I’ve been an ING customer for 15 years, both as a private individual and for my company. During this time, I’ve also had accounts with other banks, and I can honestly say that ING has by far the best internet banking app.

I only visit an ING branch to update my company’s information because it’s easier than doing it online. For my personal account, I update my details directly through Home’Bank. Overall, I’ve been very satisfied so far.

ING was among the first banks in Romania to implement phone-number-based payments, instant transfers with no fees, and ePOS payments on Android mobile phones. Their call center usually responds fairly quickly — not perfect, but definitely decent.

The fees for personal accounts are reasonable. If you make a minimum number of monthly transactions and incoming payments, the account maintenance fee is zero.

It’s a modern bank that I would recommend to others, especially since I also have experience with other banks in Romania.

16 May 2026 my accounts have been blocked. Monday the 18th I am to fly to work in Brüssel. Thank you for making sure I lose my job.

PER TOTAL O EXPERIENTA BUNA,dar in ultimi 2 ani au cam decazut.In special pe PJ rup pe comisioane.Mai ales la popriri impuse de anaf ia cate 50 lei pt orice tranzactie.

O experienta foarte neplăcută cu o doamna Negreanu care nu m a ajutat deloc chiar părea plictisita de problemele mele in ceeace privește proasta functionare a aplicației home bank. PROBABIL ANGAJATII ING AR TREBUI SA RESPECTE CLIENTII CAT II MAI AU! PERSONAL CAUT SA SCHIMB BANCA!!

Serviciul cu clientii e deplorabil la ING. Nu exista nicio posibilitate de a vorbi direct cu un operator, au introdus AI practic peste tot si e de a dreptul limitat.
ING nu mai este ce a fost candva.

Am facut o plata in valuta - initial, dupa efectuarea platii, mi-a aratat un curs, ulterior (peste 2 zile), m-am trezit cu 300 lei in minus pe diferenta de curs si dubla conversie. Deci repet - pe 26 aveam o suma, pe 28 suma se modificase (mai mult cu 300 lei). Trageti voi concluziile!

In last 12 years it has gone down from top to bottom.
App keeps throwing tantrums.
They keep asking for verification docs more often than normal.
Their service fees are unacceptably high.
Time for me to move on.

Deschiderea unui cont este foarte complicata și durează extraordinar de mult, iar aplicația mobila este... de rasul lumii.

Very bad experience... I would never recommend this bank. I started to open my account in October 2025. Now, it is end of December 2025, and after two visits at the bank and many messages with their costumer service, I still didn't succeed in opening ING Young accounts for my daughters... The only good point is the nice and polite staff, trying to be useful, but they can't succeed because of the ING's stupid regulations. AVOID THIS BANK IF POSSIBLE!

AVOID THIS BANK – SHOCKING AND DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE

I am a foreign citizen and opened an account with this bank. Everything seemed fine until I was summoned for a so-called “data update.”

I went in person to the ING branch on Bulevardul Eroilor, Cluj-Napoca. The teller checked my documents several times, clearly struggling to understand them (they were in a foreign language), and then presented me with printed forms to sign.

Total shock: the documents listed me as a Romanian citizen, with a made-up Romanian personal identification number (CNP), and my official documents from my country of residence were described as being issued by the “Romanian authorities in Cluj.” Essentially, the bank had “naturalized” me on the spot.

I left the branch thinking I had accidentally entered the Population Records office or the National Authority for Citizenship. Obviously, I had taken no oath and requested nothing of the sort. I returned and pointed out that the documents were false and that the bank had no legal right to change citizenship or assign CNPs.

The staff’s reaction was aggressive and arrogant: I was told that “this is how the software works,” that I didn’t understand Romanian well, and that I was speaking too loudly. Zero accountability, zero professionalism, zero respect.

Seeing I was talking to a wall, I left the branch—declared a Romanian without request, without an oath, without any legal basis.

Later, I received threatening emails about my account being closed “in stages.” I filed complaints with ASF, BNR, Consumer Protection, and other competent authorities.

A week later, another “consultant” informed me that the document falsification was “a human error,” but my account would be suspended anyway if I did not provide absurd and nonexistent documents (NIF, NAF, DSC), which I had never been informed about and which had never been requested when I opened the account.

Conclusion: serious incompetence, lack of oversight, major legal risk for clients—especially foreign citizens. If a bank is capable of changing your citizenship on official documents, imagine what it could do with your data or money.

Strong recommendation: avoid this bank.

I've had my account with them for half a year now, this is arguably the best bank in Romania at the moment. The app is very good and full of nice features you dont find on other local bank's apps. The customer support is good, they even have a chat option which I've used and my problem was solved quickly.

Evitati sa faceti schimb valutar la ING! Va fura pe fata! Am schimbat o suma mica de Euro din greseala si am facut imediat inapoi conversia si am pierdut 1000 Lei! Sunt alte banci mult mai serioase!
