Terrible experience – complete lack of responsibility and humanity
I had a horrible experience with Hobij. I arrived in the Netherlands on 15 October 2025 to start working through their agency, and on 20 October I suffered a severe allergic reaction with risk of anaphylactic shock.
When I urgently contacted my coordinator, Mr. Guilherme Gonzalo, I received no medical assistance or support. He simply told me to go to a pharmacy, buy some medicine, and wait one month — even though I was in serious danger.
Later that morning, I called the health insurance company, and they confirmed that I was not registered at all — meaning Hobij had not activated my mandatory Dutch health insurance. This is illegal under Dutch law (Zorgverzekeringswet).
Because of this negligence, I was forced to fly back to Portugal for medical treatment, and during the flight my lung collapsed due to the untreated allergic reaction. I am now hospitalised at Hospital Pedro Hispano in Porto.
This company completely failed in its duty of care, showing no responsibility, no empathy, and no respect for workers’ safety.
I am still waiting for a formal apology and full reimbursement of the costs I had to cover myself.
I strongly advise anyone — especially foreign workers — to think twice before trusting Hobij.
