New Homes Law were great throughout our house purchase. A huge thank you to Ruben and Kerry, who were so helpful from start to finish. They were always quick to reply, kept everything moving, and thanks to their hard work we completed on our house in just two months! Any questions we had were answered really quickly, and they always took the time to explain things if we weren’t sure. We’d heard so many stories about house purchases taking months because of slow communication, but that definitely wasn’t our experience. I wouldn’t recommend New Homes Law to anyone. In fact I’d advise people against using them.
They definitely delayed my exchange and completion. In the end I was emailing daily asking when I could complete.
Poor communication, emails would go unanswered. Calls would take 2/3 times before I’d get through to someone.
I’m unsure if my solicitor was real. She wouldn’t reply to my emails other people would and whenever I called she was never available and it would always be someone else I spoke to. If they called me it was always someone else.
I was quoted just under £2000. The day before I completed my final invoice I ended up being charged almost double that. I emailed questioning it and asking why my quote was so much lower. Email ignored. Nobody answering the phone. It was less than 24 hours before I completed so I had to pay or I wouldn’t have been able to complete. That email still hasn’t been answers and it’s been 5 days. I don’t hold my breath. So many of my emails were ignored. I was told £100 off if I signed with them.. that wasn’t on my final invoice either.
I had a LISA. There was an issue with the address when they submitted to withdraw it. My bank the LISA was with emailed them the same day to tell them this. 18 days later the money was still in my account. I called the LISA people because New Homes Law just kept saying we’ve not heard from them and they told me the issue and how they’d emailed 18 days prior and heard nothing. I sorted the address and then it went through. That could have been done 18 days earlier.
I also got an email asking for the remainder of my deposit to be sent over. Then got a panic email from someone else saying Don’t send us any money your money laundering check hasn’t been completed so I didn’t send the money.
Three weeks later I’m being chased for my deposit but nobody had told me to send the money since I was told not to send the money.
Another example of the poor communication was an enquiry regarding fibre optic, which delayed our exchange. I received an email saying we were waiting for the seller’s solicitors to respond before we could proceed, despite never having been told that this enquiry had been raised.I replied asking what they meant by “fibre optic”. Another solicitor at New Homes Law responded that they thought the query had come from me and would need to check. It later transpired that the enquiry had actually been raised by another solicitor at New Homes Law on my behalf. I have no issue with solicitors raising enquiries where necessary. However, I was concerned that the solicitor corresponding with me didn’t know who had raised the enquiry and initially assumed it had come from me. This demonstrated a lack of communication within the team and contributed to delaying our exchange.To this day, I have never even been told what the outcome of that enquiry was or whether the concern was resolved.

New Homes Law made my move so much more stressful. They definitely are the reason completion took so much longer.

Following my property purchase, I complained to the Legal Ombudsman about New Homes Law's poor service, communication and repeated broken promises. The firm agreed, through the Legal Ombudsman, to pay me £200 in settlement. I provided my bank details on 25 June and, at the firm’s insistence, signed a statement confirming the complaint was 'dismissed', not 'settled' and 'upheld' - terms used by the ombudsman. Despite this, the agreed payment was not made within the 14-day timeframe set by the Legal Ombudsman. After I had to chase both the firm and the Legal Ombudsman, the firm contacted me again to reconfirm my bank details, despite already having them. Payment was still not made on time, over one week later.
In my experience, the way the settlement itself was handled reflected the same poor communication and unnecessary delays that led to my original complaint. While the compensation was eventually agreed, I was disappointed that I had to continue chasing the firm even after the Legal Ombudsman became involved.
