Mouse feces and spiders in ALL of my things. And I was told that it was a known thing in the units in the area mine is by corporate when I called to complain and an employee at the storage place itself. Then to be told I guess they need better pest control and then the worker laughed. And that was the manager of the storage place. My whole life was in that unit. I had to throw away priceless things like my both sons kindergarten work because it had mouse droppings all over it.

I had a great experience with StorageMart. From the start, their staff was incredibly helpful and made the entire rental process easy and stress-free. They took the time to walk me through the different unit sizes, helped me choose the one that best fit my needs, and even gave tips on how to maximize space. The facility itself was clean, secure, and well-maintained, with easy access whenever I needed it. I really appreciated how friendly and professional everyone was — it made a big difference. I’ve never encountered a company so willing to sacrifice thousands in revenue to enforce a $47 late fee.

Here’s my story:

For over 3.5 years, we’ve been loyal StorageMart (Hopkins, MN) customers, paying them over $7,322.59 in rent. We use Wells Fargo bill-pay to send monthly checks. On February 16, 2025, we mailed our March rent check of $208.99, unaware that they had quietly increased our rent earlier in the month. The only notice was an autopay invoice email—easy to miss due to its generic subject line.

On February 26, 2025, an employee of ours visited the StorageMart facility and was informed that the check, received before March 1, was going to be shredded because it wasn’t for the full amount. Instead of depositing the payment and requesting the difference, they chose to discard it. Why not accept the payment and notify us?

We immediately sent another check for the correct amount—$234.99—via USPS. Unfortunately, this check didn’t arrive until March 8, 2025. By this time, StorageMart had already imposed a $47 late fee on March 4, 2025, bringing the total due to $281.99. When the March 8 check arrived, they refused to deposit it, citing the missing late fee. As a result, I had now written two valid rent checks that StorageMart refused to deposit.

Over email, I appealed to have the late fee waived, considering their refusal to deposit partial checks contributed to the delay. Amy at StorageMart responded dismissively: “Well, first we don’t take partial payments.” This is demonstrably false. In the past, they have accepted partial payments when raising rents without sufficient notification. In fact, their rent increases don’t follow a yearly schedule—they occur on an irregular 275-day cycle, something I had to research for this review.

Despite escalating my concerns to both Jake and Dale Brumbaugh at their office, my appeals were denied. Left with no choice, I paid the full amount, including the late fee, and made the decision to vacate our locker. I informed my CEO that I would never do business with a company that treats its customers with such disdain.

If you’re considering renting with StorageMart, be prepared for sneaky rent hikes (typically 13% APR increases, disguised by their irregular schedule) and an unbending, customer-unfriendly approach to any billing issues.

Rebekah at the front desk is amazing she set me up quickly and was very personable and sweet the property is very well maintained and my experience has been amazing so far definitely recommend!

Bait & Switch - We rented a unit and in the 4th month when we received the invoice for the 5th month it stated there was a 15% increase charging $27 a month more (15 calendar days notice). Online it still showed the same old amounts without an increase. Matthew (StorageMart Manager of 8401 18 St, Edmonton) advised there is no contract so they can increase the price at any time and that the online price is promotional pricing, online does NOT specify that the prices are promotional only. We believe it is underhanded & deceitful to wait until people have their storage locker full of items to then increase the price significantly on individual units based on length of time rented. It is also deceitful to not inform potential customers that the initial price is promotional for only 4 months. Since then I read many reviews stating the same and spoke to other StorageMart customers that said their locker cost was increased every 4 months. A couple of people even asked if the Bait & Switch is even legal? Recommend NOT using StorageMart unless you are storing for less than 4 months.

Simon at StorageMart in Brighton (BN2 0DF) was FANtastic. He kindly listened and sought out several units that would suit my needs. He was thorough in his explanation of terms and conditions too. I am happy my stuff is stored under this roof. I must also say that Simon's good humour and excellent hair made my day! Thank you for your time and attention.

Employee Gary at the Enterprise St location is extremely rude and condescending. It's a shame that's who this company has representing them. Will never do business with storage mart again

The person who assisted us is so accommodating, cheerful and knowledgeable.

Very frustrating experience. I was quoted a unit for $39/month and noticed that the lease document sent over to me stated $69. I tried contacting the storage facility and they will not honor what they quoted to me via phone. Regional manager stated he listened to the call and that I was mistaken. I've asked if I could listen to the phone recording with them and they refused. I am a very thorough person so I know for a fact that I would've asked and confirmed every little detail INCLUDING MONTHLY PRICE prior to providing them payment information.

When we first got our storage unit everything was ok until we changed to a smaller unit. They unlawfully took money from my checking account to pay another month for the unit we moved out of. They said they would return the money and did not.
Next instead of transferring the renters insurance info they decided to charge me 24.97 for a protection plan on a $19 a month unit bringing the price to over $45. We are forced to find another storage company.

Stuart was great. Booked last minute (on the day) and chose a room too small (my fault) but Stuart sorted a larger unit no problems whatsoever. Access was fine, unit was fine. Paper work etc was a breeze.

I found storage mart when I was looking for storage, and paid online. After my card payment went through it was 65.86 and not 29.50! Then I tried to immediately cancel because that was double what I expected and they said I might be able to get my money back! Might??!! They gave the local number and they haven't answered me at all. Horrible experience!

Stephanie at the Regina airport's storage mart location is beyond excellent. She is so personable, friendly, efficient and walked me through the steps (basic but nonetheless, very helpful). This person is absolutely delightful and does her job very well. Thank you Stephanie.

I had a storage unit here for approximately 2 years. I didn't even go into it for a year and thought it would be all a destroyed disaster being it was an outside end unit! To my suprise all my belongings are in prefect condition! I only had one Christmas decoration chewed by a mouse (which I also found right next to it! LoL) and my antique metal chest has some more rust from condensation but that is to be expected.
In my eyes that is pretty amazing!! Thank you Joanne for being so pleasant and happy every time we spoke, you are such a treat and a ray of sunshine to deal with! You truly are a great lady and if is was not for your kindness and compassion to start with, I may have rented from somewhere else. I'm so glad I decided to use StorageMart in Milton!
