The facilitator has a ton of insight and offers tangible techniques for exploring emotions, conflict, relationships etc. I am always left with something to think about.

I was a little skeptical of the service just due to how I came across it - I don't always trust Facebook ads - but after looking at the website and all the literature available I took a chance and am very pleased that I did!! I was matched with a group pretty quickly after answering their intake questions and I felt seen and at ease even in the first session. I love all the different servers they have available on their Discord (memes, daily reflections, cozy gaming etc) that allow you to connect with other "Journeyers" that may not be in your direct group.

I will say that, although it is presented as a "game-and-talk" type support group, we haven't been playing games together during our sessions like I expected based on the advertising. I'm not complaining - it seems like it would be too hard to maintain focus on the conversation and game at the same time, especially because the sessions are only 80 minutes.

All in all, 10/10 highly recommend HJC as a type of virtual support group, don't super recommend if you're looking for a support group that games.

I love the community, the shared experiences, thought processes and overall vibe of HJC. I can honestly say that this is something I look forward to weekly and gives me a huge boost for my upcoming week.

I really, really enjoy the fact that I’m in a group I feel really comfortable with. It’s very easy to talk to the others in my group and it’s really fun playing games with them. I also enjoyed the times I could only chat, even though I couldn’t play the game with the others. For the mental health part, I think it’s really nice how understanding and supportive the others in my group are, and I’ve never really felt judged for my life experiences. Only reason why I took off a star is because I wish there was more time to get familiar with everyone in the group including the journey guide a bit more outside of the stuff we talk about during sessions.

I like hearing about new mental tools for dealing with anxiety. I don't know how much I've been able to actually enact them in life. The biggest thing for me is just having people I can talk to about what's going on in my head.

I genuinely used to love this place. I used to be a regular in the community, and spent well over a year in a journey. I became very familiar with most of the staff and many of the server members from my contributions to the community as a moderator. But, due to poor management at the time and numerous issues with that very community, I am left with more trauma than I started with. The sheer amount of anxiety and dread I feel whenever an HJC ad pops up on any social media is nausea-inducing. Please remember that therapists are NOT your friend, and it should absolutely stay on a professional level. A mental health community is NOT the place to find romance. I sincerely hope that things have improved since I cut contact with the service and the place in its entirety (save for a few of my journey-mates).

It’s structured and led by someone with group counseling experience.

I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but after a few months, I can say that not only does this work but group therapy + gaming is something special. Having a group to be vulnerable with while also all being able to relate because of our shared hobby of gaming has been insanely amazing! So far I have been enjoying what this company offers me in regards to social ability but also excited to see what the future holds as well! Being vulnerable in a group setting isn't easy but something about this culture makes it a little less scary. Please keep up the amazing work!!

My group mates are incredible people, and our fearless leader, Betsy, is empathetic, knowledgeable, kind, sweet, and does a great job at guiding us to different solutions for whatever we have going on in our lives. She comes from a place of experience and understanding, and is easy to talk to.
HeroJourney is also affordable, easy to take weeks off from (with 48 hours notice) if you need to, and their staff is TOP TIER. I've only had positive experiences with HJ, and I plan on staying with it for a long time to come.
ALSO, your group doesn't necessarily all game together every week, so if you're stressing about not having the right game as your group, don't. A lot of the time, we're all gaming at the same time, but not necessarily together. Just give it a try; you won't regret it.

My group is laid back, respectful, and all women (which is not a requirement for me but it’s feels more inclusive this way).

Has a person with ADHD I find a lot of traditional group sessions hard to pay attention without feeling rude. Having the ability to meet online and play games helps me focus on the conversation and really gain a ton.

Everyone has been really nice and it does seem like it will be helpful. Only time will tell.

Hero Journey Club has provided support for me at a difficult time in my life. It has provided a safe space to process grief and hurt

It's so nice to be able to connect with others. It's easier to open up when you see and hear that others are going through similar situations. Sometimes others bring up topics that you haven't even realized were issue in your own life and it helps things "click" Playing games also helps relax and make a cozy setting. It's nice to get to know each other better each session

I think that the grouping together was really good and that it feel like a safe space to talk about any issues. Where as in normal therapy it’s focused on one person and if you don’t talk about your problems in a session it feel like a wasted session at times in hero journey club even if we don’t talk about any issues and mostly just play games it still feels productive because it’s a time to relax and forget about issues for a while.

I know that this isn't supposed to replace therapy but I did join partially because I am trying to figure out some problems and the format of these meets is not conducive to that. It's more about general day to day well being which is important too but it's not something that i personally struggle with.

It is nice to talk about real stuff with people. And I feel like I've bonded with the group. But I'm really not getting much out of it that can justify the price for me personally.

Also there is one guy in my group that takes up a solid 20-30 minutes every session and he really sucks the energy out of everyone else in the process. By the time he finishes rambling no one else wants to talk.

Playing games with friends at Hero Journey Club is very fun. I like building a community with awesome people who help me to feel comfortable in my group. I look forward to our meetings every week.

The therapist is very kind and am looking forward to what she brings each week. She pays attention to what I said and gave me validation and great advice. Normally there's more people and we often support and raise each other.

It's really nice to have a therapy group where everyone knows video games! It's helping me practice speaking up more and I feel like I got matched to a really good group.
