Very disappointing experience with this insurance company.

My initial claim was declined, and I had to contact my dentist several times as the claim was repeatedly rejected for different reasons.

More recently, I submitted two separate claims for treatments received on different dates and provided statement from my dentist as supporting evidence. However, the insurer requested additional confirmation from the dental practice to verify that the payments were made on different dates.

I find it concerning that the insurer does not appear to accept the documentation already provided by the dental surgery. Despite submitting the required evidence, my claims were rejected outright.

Based on my experience, I would advise others to carefully review the policy terms and claims process before choosing this insurer.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - Currently been titrated for a medical condition, Unum denied claim, didn't even quote my specialist, just said GP records didn't indicate anything - yet specialist was very clear.

It appears that the Unum Deny and Delay tactic from the USA is coming over here.

Policies have changed to be pretty terrible vs last year. No longer worth it, 70% of my company have withdrawn from the dental plans.

5 star service from harry at Unum dental . This is the second experience ive had with the company and just great overall service . Right from the start of the call Harry was so pleasant he is fantastic at his job providing great customer service please acknowledge him call made at 10:35 as I didn’t quite get him full name for reference !☺️

Really quick to claim, easy and efficient, fast payment.

recently visited my local dentist and afterwards made my claim through the portal. The process was very easy and I was promised claim would be reviewed within 10 days. This was surpassed as my claim was approved the following day. The payment was the promised within 3-5 working days and sure enough 3 day later the funds were in my account. Excellent experience all round

Provided documents and claim was authorised and payment confirmed swiftly.

This is the second time I have used this service, its quick and simple to navigate through, very happy to report that the money that was returned to myself in super quick time, would highly recommend this to other colleges.

Submitted a claim for check up and dental cleaning, they've only paid back the check up costs and not explained why they won't cover the dental cleaning, even though this is an NHS treatment and it's clearly covered under the schedule.

Tried to call and was hung up on numerous occasions.

If they're only willing to pay check up costs, the policy is not worth the paper it's written on.

Added 2 stars as finally got through to a handler called Joe who advised system is down and promised a call back, so was helpful but will await call back before looking to amend review.

Got a call back from Joe Maundrell - absolutely fabulous, sorted out the remaining amount, explained why this had happened looked into the calls. Couldn't be happier with his service, he was helpful, pleasant and very good at his job! - he deserves 5 stars for avoiding a formal complaint by taking ownership and in my view as a customer going above and beyond to help me.

quick and easy - and authorised and refunded in a short time scale

I had a very frustrating experience with UNUM Dental when submitting a claim. Despite clearly having two separate dental issues - one for periodontitis and another for a filling—they attempted to group everything under a single “course of treatment” to limit the reimbursement.

The treatments were diagnosed on different dates and relate to completely different conditions, yet I was still asked to prove this and go back to my dentist for confirmation. This feels unnecessarily bureaucratic and puts the burden on the customer to justify something that should be straightforward.

The process lacks clarity, and the interpretation of NHS rules seems overly rigid and not in the customer’s interest. Overall, the experience has been time-consuming and disappointing.
