Absolutely disgusting service waiting 15mins for a bus to get you to get the car and to find there 40 people in front of you never again
Terrible! My sister and I picked up a hire car to travel around Ireland, which we were told at the desk was an ‘upgrade’! No idea what it was upgraded from but we had issue after issue. The engine management light came on after we left the airport, the tyre pressure light came on, the warning sign for low battery on the fob came on. We were told we could do the tyre pressures and replace the battery ourselves! Then we got what we thought was a parking ticket, but no, it wasn’t a parking ticket at all it was a notice that the car wasn’t taxed!!!
On returning the car there was zero apology, they just took the keys and said you can go now!!! Never again will I hire a car from Europcar no matter what airport I fly into, the booking was under my sister’s name, we both agreed to write this review

The person who served me was pleasant, but the manager was rude and had no time for me. I will not use you again

Charged EUR326 in total for repair of a hairline light scratch on the car which took the assessor several goes walking around it and cloth rubbing to locate & identify, probably there on exit anyway. Excessive & unreasonable overcharge for the level of "damage" identified.

I have been renting cars for many years and this is the first time I have faced such charges. The damage was allegedly found during post-return inspection.
I have formally disputed both charges.
I feel misled and disappointed by this experience. I would caution other renters to photograph every inch of the vehicle at pick-up and drop-off, and to ensure everything is signed off clearly before leaving the location.

This is fir Dublin airport only, I've found them to be really good at Knock and Shannon. But Dublin is chaos, never enough staff to deal with the crowds. You'll be waiting 30-45 mins on a normal weekday, more early or at weekends. Horrible experience

A scam. Phantom charges after car was returned. Returned our deposit minus £154 and said we had agreed to premium extras that we said NO to. When contested the support team said it's a he said/she said situation and because we signed the long document, the charge will be maintained. Total trickery.

Booked a car from Friday PM to Monday PM, Excellent price with all insurance included. Friendly staff especially Ivan on front desk ( come on Croatia!)
Car was spot on and all in all a very good service and price which I am very grateful for

I hired a car and on the third day the engine seized. The AA attended and towed the car away. At no stage was I offered a new hire car to replace the first car. When I eventually spoke to a rep. He gave me email address for the manager at Shannon airport. I duly emailed him and requested a refund. Two weeks later I have heard nothing from the company except when somebody rang me and asked me to return the car two weeks later. Awful company never again.

Rented a car in dublin 3 june to return to sligo on the 10th.the steering avoidance system made it unsafe to drive. I took it back on the 5th to sligo..they would not refund any of my funds..
UPDATE.
EUROPECAR gave me a full refund for the unused days, despite what the sligo car rental place told me .thank you europe car, I will do business again.mk

In my opinion this company are scammers and crooks. We rented a car last week and despite refusing extra insurance the attendant signed us up for 'Premium Insurance and Roadside Assistance' costing an extra €175. There was also an extra €55 surcharge for 'Premium Station' not identified when we booked.
A booking that was made for €161 ended up costing us €410. I feel like I have been scammed using very underhanded tactics. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE.
Followup : I cannot reply to Europcar's reply. I emailed you yesterday to both email addresses available. There is no phone based helpdesk strangely,

Good customer service initially due to the hire desk rep who's humour distracted from a frustrating 40min wait at Europcar Dublin North. The one star is due to the poor state of the Renault Arkana with 10 damage items listed including multiple scrapes and scuffs on all parts of the car and alloys. On returning the vehicle, Europcar identified a cut in a tyre wall which I can't confirm or deny was there when I collected it (I didnt undertake a detailed inspection/photographic survey). It may have been an unlucky fault during my hire period but I can't help think that I've been forced to pay for other people's wear&tear in a vehicle not fit for rental. The car return rep was unfrirendly and abrupt and it was quite clear that the customer is always wrong. We were herded away as quickly as possible so his next victim could be claimed. Is it a coincidence that multiple customers have had these experiences with this company? More than other car hirers? I dont think so. Another customer lost.

I would give 0 stars if it was an option!
Horrible experience with this company. Booked and paid a rental, including extra fees, to rent outside of business hours. I was left stranded with 4 small children for 2 hours at Europcar Derby when no one turned up. I couldn't get a response through email or phone and ended up having to pay £250 out of pocket on taxi and train. Not including the taxi fare to get from the airport to the company location!
Don't advertise and charge for a service when you can not fulfil the request!

I recently rented a car for only 3 days, I used this to get back and forth to the hotel I had to pay for petrol which I get as every petrol station was closed on the way to the airport as our flight was early and it’s a very quiet place but also apparently there was “light damage” on the rear which is not by myself and was charged €55 euros however was is shocking after they new I have premium insurance by a company called “Carhire” that is linked with them they charged me €734.58 for compensation of the damage. What a terrible service I would not recommend this company anymore and I will never be using this company again.

Classic bait-and-switch. Europcar Dublin Airport lured me in with an affordable booking rate, then did everything possible to extract more money once I arrived. The aggressive upselling started immediately. Despite declining insurance and using a major credit card, the rental agent and supervisor refused to rent me the vehicle unless I purchased their outrageously expensive insurance. They falsely claimed I needed both a letter from my credit card company and a €5,000 deposit to waive coverage. As a result, they effectively tripled the cost of my rental.
It didn't stop there. They repeatedly tried to upsell me into more expensive vehicles and would not provide the class of vehicle I originally booked. Then, upon returning the car, I was swindled again. They charged me hundreds of euros for a tiny scuff on a wheel—a minor cosmetic scratch that they clearly had no intention of repairing. This company appears to have built its business model around hidden fees, policy changes, pressure tactics, and finding excuses to charge customers more.
Horrible company. Horrible experience. I have rented cars all over the world and Europcar Dublin Airport was, without question, one of the most dishonest and predatory rental experiences I have ever encountered. Avoid at all costs.

Extremely disappointed with my experience at Europcar Dublin Airport. I was charged €220 for a tiny scratch on a wheel that I did not cause. The whole process felt unfair and questionable.
The employee who handled the vehicle return, Ric, was rude, dismissive, and highly unprofessional. Instead of treating customers with respect and explaining the situation properly, he made the experience even more frustrating.
Instead of focusing on customer service, the company seemed more interested in finding reasons to charge additional fees. This experience has convinced me to never use Europcar again. There are plenty of other car rental companies that value their customers and provide a much better service.
I strongly recommend taking detailed photos and videos of every part of the vehicle before and after rental if you decide to rent from this company.

I have rented a car with Europecar at Dublin airport.
Upon check-in, I have immediately registered unrecorded damages on the application. Nothing eventful happened with the car during the rental.
I returned the car at Dublin airport ten days later. The clerk briefly checked it and said everything looked OK.
The morning after I received an invoice for over 800€ in damage, after which I contacted Europcar again to check the picture of the damage and whether the "unrecorded damage" I submitted at check-in had been considered.
The answer email I got was a bit confusing but the conclusion, was that I was supposed to get a refund. Which never arrived.
I also never got an answer to several inquiries for update.

I had a deeply disappointing and frankly upsetting experience with Europcar at Shannon Airport.
As a pensioner, I booked what I believed was a straightforward 5-day rental (around €90). Due to an obvious mistake, the booking was instead made for just 15 minutes at a cost of €75 — something that should clearly have been flagged or questioned.
When I arrived at the desk, instead of being helped to correct this obvious error, I was told that the only way to proceed was to pay an additional €390. This was presented as my only option, under time pressure, with no reasonable alternatives offered.
At no point was I advised that I could cancel and rebook at the correct rate. In fact, we checked immediately afterwards and found the same vehicle available online for around €15–€20 per day.
I therefore ended up paying several hundred euros more than the actual going rate — not because of availability, but because the situation was handled in a way that felt entirely unfair and lacking in transparency.
I have since raised this formally with Europcar. Their response has been to rely on the fact that I signed a contract at the desk, and to offer just €50 as a “goodwill gesture.” This does not come close to addressing what happened.
I fully accept that a mistake was made in the booking. However, what matters is how a company treats its customers when something goes wrong. In this case, I feel I was not treated fairly, not given clear options, and not supported in resolving an obvious error.
This experience has left me seriously concerned about how customers — particularly older or more vulnerable ones — may be treated in similar situations.
I would strongly advise others to be extremely cautious and double-check everything before arriving at the desk.
