Le Son Arvostelua 91

Purchased the SL1 MKII a couple months back. Before my purchase, Gregory verified that the cartridge would be a good fit for my turntable and system. After the purchase, he walked me through setting things up properly and making sure all performed as expected. In todays world, I really appreciated the "hands on" approach to customer service.
THIS CARTRIDGE MAKES MY VINYL SING ! It replaced a Ortofon Blue, obviously a little pricier but well worth the dollars spent.
I'm sure I'll be doing business with LeSon in the future.

Received within a week, and installed immediately. The turntable in which it is mounted is a Well tempered lab Amadeus GTA, a turntable that can hardly be adjusted or tweaked. The cartridge it replaces is a Mc Bee from 47 labs retipped by van der Hul. The LS 10 mk2 fresh from the box on the Well tempered. Overwhelmed by the stage, clarity and detail. My Avantgarde acoustic nano uno's are a match out of heaven. It promises something for the future with 20 hours of operation behind it, now already without, overwhelming.

Unfortunately, the brass headshell washers did not match my specific Technics tonearm, but Le Son owner Gregory was very friendly and helpful during the return shipment process and made a quick and full refund (minus shipping and Paypal costs, which is perfectly understandable).

Even though the product did not work for me, this was a VERY enjoyable online shopping experience, and I highly recommend Le Son for it!

Que dire de cette cellule ! Le packaging et la présentation est quelque chose de jamais vu dans cette gamme de prix.
Quant au rendu sonore, dès les premières notes on est surpris par la clarté et le naturel des voix et des instruments. Elle s'exprime toutefois au bout d'une vingtaines d'heures et la elle apporte un vrai plaisir à l'écoute, on se surprend à taper du pied.
La faculté d'analyse et de lecture dans les "pianissimo" est épatante, même à très bas niveau absolument tout est audible avec une faculté de restitution hors norme. Elles est très neutre et pas fatigante à l'écoute, on est surpris à écouter disque après disque pendant des heures et je redécouvre tous mes vinyles.

Fantastic cart. Balanced, clear, good detailed bass, beautiful top end. I'm rotating between this and a Grado Statement 3, they each have a different sound signature of course, but the LeSon is at the same level of overall sound quality and beats the Grado in some areas- very very impressive.

An incredible value really. Shipping was pretty quick, packaging was absolutely first class- better than Grado! And the follow up was great. If this meets your budget, I don't think there is another MC cart at this price that comes close.

Le Son ist hier in Deutschland ein eher unbekannter Hersteller von Tonabnehmern. Jedoch bereue meinen Kauf des Top Of The Line Systems nicht. Von der ersten Kontaktaufnahme bis hin zum gelieferten Artikel war alles Vorbildlich. Das ist heute leider nicht mehr selbstverständlich. Gregory hat mir alle Fragen umgehend und ausführlich beantwortet.
Wer jetzt eine ausführliche Klangbeschreibung erwartet, wird hier enttäuscht werden. Jedoch bin aufgrund des Preises und der dafür erhaltenen Qualität mehr als zufrieden. In dieser Preisklasse bekommt man qualitativ und klanglich nichts vergleichbares.

I’ve been on this HiFi bandwagon for the best part of 50 years. In that time I’ve had 8 turntables, including a Rega and a Linn (for 20 years) not to mention numerous arms and cartridges. Nearly all the cartridges were moving coils ranging from a Supex, Linn, Dynavector, Accuphase, Gold Note, London Decca Super Gold and a few others.

To cut to the chase, the LS10 MkII moving coil beats them all, hands down! I asked my lovely wife, who has shared this HiFi experience with me for over 30 years and who always sits and listens to music with me in our afternoons, what she thought of the LS10 MkII. The following are her unbiased descriptions, and I totally agree.

She describes it as open, with great clarity, detail, depth and dynamics, and with great bass (she loves the bass, as do I!). She also added that it simply “draws you into the music” like no other cartridge we’ve listened to. I would add that it also has great inner detail; there is better separation between instruments and quite often I could hear instrument and bass details that I had not heard before. A real joy! It’s also quiet in the groove. I have many records in my “out box” which I previously considered unplayable due to surface noise and some of these have now been resurrected and put back on the shelf!

The LS10 MkII is like no other cartridge I’ve ever owned or heard before, although I have to say that I have not heard any of those high 4 and 5 figure cartridges to do a comparison, such as the Ortofon MC Anna. However, what I can say is that the LS10 MkII is a highly engaging listen. Some cartridges engage the mind with their high degree of detail and technical excellence and whilst the LS10 MkII does that very well, while doing so it also engages the heart and soul of the music and to me that is what I’ve been missing for a very, very long time. Undoubtedly there are better cartridges out there, but at what price? For me, at this moment, I don’t feel the need to look any further!

A word on phono stages. I tried the LS10 with three phono stages, two tube and one Gold Note solid state. I initially tried it with the solid state and it sounded great, I was in heaven. But that was until about 20 hours in when I switched it to my tube preamp which has a built in Oxford Step Up Transformer (SUT). After a few hours of finding the right transformer gain settings, this combination blew me away. It smoked the solid state, which was no slouch. So, there’s a caveat here, no doubt the LS10 MkII will sound good through many phono stages; but, you may never know what all the fuss is about unless you give it the very best phono stage that you can; and if you can use an input SUT into a tube phono preamp, then even better.

My only criticism, not related to sound quality of the cartridge, is that the stylus guard is somewhat loose and falls off fairly easily. For me that’s not a really big deal as I’m used to naked cartridges, but it can become a big deal when changing cartridges or arms. In such cases I put a small elastic band around the stylus guard and headshell assembly to hold the stylus guard in place. Hopefully this is something LeSon can fix, or may have already fixed.

I can’t leave this review without also mentioning that dealing with Gregory from LeSon has been a real pleasure. He is a true professional and answered every question I could throw at him. He is not your typical HiFi salesman, he will also ask you, the potential purchaser, questions to make sure you have the right equipment to make the LS10 sound its best. These are people who really care about music!

I really love what the LS10 MkII does with vinyl grooves such that I’ve told Gregory I will be buying another, or possibly the next incarnation, the LS10 MKIII! Call this is a rave review! Thank you LeSon.

When you think of cartridges, you think of the established brands available at your local audio dealer. Since I read about the relatively unknown brand Le Son on an audio forum, including several positive reviews, my curiosity was aroused. I decided to put it to the test and order the Le Son LS10 MKII.

My turntable is a Pro-Ject Extension 10 Evolution. The Le Son cartridge has now been used for more than 30 hours and is fully broken in. The sound and spatial reproduction are stunning across the board. The deep bass this element reproduces is also impressive. My previous cartridge is an Ortofon Cadenza Red. A very good cartridge, but the Le Son LS10 MKII scores significantly better on all points.

Last but not least, the personal attention from Le Son by Gregory de Richemont is of a level that you hardly find anywhere else these days,

Gregory provided excellent customer service. SL1 MKII cartridge came into well designed package with a lot of attention to details. All the tools and information needed were at hand for an easy install into my VPI Traveler.

I've waited a while to write this review to make sure there was no reduction in performance, but safe to say there has been none.
My SL1 Mk11 came in a smart wooden box, was as easy to install and set up as the company promised.
After easily a couple of hundred hours it still sounds great. It replaced an expensive low-output MC, it's clearer, more transparent in all frequencies. I cannot praise it, or the company, enough. Give it a go!

I initially had some bad luck issues with my LS10 MKII - I accidentally broke the needle. Gregory was more than helpful with this issue and we got it resolved in a very timely manner. This cartridge is exactly what I was looking for - it's sound quality/price ratio is unparalleled and right up my alley, as I don't like spending exorbitant prices on mediocre audio gear. It's stellar musical qualities have been described aptly by Marek Dyba on the Hifi Knights webpage - I can only add that I fully agree with his assessment and that finding something better at a similar price point might be impossible (the LS10 MkII easily beat my similarly priced Gold Note Donatello Gold). The customer service experience is just as good or even better than the product (hard to decide - I love the cartridge, but the smoothing of the ups and downs of my overall experience and my bad luck is something that I will always be grateful for); Gregory is someone who made me feel like I'm more than just a customer and talking to him was always a pleasure. Buy with confidence, LeSon is a company led by a kind and caring man who stands by his word.
