Quechuas Expeditions Arvostelua 

I booked a 4-day Amazon forest trip through them, but unfortunately it was not what I expected. It felt like 4 days of vacation wasted.

We stayed in a forest lodge that was only about one hour from the city, so it didn’t really feel like the Amazon rainforest. It was close to towns and villages, and most of the tours were just short walks around the lodge—morning and evening—with a guide. To me, it felt quite underwhelming and disappointing.

We also had two excursions: Monkey Island and a butterfly place. Both were disappointing. Monkey Island was just a small rescue center where a few monkeys are kept—you basically see them like in a zoo. The butterfly place was like a small school project, with a tiny greenhouse where maybe 4–5 butterflies were flying around in a very small space.

The lodge was all-inclusive. Breakfast was mostly omelets and basic coffee—surprisingly something like Arabic coffee, even though we were in the Amazon. I would have preferred local Peruvian organic coffee. Lunch and dinner were mainly chicken and fish. The food tasted good, but it didn’t feel very local. I asked them to serve local food one day, and they did—that was actually one of the few highlights.

The only time I really enjoyed the trip was during a boat tour on the lake, which was beautiful.

The tour guide had poor English and talked too much, often very loudly, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the experience.

Overall, this was not the Amazon experience I was hoping for. I would instead recommend going to Iquitos, staying at a proper forest lodge, and experiencing a more authentic Amazon lifestyle. Don’t buy this kind of packaged tour.

El pasado 4 de agosto iniciamos nuestro tour de 2 días por el Salkantay durmiendo en el Sky Lodge. Contratamos esta experiencia con esta empresa porque aseguraron que no tendríamos problemas con mis intolerancias alimentarias y en su web aseguran que no pasarás hambre.
1. ESTA EMPRESA NO TIENE PROTOCOLO DE EMERGENCIA: Lo más grave de todo es que el guía no dio las indicaciones médicas necesarias durante el ascenso a la laguna Humantay. Estuve ascendiendo con taquicardia entre 160-165 pulsaciones (cuando hago ejercicio estoy máximo a 150) y el guía aseguró que podía continuar sin dificultad. Cuando bajamos de la laguna, empecé a encontrarme mal con síntomas de mal de altura que no mejoraban con las horas y lo más importante es que mi pulso cardíaco no bajaba de 120 en reposo absoluto. Procedimos a solicitar protocolo de emergencia ante la situación (oxígeno, centro médico cercano, llamadas) y no existía ninguno. El guía informó que estaríamos incomunicados a partir de las 21h, ya que no disponían de llamadas vía satélite ni tampoco teníamos cobertura telefónica. Ante esta situación médica (y de aislamiento, ya que estábamos a una hora mínimo del primer pueblo) solicitamos a la empresa que nos retornaran a Cusco y no ofrecieron solución (el transporte de regreso estaba incluido para el día siguiente). Lo único que nos propusieron fue que pagáramos 450 soles en efectivo para un transporte no autorizado (uno de los coches que estuvimos durante casi 2 horas circulando no tenía ni cinturones de seguridad ni reposacabezas) y así asegurarnos que estaríamos en Cusco para descender, tal y como habían recomendado el seguro médico. Al día siguiente, el 5 de agosto de 2025 me ingresan en la Clínica San José durante 2 noches y 3 días con mal de altura provocada por taquicardia y oxígeno bajo (me tuvieron con medicación y oxígeno durante esos 3 días). El médico indicó que el GUÍA tenía que haberme recomendado bajar inmediatamente con el pulso de 160-165 que tenía constantemente durante 2 horas. En el alta recomendaron no continuar con la ruta y descender para evitar repetir la situación y así lo hicimos.
2. El día 8 agosto, un día después del alta, procedemos a ir a la empresa ante la falta de interés y comunicación. No se habían puesto en contacto en ningún momento ni la empresa ni el guía para ver mi estado de salud. Además, teníamos un tour contratado al día siguiente y no se preocuparon para nada. Los trabajadores parecía que no conocían muy bien la situación (solamente lo del coche) y nos comunicaron que en la misma tarde nos darían una respuesta a la reclamación oral. A día 3 de septiembre todavía esperamos
3. Además de lo anterior comentado, no cumplen su política de pasar hambre. En el desayuno no pude comer absolutamente nada: la fruta estaba en mal estado (no se aprecia en la fotografía), había pan seco, huevos revueltos y café que no puedo comer por intolerancias (se adjunta foto desayuno). Lo peor de pasar hambre es ver como los guías disfrutan de un desayuno impresionante con arroz y pollo entre otras cosas (¡es una vergüenza!)
4. Durante el ascenso, estuvimos grabando en todo momento y el guía nos acompañó correctamente, pero sin preocuparse demasiado por mi estado de salud (también sufrí una bajada de tensión durante la subida). Durante el descenso, bajamos completamente solos, el guía nos abandonó.

I decided to celebrate my birthday in Cusco so i book the Classic Inca Trail tour with Quechuas Expeditions and it was the perfect choice! From day one, everything was smooth and well organized, the team was punctual, friendly, and always attentive to the little details that make a big difference.

The views were breathtaking, but what truly made the experience unique was how connected I felt to the history and spirit of the Andes. Sleeping under the stars and reaching the Sun Gate at sunrise to see Machu Picchu appear through the mist. Thank you Quechuas Expeditions, for giving me a birthday I’ll always remember!

Es la segunda vez que hacemos el caminos inca con QE. Como la primera vez todo ha sido estupendo, la recogida, el guia, Fernando Illapa, es muy buen conocedor del lugar. Nos reponde a todas las preguntas que le hacemos, y se acomoda a nuestro ritmo. La comida ha sido excelente.
Sin duda, repetiría con ellos cualquier otra excursiòn.

We had a great time on our salkantay trek.

Our guide Jose was very knowledgeable and was able to give us good information throughout the 5 day trek. Especially at machu picchu.

The domes we stayed in throughout the trek were well kept clean and confortable.

The chef for our trip made great food also.

They did it again. This trip was very special for me since it was the first time I was taking my daughter visit Machu Picchu. Decided that my tour operator would be QE. Everything was on point. Airport pick up, hotel stay, Inti Raymi, Vinicunca (7 color mountain), Inca trail and Machu Picchu. The set up was definitely there. They even took us to Saqsaywaman, not near the citadel, and experience a traditional feast where we ate Huatia. A special way to cook food above ground from clods of earth. Really impressing. And this folks, is what I'm talking about, experience something that is not common. No tourists were present on this site. With this, I can say QE has an original view on experience and this separates them from the other operators. This is my third time with QE and I'm glad I trust them with my adventures in Peru.
