Two separate people dealing with the sale and purchase and there was no joined-up thinking.

The solicitor dealing with our sale eventually got on board and was good at communicating with us by email and phone.

The solicitor dealing with our purchase was inept and extremely poor at communicating. Never once did they answer a call or return any phone calls when we needed clarification.

For Generation X people who don’t always understand “Lawyer speak” we found this unacceptable but combine this with slow and unhelpful responses left us very frustrated

From start to finish Kate has been brilliant.
Solicitors usually get a bad right up when moving house etc but not in this case.
Communication was brilliant and I always got an email on the same to any questions I may have had.
I can’t recommend them enough and will only use them going forward for any further requirements.

I’ve had a really positive experience with Kate and the Gordon Brown team throughout my house purchase. They’ve been professional, helpful and responsive, and I’ve always felt everything was being handled properly.

The app was great at the start of the process, and could be utilised further to provide updates during quieter periods, showing the current stage and any outstanding actions, as this would reassure clients that progress is continuing behind the scenes.

Overall, I’ve been very happy with the service and would happily recommend Kate and the team. We’ve now exchanged and are looking forward to completing!

Echoing other 1-star reviews: this wasn’t my solicitor, but the seller’s. Thanks to a shared client portal, I could see my own conveyancer replying to everything straight away while the conveyancing assistant at Gordon Brown Law sat on correspondence for weeks at a time.

An exercise in frustration from beginning to end. Successfully turned a simple, chain-free first time buy into a 3 month ordeal that could very easily have been completed in half the time. Avoid.

Had the pleasure of Aaliyah complete the sale of my mother’s house. I couldn’t ask for more and would highly recommend. Aaliyah was professional at all times nothing was ever a problem. My estate agent pointed me in the direction of Gordon Brown to help assist with the sale of my first home. I was very lucky and had Kate Bell handling my case. We had a very short timeline to work with but Kate helped to push things along as quickly as she could. She was clear in all of her communication and never made me feel like any question was too silly. She went above my expectations and helped me understand the process as a first time seller. I really appreciate how helpful and kind she was and would use again when I need a solicitor again in the future.

Firstly this is the first time I have sold a property via auction and honestly I am very impressed by the whole procedure and even more impressed with the efficiency and courtesy shown by the team at Gordon Brown Law. We used Gordon Brown Law to sell our property, which I think we received a pretty standard service. However, during the sale of our property a pretty major boundary issue was uncovered, which resulted in us having to use their services to help rectify this with land registry. This is where the 5 star review comes from. Claire Keers was tasked with rectifying this major boundary issue, and what can I say! Easy to contact, friendly and approachable. Kept us well informed and if a query was raised it was dealt with that very same day. We honestly cannot thank her enough, as without her help, support and speedy service. The sale of our property would have undoubtedly fell through.

The staff as well as the service is very professional in every sense and their work ethics is very satisfying.

I had hoped their price was low because they appeared modern and efficient. You need to spend time filling multiple online forms and getting your information together in digital form. You think all this will speed things up! Sadly, progress after that was embarrassingly slow and communication was difficult. If we eventually got a representative at the switchboard to answer the phone they would try to avoid giving you direct contact with their conveyancer. Often we were given incorrect information by the switchboard which led to a lack of trust. The app is hardly ever updated so you cannot use it to track progress. Our conveyancer may have been inexperienced, overworked or under stress but she was not reliable and very slow. The problems were many, but the fact that communication was so poor was not her fault.
The final nail in the coffin is that we have just received the Land Registry update without all the agreed changes being made and Gordon Brown are not receiving our emails to address the issue.
The fact that this company has a good Trustpilot rating makes me wonder about its reliability. Presumably Gordon Brown requests reviews from clients who are likely to give a good one. Be careful when reading Trustpilot reviews and be careful of this company.

Excellent experience buying and selling property through Gordon Brown Law. Sara Thompson was fantastic and responded so quickly to every query that we had. We have moved three times in the last few years but this was by far the best service we have had from conveyancers. Would definitely recommend.

Throughout a house sale and a house purchase, Emily at GBL was the one person that could be relied upon to do her job. Never had to chase, she had already done the chasing for me. It was refreshing and wonderful during a very difficult time in my life.
