Shurgard Self Storage - Chingford Highams Park Arvostelua 

I had an excellent experience in Chingford Shurgard thanks to the outstanding service I received from Lukas. I needed some boxes for my upcoming house move. Lukas was incredibly helpful, professional, and knowledgeable throughout the whole process, making everything straightforward and stress-free.

He is a real credit to the company, and his friendly, customer-focused approach made all the difference. I'm very pleased I chose to visit this store instead of ordering boxes online and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

Easy on line booking . Great price. Helpful staff, easy instructions to follow.Had been to to unit and deposit ed boxes within hours. Love the app. that opens all barriers.🤩

A good experience, though some things I prefer at rivals (e.g. Big Yellow).

PROS
* Great £1 First Month Intro offer.
* App Access makes it simple
* Good locations

CONS
* The facilities seem more "squashed" in compared to places like Big Yellow
* The trolleys are quite small - at Big Yellow they have more variety in trolley types and they're bigger
* May seem minor, but the only working toilets are in the customer services office, which has different opening hours to the storage site (unless I missed a way of accessing it)
* Could do with more parking spaces outside the units
* The cylinder key thing was a bit annoying - £14 for a lock, I probably won't be able to use anywhere else... Using combination padlocks like at Big Yellow I personally found much better.

WOULD I USE AGAIN?
Yeah, I'd still use again.

When you make reservation online is fine. But once you are at the unit, the app dont work properly, no one follow you to the right building, place has not enough signs and still missing more people to assist clients!!!!

No trolleys !

I’ve been 3 occasions- on the final visit I found a trolly

It’s impossible to use the facility without a trolly - will leave if this does not improve

Really easy to set up and move in. The customer service at the store (7th October) was so helpful and friendly. Efficient and effective. Happy to be back with Shurgard Highams Park

Receptionist was extremely patient and helpful as I am not great with apps and automated systems. Once I had mastered things everything is just what we need to store things relatively short term whilst preparing to move house.

Firstly, and the only reason it’s not one star, is that the people are lovely, both on the phone and on site.

However, my check-in day consisted of failed access and being turned away, and numerous phone calls to support.

It’s easier to bullet point my day one problems:

- Arrived on check-in day and nobody was on site (so I thought)
- the app didn’t allow me to log-in
- support told me it was a known IT issue and I would be called back. After 30 minutes waiting I had to drive back home with all my things.
- hours later, no contact, so I called back.
- next person told me there was somebody on site all along (prior phone call told me nobody was there)
- they then managed to get me app access with a temporary solution (why didn’t the first person I spoke to do this? and save me a trip back home?)
- the app started working, but I don’t have an access email (still don’t) - was told this was another IT problem. I’ve given up trying.
- finally got on site, but the lift wouldn’t work. Had to call on-site for help.
- got to locker. I was given a cylinder lock not a padlock (as id requested), meaning it is effectively useless anywhere other than Shurgard. £15 for a lock I could buy for £3 is poor.
- the door to elevator room is broken and jams open. Security risk.

Overall, Shurgard made an already stressful moving day even worse and considerably delayed. Will be cancelling my contract at the end of my first month.

Dear Shurgard Self Storage,

On 13th August 2025, I discovered that my self-storage unit at Shurgard Highams Park had been accessed without my knowledge.

Inside, I found:
- Items that do not belong to me - including ammunition (!!).
- My own belongings had been moved and rearranged.
- Evidence of tampering with the ceiling tiles above my unit, suggesting access from above.

I immediately reported the matter to the police and raised it with Shurgard.

Shurgard later confirmed to me in writing that “we had a few customers confirming that somebody accessed their units”.

This is not an isolated incident.

Public reports on Facebook and Google Reviews show similar break-ins have been happening at this location since at least 2023, particularly on the first floor.

Despite this, customers (including myself) were never warned about these repeated breaches, and no clear action appears to have been taken to reinforce security or protect stored belongings.

This raises serious questions:
- Why were customers not informed of known break-ins?
- Why were no immediate security upgrades put in place despite repeated incidents?
- How can a company storing people’s possessions, and now, it seems, dangerous items, fail to notify affected customers and the wider public?

I am pursuing this matter through the police, my solicitor, and Shurgard’s complaints process. I believe other customers and the public have the right to be aware of these issues.

If you store your belongings at Shurgard, especially at Highams Park, I would strongly urge you to check your unit and demand full security assurances from management.

Edit - 23/08: Since my review, I have been through my belongings and found items have been stolen and irreplaceable items have been damaged beyond repair. Shurgard commented on my review five days ago to say that the store manager would be in contact, and I have yet to hear from them in that time. I have raised this matter with a local councillor as well as media outlets, as this needs investigation as to why a secure storage unit has so many break-ins.

We are shortly moving and needed some temporary storage for several months. We were very impressed with the clean, secure, facilities, including ease of parking at Highams Park. Cin was on reception. He was excellent. Very patient, helpful and answered all our queries. Showed as an empty unit. Advised us on sizes in accordance with our needs. I fully recommend Shurgard Highams Park (I have not visited any other locations but I am sure they will all be equally as good).9

Easy to set up and price discounts

Right time, best place as its location is near. I was dealt with professionally by your staff (you have his name) with clear understanding of space, location that I need with ease and consideration. Great value for money. Strongly recommend the company.

Very helpful and efficient store manager. Took her time to answer our queries and show us around the facility.

4pm on a Saturday and no one around to help in person or on the phone. Everything works via an app but my code was set up incorrectly so I couldn't access the room. And not a single person to speak to. Ridiculous.

Staff are friendly and helpful. The unit itself seems very safe, good access hours and very affordable. Not really any reason not to like it.

It was very easy and quick to book, kind and helpful staff, giving all advice and directions for storage units.
Overall it has been a easy and trouble free experience.
