I ordered a pair of shoes from Herring Shoes for my wedding, and the experience was disappointing

A couple of days before my wedding, I luckily took my shoes to my suit tailor for a final fitting, only to discover that Herring had sent me two shoes in completely different sizes.

Had I not checked, I could have flown out to my destination wedding completely unaware and ended up with two different-sized shoes on.

What made the situation even more frustrating was the customer service. When I called to explain what had happened, there was very little apology or sympathy for the situation they'd put me in. The response was essentially, "yeah give us your details and we'll give you a refund," as though that somehow made everything okay.

Mistakes happen, but it's how a company handles them that really matters.

Sending two different-sized shoes in the same order is a pretty basic mistake that should have been caught before dispatch.

To make matters worse, I had paid extra for expedited delivery, which wasn't refunded. So I effectively ended up out of pocket for the privilege of being sent the wrong shoes and having to return them.

Purchased a Herring Foxton Zip Jumper by Peregrine in oatmeal.
After looking all over internet for that style, quality and merino wool, I found this.
It is a quality well fitting item at a fabulous price.
Very pleased.

I ordered the St George loafers in 9.5 F, the size that fits me in every other pair of shoes I own. I have never had a pair of size 9.5 shoes fit this loosely. They were unwearably big. The product page described the fit as standard, with no warning that this style comes up long.

I returned them unworn the same week, choosing Special Delivery at £16.55. Herring agreed to refund the shoes once received, but refused to reimburse the return postage, even after I explained the fit issue.

What really annoyed me was the response. Instead of addressing my experience, I received a lengthy explanation that there is no such thing as "true to size" and that sizing varies between brands and styles. I found it dismissive and completely unhelpful.

They also told me they offer a £3 returns label at checkout. I didn't see that option when ordering and would have taken it if I had.

I am now £16.55 out of pocket for an unworn pair of shoes that fitted nothing like my usual size. Agreeing to refund the shoes does not make the rest of this a good customer experience. Thoroughly disappointed, and I won't be ordering from Herring again.

Unfortunately I would avoid purchasing from this company unless you know the boots fit you. The sizing is so problematic I would just avoid. They say they are customer focused but the response to my sizing issue was one of being completely none plussed. Buyer beware!!

Ordered a pair of handmade Loake oxfords from Greece. The site mentioned that the price is inclusive of EU customs duties, and they indeed delivered! A pleasure being able to order from the UK again post-brexit. Ah, and perfect customer service, fair prices and prompt shipping.

Very disappointed with Herringshoes return policy, not only you have to pay to return your item, they will charge you the original delivery cost and refund the rest.
Buying shoes online is a very tricky by its nature as they won't be suitable for every feet size and shape especially when it comes to formal shoes. As far as I have seen all other online shoe shops cover the cost of returns let alone the original shipping cost.
One word,
Disappointed!

It's the best store I've ever been to, and I've been to many since I buy almost everything online. The customer service, friendliness, problem-solving skills, and ease of returns are exceptional. They carry the best brands.

Probably a high volume provider so may attract different reviews which I respect. My experience of customer recovery was brilliant. Amazing swift customer service and resolution. Weigh up the reviews yourself. Reliable and trustworthy in my view. Oh…great shoes too.

Dreadful Quality and Unprofessional management
These shoes are dreadful. I purchased a pair of Herring Carnaby shoes about 18 months ago. After approximately 4 months a fault appeared on the toe. I reported this to Herring and dealt with their Customer Adviser to whom I sent a photograph of the fault.
The advice I received was that the shoes could do with a good clean and to use restorative products. Even though such advice was ridiculous with the shoes being less than four months old and only worn on a limited number of occasions, I followed the advice but to no effect.
The Customer Adviser was, in my opinion rude with limited communication skills so I referred the matter to the MD who proved to be another with similar qualities. His email was extremely unprofessional and used the same unacceptable language as the Adviser. The MD then decided that Herring would offer no assistance whatsoever.
The shoes were never physically examined. I offered to return the shoes but instead they relied upon the photograph. Over the next year the shoes were worn on occasional outings but the shoe which previously had the fault faded so that there was a noticeable difference between the colour of the left and right shoes, with the original fault remaining. Then, they actually fell apart with the heel becoming detached from the shoe. What a waste of money.

Exceptional customer service throughout, thank you Chris and Tony. Great quality, very soft leather, and surprisingly lightweight for size 11 boots. I know where I’m getting my shoes from now on.

Ordered a pair of Barker Sutton Chelsea boots great boots excellent fit. Fast dispatch great service from Herringshoes highly recommended this company these will be my first choice when requiring any new shoes.

Great shoes. Nice attractive and premium box that also comes with a tin of shoe polish and as expected with premium shoes a shoe horn and dust bags. I did find however, that you should not have to pay for shipping on a premium brand, and especially not having to pay more for a return label. Secondly there needs options to deliver to a collection point like other retailers.

I was looking for a variety on the Paraboots which is hard to find in London other than the "Michael". I purchased the Avignon and the shoes are delivered, fit great and exactly as I would like 5/5.

The real positive experience starts after. Initially the DHL delivery had a hiccup in their systems and Chris and co-workers were on it right away, they managed to resolve the issue. I later rang Herring shoes to discuss a concern and again, Chris was very reasonable and supported me through my concern. I wish every company would hire logical, self-aware and well spoken employees 5/5 for customer service. Would 100% recommend and would shop there again.
