Well Developed Program
I enjoyed learning the R programming skills that can be used much past the research we did in this instance. The internship is also sectioned out very well allowing time for tasks and scheduling.
I really enjoyed the internship
I really enjoyed the internship! It was well organized and extremely engaging and fun’. I truly learned a lot from this internship and would highly recommend it to everyone
This was my first ever experience
This was my first ever experience doing research with a team outside of a classroom. I learned a lot on how to collaborate and think which I'm pleasantly sure will be of great use in my future as a potential doctor.
ThinkNeuro Internship
This internship gave me great research experience and allowed me to experience neurology in high school! I would highly recommend this program for those interested in pursuing neurology or looking for experience researching. While the organization could be better, the overall experience is very nice!
ThinkNeuro Program Experience
Participating in the ThinkNeuro program was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had in my life, and one I would definitely do again. What I liked most about the program was the hands-on experience with R programming, as well as the opportunity to complete our own research project alongside students who were passionate about neuroscience and mentors who were always willing to help us and answer our questions. I also really enjoyed learning more about R programming through the courses and recorded classes. My research topic was neurodegenerative diseases, which allowed me to explore various diseases in more depth, specifically Huntington's disease in my case. Without a doubt, this program develops my analytical and teamwork skills and provides a wealth of learning.
Summer bibliometrics internship as a research associate
I was with the summer bibliometrics cohort and this was my first time having any experience with not only coding/r-programming, but research as a whole, and I found it to be extremely beginner friendly. Some parts were tricky and took a while to figure out, but I think that future videos which go into a tiny bit more detail would be perfect. I was a research associate and even having never been a bibliometrics intern, I still found all the material accessible and was comprehensive and easy to break down and share with my team of interns. My group’s topic was the potential impact of oral medications meant to treat Type 2 diabetes on reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s. I 100% recommend interning with ThinkNeuro to anyone and everyone who’s interested, it’s an experience you’ll never forget!
Associate & Intern Perspectives
Hello, at the time of writing this review I am a second time intern. I also became an associate (team-lead) this cycle. I would say ThinkNeuro is a greatway to introduce students to research, the abstract writing process, and general teamwork skills. However, I would say that a drawback is that a lot of the work is student run. Depending on your perspective this could either be a positive and negative experience. On one hand, as an associate I had the power to decide what to do, how to assign my interns the work, and general workflow. But on the latter, I had to come up with how I was going to assign my interns the work by myself. I had to create the documents, templates, instructions, etc. Which could be very time consuming. Overall, the thinkNeuro experience is largely independent and can be super rewarding, however, it is a lot of work.

Great Internship! Got to develop lots of valuable skills!
I became a research associate for ThinkNeuro’s summer 2025 bibliometrics analysis cohort, after previously serving as a research intern in their Spring 2025 cohort. I was nervous at first to lead a team of interns, as it was my first time fully being in charge of a project, however the project managers and project leads all conveyed information well in a timely manner, answered my questions, and overall made it a comfortable environment where I could bring up any concerns. There were plenty of resources that were shared to facilitate us in doing research and developing our research poster. I led a research project in the Healthcare Access and Disparities topic, focusing on mental health interventions for low-income adolescent youth. I developed many valuable skills such as project management, leadership, communication, time management, organization, and critical thinking due to this internship. Although I had some inactive interns, most of my interns were diligent, hardworking, and produced quality work on time every single week. If you are interested in becoming an intern for ThinkNeuro, I highly recommend it, especially if you have no prior research experience! All of my interns had a chance to create meaningful figures using Excel and R, analyze multiple research studies, write a section for a graduate level abstract, and a section for the final poster. Being an intern will bring multiple opportunities for you to develop critical thinking skills in research and writing which is very important! I also highly recommend becoming an associate as well since it provides you an opportunity to mentor a group of interns, lead your own research project, and develop important skills that will be very beneficial in other leadership opportunities! I would definitely do this internship again! Thank you to ThinkNeuro for providing me with this experience and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them!
ThinkNeuro SU25 Internship Review
The ThinkNeuro internship has allowed me to expand my knowledge in the field of neuroscience and research. More specifically, in my cohort group, we delved into neuropharmacology, researching how gene therapy and antidepressants can help patients battling mental health illnesses. I learned and built many valuable skills, from coding through R-Programming to bibliometrics. Overall, I would do this internship again!
ThinkNeuro Summer 2025 Review
At ThinkNeuro, I had the honor of participating as a co-associate alongside a hard-working and active associate. I loved how to program was open to anyone regardless of experience since this was my first internship and allowed me to gain experience. I also enjoyed learning new R-programming skills through the lessons as well as having many resources to make the research process clear and simple.
ThinkNeuro was an incredible summer experience and opportunity
I was a summer intern at ThinkNeuro, and the experience was amazing. The first few weeks you learn R Programming and Bibliometrics, and by completing the program, you get certified for R Programming. There are daily office hours, for questions, and everybody is extremely helpful. The later portion of the internship is spent creating a research paper and poster about a chosen topic. This was my favorite part! Working with a team, you get to collaborate and do in-depth research about a topic that has to do with the brain. My research topic was centered around neuropharmacology. Overall, my experience was wonderful, and I plan on participating again!
ThinkNeuro Experience
I had the opportunity to partake in the Summer 2025 ThinkNeuro Research Internship Cohort! I worked on a neuropharmacological issue — that focuses on the psychodynamic factors of adverse PD-DDS behaviors — alongside many other talented individuals. It was a valuable experience for me, I was able to gain valuable knowledge of R and its bibliometric packages through asynchronous videos. This internship also enhanced my soft skills as I was able to work on my academic writing and critical analysis skills under the mentorship of an undergraduate student. ThinkNeuro is a great experience for those who have no prior research experience, and are looking for an experience that can open them to new opportunities! I would love to participate in this program again, and research a new topic.
ThinkNeuro
ThinkNeuro was an amazing first exposure to bibliometric research. Their R-programming academy at the start of the internship was comprehensive and they provided ample support to those of us who weren't previously well-versed in coding. All of their associates were very responsive and helpful when approached with questions or uncertainties. In addition, I found my research project to be a great exercise in research writing and data modeling, as well as being on a topic I personally find very engaging. The skills I've taken from ThinkNeuro have prepared me well to take on more research projects in the future.
I had an amazing time!
I was an Associate and I had an amazing time. I learned about leadership and time management, along with the other amazing skills this internship provides. I had support the entire way which made it a fun, and not stressful experience.
An Amazing Experience
I loved being a part of the ThinkNeuro team this summer. I had the opportunity to be an associate and create a poster about Alzheimer's disease. I loved working with the interns and other associates. I learned a lot about the overall research process.
Experience
I really liked the uniqueness of the internship, it’s an experience you can’t get anywhere else, mostly as a high school student!
Summer Intern 2025
ThinkNeuro is a very beginner friendly research experience/opportunity for high school and undergrads. This was my first experience with research. I was supported every single step of the way, from having questions about R programming to having detailed instructions to create our final product. The expectation was clear and workload was very manageable over the summer. I wished I found ThinkNeuro sooner!
ThinkNeuro Review
I enjoyed that the internship gave clear instructions on how to write a graduate-level research poster, which is particularly helpful for a high schooler who has never done research before. If given the opportunity and the time, I would do this program again. My research topic was neuroimaging techniques and analysis, which my group focusing on the connection between psychological disorders and Alzheimer's Disease. Skills that I gained for the future were that I was able to learn how to analyze scientific articles from PubMed, learned the components that go into writing a research paper / article, and also learned how to effectively work in a research group.
*Note: This experience took over the course of 2-3 months, but I just put today's (8/3/2025) date as I am still participating in the experience during that date. This experience had started at the beginning of June.
Review
Honestly, it was very group oriented and I was able to pick up everything from scratch. There are many opportunities to learn with more experienced mentors, coding help, and overall very beginner friendly.
Decent Intro Program, But Lacking Organization
I’m honestly a bit disappointed with this program, as I expected to get more out of it. Starting with the positives, the R Programming portion was excellent. Although it was challenging for me as a first-time learner, there was consistent support available through office hours and the questions channel. I gained valuable skills in R that I’m confident will help me in future projects.
However, the research portion of the internship felt very disorganized. We only had one meeting throughout the entire program, and communication was minimal. Instructions on what we were supposed to do often came late, sometimes only by the middle of the week, even though assignments were due at the end of the week. The website states that interns will complete the program with a graduate-level research abstract, but while we learned how to create one, we were not actively involved in producing the abstract for our group.
The only reason I am not giving a lower rating is because I had a week without internet access, which limited my ability to contribute to making data figures before the deadline. That was entirely my fault. I have seen others speak highly of this program and say they learned a lot, so I am especially disappointed that despite my engagement and effort, I did not gain as much as I hoped, especially given that this is a paid program.
