Woeful
Promise vs. Reality
When I interviewed for this position, I was captivated by the CEO's inspiring vision of transforming the care sector through innovative technology. The promise of helping a company transition from analog processes to tech-enabled care resonated deeply with me. While the onboarding process was thorough (if somewhat intensive), my enthusiasm remained high.
Unfortunately, reality quickly diverged from this promising vision.
Understaffing and False Promises
I soon discovered I was essentially performing the work of 3-4 people, with assurances that a recruitment drive would alleviate this burden. After interviewing candidates and extending offers, all new hires were abruptly canceled at the last minute. This pattern of impulsive decision-making proved to be the organization's standard operating procedure.
Strategic Vacuum
Despite my extensive experience helping healthcare organizations transition to technology-first operations, I was shocked by this company's approach. There was no coherent strategy—or if one existed, it would change overnight. The leadership consistently prioritized tactics over strategy, rushing towards end goals without developing appropriate approaches. For an organization of this size, the lack of planning and accountability was astonishing.
Toxic Leadership Culture
Most concerning was the complete absence of trust between the senior leadership team and the board. While the senior team included talented professionals (most of whom have since departed through redundancy or settlement agreements), their ability to implement change was severely restricted by three dominant board directors who remained disconnected from day-to-day operations yet demanded absolute compliance.
The culture of fear was perpetuated by a leadership style that mimicked Elon Musk's worst attributes without the vision. Leaders in title only, they dictated rather than led, dismissing the expertise of the very professionals they had recruited. Senior staff turnover was remarkably high, with talented replacements quickly discovering they too could not effect meaningful change in an environment that valued obedience over innovation.
Financial Hypocrisy
The company did offer competitive salaries, but this hardly compensated for the negative impact on wellbeing. The constant refrain that work was "not good enough" and that departments or individuals were "not up to it" created a toxic atmosphere.
The final revelation came when the company announced record turnover of £300 million and nearly £100 million in profit, paying £46 million in dividends—while simultaneously canceling staff bonuses citing "challenging trading conditions" and implementing significant redundancies. No action could have more effectively destroyed staff morale and trust.

Don't waste people's time if you aren't going to employ them
After being informed that I had passed the initial interview, I completed all the necessary steps, including my training. However, Newcross kept me waiting for up to three months, repeatedly making excuses about references while failing to reach out to me. I had to initiate contact every time, only to hear the same response: "I will put a note down for them to update you." Yet, no updates ever came. Eventually, I grew frustrated and asked them to withdraw my application. The mental distress this process caused me with Newcross is truly disappointing.
