington having never been to a RSPB location before. After parking we walked towards the visitor hub (daft name) and as we were just about to walk onto the footpath to the cliffs a guy appeared in front of us blocking our way. He asked if we were RSPB members and when we said no he started a well-rehearsed sales pitch which basically meant we could not get to the cliffs without being members. How mean is that? As we had no intention of giving into his boring blackmail we said we would go and have a drink in the cafe. That was until we saw the price of tea (over £3) and coffee (nearly £4) so we just sat outside to recover. A visitor nearby had just bought a tea and it wasn’t even a full cup (paper). The next time we go we will walk from Thornwick Bay along the coastal footpath to the Bempton Cliffs and if we’re approached by one of the volunteers at the viewpoints they will be told to get lost and leave us alone. Enough said!

Just cancelled my subscription. I informed RSPB of a hyper scale data centre planned for the Lammermuir hills near Duns Scottish Borders. There are ground nesting Curlews, Lapwings, Oyster Catchers and Osprey as well as an abundance of migratory birds who need the peace and quiet for rest. I was directed to the campaigns part of the website which was helpful, but we have a brilliant team of campaigners already. Other wildlife charities have been in touch and commented on our Save the Lammermuirs website offering support. Not a squeak from the RSPB. All very disappointing.

Brought easy clean suet pellet and peanut feeder . It came very poor packed the sides were bash in if I hung it up it would have been hanging at an angle . Sent email to them they won't do anything about it . The amount it costs me I expected better service than they supply .

My 85yr Mum had a pigeon in her garden with a bone sticking out of its neck and it's head hanging down, couldn't lift it's head and was just walking around like this for more than 24hrs in extreme pain and very distressed. My Mum was also distressed. Rang the RSPB for help and they just didn't want to know. I may add that I also contacted the PDSA, RSPCA and a local nature rescue centre and got the same cold response. We just wanted someone to put this poor bird out of it's misery as could not bring ourselves to do it or have the know how. I will never contribute to any of the above charity's, utter disgrace.

Consistently disappointed by the errors, misleading twisting of the truth, and sometimes outright lies I read in every single piece of output produced by the RSPB. Same goes for news articles based on one of their press releases, because these seem to regurgitate whatever the RSPB writes without any checking of facts. The problem seems to be that output comes via comms staff who usually lack the specific scientific understanding of the subject. Nothing they say can be trusted, as they don't seem to listen or care about getting anything accurate, just making it sound like a good story.

The RSPB is the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. It has the royal approval in its name. When contacting the RSPB by phone, the first thing the automated voice tells you is that if you want help or advice about sick or injured wild birds, you should look elsewhere. They have nothing to advize. They wont talk to you, they are not interested. This is a business, not a charity, and should have its royal title removed.

We bought a Nestera birdbox with camera and solar panel through the RSPB. It is advertised as allowing you to have a system that will be self-charging, allowing you to watch nesting birds without a mains connection. It doesn't work like that. The solar panel/battery system is not adequate, so when there is a lot of activity in the box - which is exactly when you want to view it - it goes off line. Nestera customer service says take the panel indoors and recharge it overnight, and to do that several times. Having to mains charge the panel is not a viable solution and should not be necessary if the panel/battery were up to the job. Sadly, this expensive product doesn't meet the claims Nestera and RSPB make for it.

How can you justify being partnered with a company that shoots pigeons and destroys their nests and babies? These are living animals, not disposable pests.

You’re supposed to protect birds, not be associated with organisations that kill them for convenience. It completely undermines everything you claim to stand for.

If this is what your partnerships look like, then what does “protection” even mean?

This is extremely disappointing and unacceptable.

Ordered Bird food- mealworms, peanuts and fat pellets- a number of times from their shop and it's always good quality if a bit pricy. Fat balls with mealworms have attracted Woodpeckers as well as the usual varieties.

Pretty useless lot. The information at Newport is incomplete on their website. They have no active local groups to get involved, or if they do it is kept very quiet. You ask a question on their facebook feed and nobody bothers to reply.
If education is part of their remit, they are failing miserably, so I quit.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the RSPB, the great magazine, free access to 170 wildlife reserves all while knowing that I am supporting the conservation of nature.

I tried to buy Christmas cards but the site would not let me pay!

Absolutely appalling. I will never order from RSPB again. Sadly they choose to use DPD for their deliveries. It will surprise nobody who has been unfortunate enough to have been at the rough end of their service to believe that they didn’t deliver, said they had tried to which was a lie. I was in and Reception in my apartment block was open but they took it took a local store for me to collect. I’m 80 and disabled so that isn’t possible. On phoning RSPB the upshot is I will have to wait literally weeks for a refund as they can’t guarantee to use a different delivery service so I have to wait for my order to be returned to them (probably about 2 weeks) then another 5-10 days at best for my refund to be arrant. Absolutely unacceptable and I will never order from RSPB again and advise others not to.

I ordered two packets of ten Christmas cards that were £5 each with a delivery charge of 3.95. Only one packet of cards arrived. I called customer services and was advised that as the other pack were out of stock I would be refunded for them. I asked whether they could just send me another pack of the same cards, however was told I would need to reorder if I wanted more. So I have paid £9 for ten Christmas cards, the most expensive packet that I have ever bought!

Appalling! Items not despatched to arrive in time frame stated. Still not despatched. You're not actually buying from RSPB, although led to believe you are. Teemills is the company - don't reply to messages.

We spend time after a long day talking to a volunteer recruiter who was touting hard for money. Sadly, the person knew nothing about local farming practices, had total disdain for our farming community and mocked in a patrionising way our attempts to explain how sustainable our methods are. Disputed that dry stone walls help all wildlife and are the most sustainable way to build boundaries. When you send volunteers from the south, remember that in the north we have managed our farms in a timeless tradition and very little is "new" or unique to the area. And yes we do see at least one bird of prey every day (Merlins, buzzards, sparrow hawks, goshawks).
