Throughout a house sale and a house purchase, Emily at GBL was the one person that could be relied upon to do her job. Never had to chase, she had already done the chasing for me. It was refreshing and wonderful during a very difficult time in my life.

Cara at Gordon Brown did an excellent job on the sale of my house. The app they use is excellent for uploading all the information and paperwork, and the entire process was a smooth as it could be. As a first time buyer navigating this process it can be very daunting. My dedicated solicitor has been patient, communicative and there every step of the way to successful exchange and completion.

Cannot say enough about how good the process was for selling and buying our new house. From the start i was informed about the procedure. I was kept messaged with information. When any problems arose these where quickly sorted out and the process kept rolling along. My focal point was Mehreen Ali. Her team worked very tirelessly and quickly to answer any questions i may have asked. I popped in a few times to drop paperwork off and i was seen straight away no unnecessary waiting to see anyone. Paper work was sent to me and quickly processed. All in all a very happy final outcome. I can strongly recommend Gordon Brown Law for the service i received.

Had an absolutely appalling experience with our conveyancer. As first-time buyers purchasing a chain-free property, we expected the process to be relatively straightforward, but the service we received was incredibly disappointing.

The lack of communication was unacceptable. My emails were often ignored, and I regularly had to chase for updates by telephone, only to be put through to someone other than my conveyancer. Apart from the initial introductory phone call, I never spoke to my conveyancer directly.

Weeks would pass with little or no apparent progress, and things only seemed to move forward after I raised my concerns and expressed my disappointment. On more than one occasion, I received updates about our mortgage from the seller's solicitor before hearing anything from Gordon Brown.

Just days before completion, I was suddenly asked to provide several more months' worth of bank statements, and the seller was asked questions about the property that should have been raised much earlier in the process. This created unnecessary stress and delays.

By some miracle, we managed to complete. Ironically, communication and progress actually seemed to improve while our conveyancer was on annual leave during the week of completion.

Overall, the experience was frustrating, stressful, and far below the standard I expected. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

I would avoid at all costs. My mortgage broker encouraged me to use GB because they got commission and I chose them because of the recommendation’ and a fairly competitive price. In the long run it cost me much more in delays and unnecessary extra expenses. Communication is a real problem, updates are vague and inconsistent and often contradictory. My conveyancer was away at times, I wasn’t informed up front, when I contacted, was told her work was being covered, but it blatantly wasn’t. I needed and asked for help and advice completing paperwork and got none, which also compounded issues. The app looked good but doesn’t get updated so becomes useless. When important documents were sent to GB, instead of being instantly acknowledged and assimilated we had to wait days for a ‘meeting’ between my conveyancer and another team. Too many different teams doing different parts of the work causing confusion and delays along the way. And overall lack of empathy or urgency. Other solicitors in the chain also reported concerns about communication.

(previously had review removed, due to adding a name, i've now removed this so no trustpilot rules broken). To anyone reading this review, this is an honest review, yes i was not their customer but we had to deal with them practically on a daily occasion.

A thoroughly frustrating experience from start to finish

Although we are not Gordon Brown Law's direct client, we are in the middle of a property chain where our buyers instructed them to act on their behalf. Unfortunately, their handling of the transaction has affected everyone involved - ourselves, our buyers, our sellers, both estate agents, and our own solicitors.

The biggest issue has been constant delays and a complete lack of communication.

Our buyers requested their contract pack to sign. Rather than sending it promptly, it took almost two weeks for Gordon Brown Law to email the documents. The buyers signed and returned them the very next day, meaning the delay sat entirely with the conveyancer.

Communication has been equally poor throughout. Emails often go unanswered for days, phone calls rarely result in meaningful updates, and when a response does arrive it isn't always from the conveyancer actually dealing with the file. It leaves everyone chasing for basic information that should be proactively communicated.

The enquiries raised have also been baffling.

For example, we had already answered "No" to the Japanese Knotweed question on the property information forms. Several days later, rather than progressing matters, we were asked to obtain evidence from a surveyor confirming there was no Japanese Knotweed. We do not have such a report, nor would most sellers unless there was already a concern.

Even more frustrating, just eight days before a proposed completion date, Gordon Brown Law raised an enquiry asking for confirmation that the property was not a discounted dwelling. This is exactly the type of enquiry that should have been raised at the beginning of the transaction, not when an entire chain is preparing to exchange and complete. Unsurprisingly, this caused yet another unnecessary delay.

From the outside, it feels as though the workload may be exceeding the resources available. Whether that is because individual conveyancers are managing too many files or because work is being delegated without sufficient supervision, I cannot say. What I can say is that the service we have experienced has been consistently slow, reactive and frustrating.

What makes this particularly telling is that even Gordon Brown Law's own client has repeatedly apologised to us for choosing them. When your own client is expressing regret over their choice of solicitor, that says a great deal.

My advice to Gordon Brown Law would be to review your capacity, improve communication standards, and ensure enquiries are raised at the appropriate stage of the transaction. Clients and everyone else in the chain deserve timely responses and competent case management.

I'm sure there are good people working within the firm, and I genuinely feel for those trying to provide a good service. However, based on our experience, that is being overshadowed by poor communication, unnecessary delays, and a lack of professionalism.

I would not recommend Gordon Brown Law based on our experience. There are many established conveyancing firms with stronger reputations, and I would encourage anyone buying or selling a property to research their options carefully before instructing them.

p.s. I know their response will be "please remove your comment and email us at x" - no, people need to see the trauma and stress you put people through. Deleting the comment only puts someone else through it.

Gordon Brown Solicitors did a great job with my house purchase. They helped us get to completion quicker than expected and were efficient and professional throughout.

So far I am really disappointed in the lack of communication and updates on the purchase of my property.
The app, which is supposed to be used for ease of back and forth communications is seldom updated and when it is very superficial information is given.
On emailing the conveyancer I have failed to get a timely if any response by email or phone. When I did I was told I was the one in the wrong.
10 weeks into trying to purchase a flat, I am no further forward, have absolutely no clarity that any progress is being made. I feel like this company take your money and sit back and wait for the process to manage itself.
When I have raised a compliant, closed ranks. No apologies, no commitment to make things right.
Terrible customer service, poor conveyancing services. Do not use.

I have recently used Gordon Brown Law to deal with the legalities of the sale of my deceased sister’s property, as executor, and was extremely satisfied with the service received. The conveyancer assigned to us, Sara Thompson, was excellent. She was extremely professional, explained legal terms to us in simple language - which was greatly appreciated given that this was a completely new experience for us. Sara responded to all of my questions promptly, kept me informed at all stages, and carefully walked me through the whole process step by step. The fees were reasonable too. I would highly recommend Gordon Brown Law to anyone requiring conveyancing service.

My experience of dealing with Gordon Law was one of ease & proffesionalism. My Solicitor was Sophie Lawson who was always very charming polite & thorough wether she was contacting me by phone or email. Any questions i had were always dealt with swiftly so i was never left hanging around waiting for a reply for very long time which is always nice. They made the process so easy so i would definately recommend them to anyone so well done for a very pleasant experience at a time that can otherwise be very stressful but not on this occasion, so a big thankyou to Sophie & the team.
