Excellent service from beginning to end. I was kept informed about my car all the time it was in the garage. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The repair was done to a high standard and was returned clean with a complimentary air freshner which smells fresh. If I require any work on my car in the future, I will be taking it to DLG Auto Services. I fully recommend them.

Following a non fault accident, Direct Line told me that my car needed to go to one of their approved repairers. What they were far less transparent about was that DLG was not simply an independent garage on their approved network. It was Direct Line's own repair operation (Direct Line Group?). While my vehicle was in their possession, DLG then changed its name to Solus.

That relationship should, in my view, have been made much clearer from the outset.

The repair itself should have been simple and straightforward. The rear bumper needed replacing. Although the original damage was relatively minor, I specifically did not want a bumper full of body filler when I had not caused the accident in the first place. Replacement was agreed on that basis, and that was the clear expectation.

Instead, they attempted to repair the existing bumper, and the standard of workmanship was appalling.

There were small holes visible in the filler, along with raised, streaky lines in the paint and lacquer. It genuinely looked like a rushed amateur repair. An engineer who subsequently inspected the vehicle was equally unimpressed with the quality of the work.

Unfortunately, that was only the beginning.

The vehicle was returned to me with additional damage that had not been present when it went in.

The rear wings had apparently been machine polished or buffed alongside the newly painted bumper. According to the engineer, there was no reason for them to have done this. Worse still, the technique appears to have been incorrect, resulting in paint burn through and a large 7 to 8 inch half moon shaped area of damaged paintwork. There was also a small dent in the middle of the damaged area.

The front wheel arch was also scuffed while the vehicle was in their possession.

The front leather passenger seat was returned with a hole in it.

And, remarkably, the vehicle was also returned without a metallic bumper trim piece. This had been damaged in the original collision and removed during the repair, but simply wasn't replaced.

One thing that proved absolutely crucial was that I had taken extensive date and time stamped photographs and videos of the vehicle immediately before it was collected. Those images clearly showed the condition of the car when it left my possession and gave me evidence I could rely upon when the additional damage was disputed. Without those photographs and videos, this would have been a very different argument, I'm sure.

My advice to anybody handing a vehicle over to an insurer or repair centre is simple: photograph and video EVERYTHING immediately before collection. Every panel, every wheel and the interior. I am extremely glad that I did.

So, to recap, my vehicle went in requiring a relatively straightforward bumper repair and came back with a poor quality repair, damaged paintwork on another part of the car, a scuffed wheel arch, a damaged leather seat and a missing piece of trim.

Following engineer inspection, dispute and a formal complaint, the vehicle is now with Mercedes having approximately £5k of remedial work carried out to put everything right.

The garage repeatedly contacted me in an attempt to book the vehicle back in for full rectification. I repeatedly declined. Having seen the standard of the original repair, and the additional damage caused while the vehicle was in their care, I had absolutely no confidence in their ability to put things right without creating further problems.

The one piece of credit I will give Solus and/or Direct Line is that, after a fair amount of deliberation, they are ultimately picking up the bill for the remedial work being carried out by Mercedes.

That said, this entire experience has been completely unacceptable. An accident repair centre should return your vehicle in a better condition than it arrived, not create thousands of pounds' worth of additional damage.

Based on my experience, I would not allow DLG / Solus Heywood anywhere near my vehicle again.

Picked up the car at appointed time repaired and returned with no fuss and car looks like new, was fully informed at each step of repair.

We got our car back today from DLG Auto Services. They did a fantastic job of repairing our car. Every member of the team was friendly and professional. The service was quick and efficient and completed ahead of the anticipated completion date. The work done looks to be first class. Very impressed.

I was contacted very quickly following my accident & discussion with my insurance company. My car was picked up swiftly, I was contacted with regards to the work that would be carried out & asked for authorisation. I was told they would have my car approx 7-8 days which was adhered to. My car was returned swiftly & in lovely clean condition & all work was carried out to a high standard. Highly satisfied.
