Kind and compassionate customer service experience
Due to a serious health issue in our family we’re not able to travel to France for our summer holiday. I contacted customer services via the text chat and spoke to
Phoebe. Throughout the exchange she was kind, thoughtful and very helpful. She moved our booking to December and told me to call back when the 2026 dates are released to reschedule the trip. I was really impressed by her approach and the company’s approach to our difficult situation.

Normally I have a relatively ok experience. I do 3 return trips from Dublin to Cherbourg per year. Occasionally I get a room without a flushing toilet. This time I had a room without shower soap, without a flushing toilet and without hot water.
Normally the boarding experience is poor. The people directing the traffic are not very skilled at giving directions and get very agressive when you don't immediately follow their cryptic directions. There is one particularly pig ignorant guy who is always there to ruin the first day of my holiday. To top it off this time they decided to load the ship from the front this time and none of them seemed to have a clue what they were doing. I will try Brittany ferries or fly for my next trip. I have already booked Christmas but I will cancel it.
Avoid
Avoid. Just watching my booked boat leaving, no information whatsoever! I have to wait 2.5 hours for the next one. Check in, 1 hour waiting and watching other cars moving. My plans for 1000 mile route just went to drain. Never again.

Booked a return swift ferry ticket to Dublin and the day before departure both were canceled with no explaination. Had to then book and pay for a hotel due to the time changes and a longer sail.
ferry nightmare
We boarded a Dover to Calais for. 5 day break. We purchased a breakfast when we bought the tickets. The staff were confused with us buying the meal before and did not know how to process the transaction. The sausages were awful and I wouldn’t even have given them to my dogs!! We spoke to drivers who were furious as an earlier crossing had been cancelled as they said there were not enough passengers!!! Coming back the ferry was late and the safety announcements were too loud and unbearable… they must assume are all deaf!!!Never will we use this company again!!!

Bloody extortionate take a plane
Bloody extortionate! I booked through direct ferries. It says get to the port 30 minutes before departure at the latest. On the outbound journey I got there 40 minutes before and at the time the ferry should have been leaving I was still sat in the queue at 3am. Not the same experience for the return, no...
I got there with the 30 minutes to spare. (Maybe 28 minutes) And it was completely dead! So I had to book another.
£190, including a sodding processing fee for booking online!?
Get there with an hour to spare because they leave whenever.
Always late on France service
We travel from Ireland to France quite regularly and for the last few years, every trip we took with Irish Ferries was late arriving - by up to four hours. It's consistently late and the excuses given (if any) are simply not believable. I heard a story that if the ship is going too fast (?) that HQ can call the captain and tell him to slow down. I'm not sure about this but something is seriously wrong. I've never had these issues with Brittany Ferries, who are always punctual.

Cancelled the original booked ferry from both sides due to low load, we had to wait three hours for the next one to depart. Planned our trip in such a way so we get home in not very late but thanks for Irish Ferries, reached home four hours late at 3 am as opposed to 11 am. No communication regarding change.
I used Irish Ferries for 1st time, great!
I used Irish Ferries for first time Dover-Calais return. They offered the lowest price. The Ferry was a bit smaller than the huge P&O Ferries and we preferred the seating layout and the smaller size, this made it much quicker to embark and disembark. Staff were very friendly, not sure why so many negative comments from others.
Poor communication and service
Travelled to UK from Ireland to. Outbound was with Stenna Line to Scotland from Belfast - great experience and the journey is fast (2 and half hours) in comparison to the journey form Wales to Rosslare (overall trip was supposed to be 4 and a half hours but we drove off the ship nearly 6 hours later. The trip back with Irish Ferries was very poor. From the start the greeting woman gave wrong information about where the toilets were. We then waited half an hour for our food to be delivered after ordering - they gave no reason or apology. One person was on the bar and seemed very stressed even though there was no queue (very slow service). The journey was supposed to be 4 and a half hours but we docked in half an hour late - again, no apology given over the tannoy nor reason why were late. We then sat in our cars for 40 mins before being allowed to drive off, no tannoy message given to explain what the delay was for. This was a very disappointing voyage with Irish Ferries and we won't use them again. The ship was only about a third full yet there were not enough staff and of those few seemed to speak adequate English. Not satisfactory in this day and age.

Gefahr von beschädigten Autos beim Boarding. CheckIn unfähig.
Wir waren 50min vor letzten Checkin und mussten über 1std in der Auto Warteschlange stehen. Es waren maximal 20 Autos vor uns. Nach Diskussion beim checkin konnte ich noch auf die Fähre. Dan beim beladen wurden die Autos dermaßen eng zusammengestellt das ich nur durch meine Schiebetüre aus dem Auto gekommen bin. Das Personal hat sich dann durch die Autos gequetscht und mussten die Aussenspiegeln anklappen um durchzukommen. Kein Respekt vor fremden Autos. Das war meine letzte Buchung mit IF.

Irish Ferry staff have very poor training. Service is worst. People are queuing outside desk and there was system Failure. I was traveling at 0750 and arrived at port 0630am however I was told due to system failure you have to wait until next Ferry arrives at 10:50am. I was traveling with Autistic Child and we had very difficult situation while waiting for next ferry. I will never travel again ever on Irish Ferry and will not recommend it to anyone.
Customer service is a joke…
Customer service has been extremely frustrating. I tried to get a quote for a ferry and hotel deal, but there was an unreasonable delay in their email responses, taking 2 to 4 days each time. In the meantime, the cost of the ferry increased by £150 while I was still waiting for a reply. As a result, I decided to fly and rent a car instead, as it turned out to be cheaper.

Have been trying to book the ferry for more than 30 minutes. Always error occurs. After I gave up went to Stena website and finished in 5 minutes.

Forced to miss ferry on the Dover>Calais route
Travelled on the Dover>Calais route. I had booked the 10:15 ferry. Arrived at the port 70 minutes before departure (so longer than advised by IF). After passing through passport control, realised that they only had one check-in counter open for passenger cars, which led to a 45 minutes wait. They finally opened a second one, but by that time, it was too late, and a lot of us had missed the ferry. They rebooked us on the next one (2.5 hours later) with no explanation or apologies, despite it being their own operational mistake. I was late to a family event because of this.
