There were posters in the restaurant and grocery area advertising a package discount if you bought salmon filets, dill sauce and vegetable medallions. We were charged full price at the cash and after arguing for 20 minutes were grudgingly given the advertised price. Haven't been back since,unethical and incompetent.
Horrible Service
I’m an 18 year-old university student in Nova Scotia and last year. I decided I was going to buy new furniture for my room so I didn’t have to worry about furniture of my own. I saved up and went to Ikea and purchased a $530 bed frame with a headboard and drawers underneath. In just a little over a year, the dowels slid out of the bedframe and it snapped completely. I contacted Ikea explained the situation, provided them with photos, and I was told that they would send it off for decision. I called back after hearing nothing two days later and was told I wasn’t going to be getting my money back. Speaking to a customer service rep on the phone. I asked if there was anything I could do as I don’t have a lot of money, especially in Canadian economy to keep buying furniture that’s supposed to last years. I spoke to him about my problems with the bed in the past year of the dowels squeaking and falling out and how it just snapped when I went to go sit on it. This representative was very great at helping me out and helped me take proper photos and explain in detail for an update on the file. I was then told I’d be contacted with a decision soon. Two days later I called back as I hadn’t heard anything and I was told there was no update. I called again two more days later and was still told there was no update and that I would be contacted the following day. After a week and a half of no updates from IKEA I called and was told that they had made a definite decision that I would not be getting my money back and that there was nothing they could do for me. As a university student with very little money, trying to get through university and save to afford the cost of living, to say, I was extremely frustrated that there was a “nothing they could do” is an understatement. How is anyone supposed to trust the product you sell if the product doesn’t last and when it doesn’t last they can’t get their money back or even an exchange for the frame. The whole process was very distant and I wasn’t contacted at all. I had to contact them despite being told otherwise. I haven’t been able to sleep in my own room and I’ve been trying to figure out an alternate solution given that the frame is still broken. Needless to say I’m leaving a review on anywhere I’m able to and going to any friends and family about the poor quality of Ikea products and even worst.
Give me my money back, IKEA!
I put in an online order which came very quickly. I sent back some of the order at my cost because the items were low quality. Ikea received my order over 4 weeks ago, but to this day has not put a credit for the returned items on my credit card. I phoned them 8 (!) times. Each time I hear a different story; it takes 5 business days, 10 business days, 15 business days, oh we didn't process your return properly, it will be there by friday, a manager will call you. Scandalous incompetency and mismanagement of a simple return which other companies manage to handle in a couple od days. Give me my money back, IKEA!

First I came to the Ikea store in Burlington to purchase some furniture and I was informed that those items are only available for delivery but Ikea still charged for the delivery even though the items are not available in store
Today I’m doing a return, a few upset customers claiming to have been waiting a very long time, I have been here for half hour and I’m still in 6th place because there’s only 2 attendants at customer service or lack there of
Frustrating and upsetting experience
Just had a very frustrating experience returning items at Ikea queensway. On arrival there was only one person waiting. I proceeded to the computer to get into the cue. Because I had more than 5 items, I did not chose the express option as indicated, even though I had my original receipt. I then sat and watched several people come in, go to the computer to get into the cue and then get called ahead of me because they had 5 or less items. When I approached one of the associates to question this, her colleague proceeded to chime in and give me attitude about how they were proceseing express people and that I just had to wait my turn. When I asked to speak to the manager they first told me SHE was busy but would be with me in five minutes and then a gentleman came out and posed as the manager. What should have been a couple of minutes ( which is what it actually took when they finally prcessed me) took over a half hour. Needless to say the experien was very upsetting and I as a regular customer of IKEA, I now have a very different view of the company.
NonExistent customer service
i recently bought 2k worth of closet organizers and 8/9 steel pins on the panel legs were bent. They still fit into the pre drilled hole, but the result was crooked legs. I called immediately and was told I had to send photos through their chat. Fine, I did that, but then spent an hour answering questions for agent JIYA before being told no pick up or delivery slots were available to replace the defective parts and to call back another day. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told someone would call by 9pm. That never happened. i live too far away to bring the parts back to the store so I will live with the crooked legs but am warning everyone about their crappy customer service.

We were unable to pay the 'installation' portion of our order, so we cancelled our order.
After three days of speaking with various tech support individuals, we went directly to a store & they were unable to reproduce a hard copy to pay. During the three days, IKEA's techs kept saying it was a bank issue & it wasn't until we got IKEA & the bank on the same line that IKEA finally admitted they had no idea how to fix. So we cancelled the order.
While in the store, the staff mentioned they've had other customers complaining about the same thing. And it appears IKEA has no interest of resolving the issue.

A nightmare delivery
I ordered an Alex drawer online with delivery to my address. The package was dropped in front of my door with visible damage on the box. The delivery guy, has signed that the box is in mint condition. After several minutes looking for options to call Ikea and let them know that my item is damaged, and you can see that on the box, they told me that in order to exchange it I'll need to wait a week before they come and collect the item, once they receive it, they can send the other one. They came and collected the item. The next day I got a call from Ikea letting me know that they won't be able to deliver the new item the day we had agreed, so they delayed the delivery day for 5 more days.
This is the worst experience I've ever had with a furniture company.

The delivery of my order was the worst delivery ever. Two men were in charge who couldn’t find a straight address and arrived so late and once they got at the place they acted so rude and unprofessional. I’m not sure how IKEA outsource their delivery but this was very very disappointing.

Je veux vous partager mes trois dernières expériences chez IKEA Montréal. Je suis allée sur l'heure du dîner et il y avait plein de jeunes étudiants, mal élevés et même arrogants envers les clients. Ils s'achètent de quoi manger et ils montent à l'étage pour manger, assis sur des lits ou divan, fauteuils, tables... Il y en a partout... Quand nous voulons entrer dans une pièce pour voir quelques choses, et qu'ils sont là, tout bien installés, ils nous font sentir, de ne pas les déranger et de repasser plus tard, quand ils seront partis. De plus, nous en avons vu se tirailler sur les lits, avec leurs chaussures... Et, aussi, d'autres, jouer avec des jouets d'enfants comme, des ballons... Ça jouait au soccer dans le passage et nous sentions que nous étions dans leur territoire... Ils replacent les choses un peu partout au lieu de le remettre au bon endroit... Et en plus, ces produits seront vendus à vos bons clients... Ça n'a pas de sens... Vous devriez les interdire d'entrer ou, de monter à l'étage. Parlez aussi avec le directeur de leur école parce que ça n'a pas de sens. Au point où je n'ai plus le goût de retourner chez vous... C'est triste de payer pour ces jeunes non éduqués...

An absolutely rage-inducing, Kafkaesque nightmare.
I had an absolutely horrible experience at the Ottawa store tonight. For background, I've shopped at IKEA many times, spending thousands there over the years. Tonight, my family and I went in to buy a futon cover because our old one was getting worn out. I realized quickly that I couldn't just pick up a cover from the shelf. Instead, I had to place the order through a kiosk, pay at the checkout, and pick up the item at the furniture pickup area. That seemed acceptable-enough ... how long could it take to get a small item? Well ... after paying, I went to the kiosk and saw a screen displaying a handful of people waiting. I waited 15 minutes as that number waiting rose to 12. Meanwhile, my family, which included my wife, daughter of 8, and son of 2, had meandered over and were waiting. It was getting close to my boy's bedtime. They finally called ONE number, and then nothing. There was one young woman behind the counter, and another who brought out that item. I asked the latter if I could please get my item, as my son needed to get home for bed. She went into the back room and came back to say no -- I had to wait. Then she went on break. For the next 15 minutes (now 30 minutes waiting), no items were called. I went back up to the counter, now empty, and waited to talk to someone. The young woman stationed at the counter came back from the warehouse behind her. I asked if I could please get my item or my money back. I really had to leave. She couldn't get me my item, she said, because she couldn't leave the counter (then where was she while I waited to ask that question?). She said I could go talk to the people at the returns area nearby to get my money back. I went over there, and the man told me that he couldn't help me -- there was a line of people sitting around waiting to be helped there. He told me I could leave and my order might be cancelled and returned to my card. Baffled, but having to get my toddler to bed, I drove my family the 15-minute ride home, then drove back to the store where my item was FINALLY ready.
The lack of service offered to customers who make the effort to go into this physical store was such an awful experience. They turned my happy demeanour going for a nice family outing into a white hot rage fuelled by the Kafkaesque nightmare of their "customer service." I have spent tens-of-thousands of dollars at IKEA over the years. I will not spend another dime there EVER AGAIN.
Only shop in ikea stores and not online for delivery!
Terrible service. We ordered two mattresses. They arrived at our house completely covered in dirt and garbage. The delivery truck appeared to be a multi-purpose perhaps used for landscaping purposes. It took me 15 minutes to clean the outside plastic covering because they were too dirty to bring into the house. It was then that we realized both mattresses had several large tears in the plastic. We steam cleaned one mattress but returned the second mattress. It took us five weeks, several phone calls with IKEA call centre along with several hours of work to get our refund back. We will never again order IKEA online for delivery. We began the process ordering the mattresses in June and finally got a refund September 5th. My suggestion is shop in store and never use ikea online services for delivery.

I planned and attempted to order a kitchen, the system showed one part out of stock so blocked me from completing the order....ths was going around for 3 mths!
I live over 500km away from the nearest Ikea...so have had to call the customer service number more than once and finally found a human being that new the computer system enough to force the order through.
The 2nd part of the order I chose delivery...which is where it got worse.
BE WARNED....if you live north of Edmonton, Ikea use 3rd party trucking.
Ikea do not want to take responsibility for any part there after once it leaves their 'warehouse'.
In my case, it was with Manitoulin...who do have a depot near me but do not have a regular route in my rural area.
IKEA SHOULD be aware of this...and I told the call center agent this...but was told it would be delivered on a set date....it was not.
3 set dates later...I called Manitoulin dispatch and have a chat(I use them at my workplace!) and it would appear that IKEA have a big habit of lying to their customers...!
I have had to make the call, I have had to chase the order, I have had to do the leg-work that IKEA can't manage to do.
The call center staff are either not being given correct information and training or are lying deliberately!?
Reading other reviews, my issue is a small one but the delivery info given to me across 5 separate calls were all different!!
Corporate management/middle management need to step-up and be held accountable for letting their staff flounder.

Ordered a $15,000 kitchen from IKEA on March 30. It’s now July 4 — still no countertop. Zero follow-up. I had to call JANOVSKI myself the day before to get any info. They told me delivery would be between 9:30–10AM. On the day of delivery? A 9:15AM call demanding $745 IKEA forgot to charge — or no delivery. Outrageous. Avoid IKEA and JANOVSKI.

I ordered a $15,000 kitchen from IKEA on March 30. Since then: multiple errors, long delays, and poor communication. The countertop, managed by JANOVSKI, was finally scheduled for July 4 — over a month late.
I had to call JANOVSKI myself on July 3, as no one contacted me. They told me delivery would happen between 9:30–10AM. Then at 9:15AM the next day, I got a call saying I had to pay $745 that IKEA failed to include — otherwise, no delivery. Their goodwill gesture? Just covering the tax. No accountability. No customer care.
IKEA failed, JANOVSKI doubled it. I don’t recommend using either for kitchen installations.
Extremely disappointed with Ikea. Will not be back!!
I have loved to shop at Ikea for as long as I can remember. I have 3 of the Brimnes bed with drawers. Just recently discovered because they are so low to the floor there is no air flow. Mold has now grown in the bottom of the drawers (a total of 6 drawers)
I was told Ikea is not responsible. It is the responsibility of the consumer. The customer service agent actually asked me if I spilled something on the beds. Made me feel like it was my fault. I have no mold anywhere else in my house.
I was told there is nothing they can do for me.
This is just a suggestion. If you have a bed, please look under the drawers for mold. My 3 beds are 8 years, 3 years and the third bed is 3 months old. 2 of the beds have mold. Due to the health. concern, 2 of the 3 beds were destroyed.
Sad thing is Ikea won’t even return my bed from 6 months ago.
I will not be back to shop at Ikea!
Absolutely rubbish service
Absolutely rubbish service. It took me having to wait a week longer than what was scheduled to receive my order. Bear in mind, I bought in the shop and delivery is a 5 minute drive away.
And this is after making em spend a whole day waiting for them only for me to call and to be surprised that the delivery wasn’t coming after it was already 90 minutes after scheduled time.
Never ordering and buying from them again. Cheap is really that, and that’s the service you get…cheap!
