Be very careful if you are over 70 years old. I took out full insurance cover when I booked the car through the EconomyBookings website. Given my age I was told it was a requirement (I have a bone to pick with those guys too). When I picked up the car I was told that because of my age the full coverage I had taken out was not sufficient and I would have to take out their insurance - 160 euros!

The biggest car hire con I’ve experienced in 20 years of travelling

This happened over Christmas 2025 at Malaga Airport.

On arrival, I followed instructions to call the collection number — no one answered. After asking around and eventually seeing the shuttle van, a staff member openly told us: “We don’t answer calls as we’re short staffed.”

After a long wait, we were taken in a van driven aggressively to a dusty, off-airport car hire site. Another 20-minute queue followed.

At the desk, I was told I had only two choices:

Pay €167 with a €1,200 excess (already stated in the DoYouSpain paperwork), or

Pay €120 extra for their own full insurance.

No other options. Completely take it or leave it.

This contradicts what DoYouSpain clearly states — that the vehicle includes CDW and additional excess cover is optional. When questioned, staff said we should book directly with them next time and not use third-party sites, which says it all.

I was effectively forced into paying the €120.

Customer service was rude, arrogant, and dismissive from pickup to return.

Warning: Do not expect what’s written in the paperwork. Expect pressure selling and unpleasant surprises.

My advice: avoid this company and book with a recognised provider such as Hertz or Enterprise.
I wouldn’t touch these guys with a bargepole.

Wir haben für den Spanien Urlaub einen Mietwagen in der Oberklasse gebucht inkl. Navi natürlich. Was wir bekommen haben, nachdem der Shuttle Service uns 30 Min am Flughafen hat warten lassen, obwohl wir extra die Flugnr. mitgeteilt hatten war eine Frechheit. Die Dame hat uns einen völlig verdreckten, versifften VW T-Cross gegeben. Komplett zerkratzt und nicht mal gewaschen von drinnen ganz zu schweigen. Auf der Rücksitzbank lagen noch Nüsse, nett aber nicht frisch, ekelhaft. Das das Navi nicht funktionierte ist eine andere Sache. Die Dame erklärte uns wir müssen es mit Apple Car Play oder Android Auto verbinden, ging auch nicht. Selbst die Mitarbeiter haben es nicht geschafft. Als wir losfuhren war es bereits 01:00 Uhr, schön mit Familie und kleine Tochter. Als nächstes sind wir mit dem Schrotthaufen liegen geblieben, mitten in der Nacht auf der Autobahn. Der Wagen brauchte dringend Service und hat auch geleuchtet. Noch besser das Check24 über die wir gebucht hatten noch Del Paso gar nicht telefonisch erreichbar waren. Die angebene Tel. Nr. stimmen einfach nicht. Irgendwann haben wir jemanden bei Del Paso erreicht und die Dame erklärte und wir müssen vor Ort reklamieren. Das hat der Supervisor bei Abgabe des Wagen gekonnt versucht zu verhindern und meinte wir müssen das online machen. Erst nachdem meine Frau spanisch gesprochen hat, bekamen wir einen Reklamationsbogen. WIRKLICH NICHT ZU EMPFHLEN: Besser gleich zu Sixxxxxt

they cowboys are by far the worst carhire company i have EVER encountered. do not use if you want an enjoyable holiday. i have heard so many awful accounts from other victims. My advice, get another carhire company, and if you cant take the bus or a taxi.
You have been warned.

Disgusting service after my last few trips to Malaga I was refused a car because I booked with carjet.
They insisted I had an international driving license (which I have never had before in all my years traveling for work and pleasure)
I was left stranded without any transport

I will NEVER use this company again
Beware of this rule of theirs

UPDATE
I put a claim into my credit card company and have been fully reimbursed.
Today, 23.1.2026 my bank have since reported to me carjet are refuting my claim and are insisting I have to pay them back!
I fully intend to fight this in court should I have to, it’s not about the money it is the principle now.
You must do the same if you have experienced the same unsatisfactory experience.

Absolutely disgusting company. I hold a full uk driving licence but when collecting my hire car which should have been €98 they trebbled price by insisting I needed an international driving permit and charged me €320 !!!!! Never again !!!! AVOID THESE SCAMMERS !!!

booked a car at Delpaso through economycarrentals.com. Picked up from the collection point at arrivals; so far OK.
Then the theft starts (should have read all the reviews); master card with initials not accepted for the agreed rental; but for a surcharge of more than the agreed rental price they do accept the card. FIRST CLASS ROBBERY. When I made clear not to like this at all they responded quite rude.

Bei der Rückgabe in Malaga wurde uns 850 Euro für einen kleinen, fast unsichtbaren Defekt der Windschutzscheibe einbehalten ; wir hatten alle Schäden an Karosserie usw vorher dokumentiert, die Windschutzscheibe hatten wir nicht fotographiert ; eine Liste mit vorhanden Schäden war nicht vorhanden, der Kunde soll alles dokumentieren und wird dann nach Rückgabe für schwer ersichtliche, vorher bestehende Defekte abkassiert ; Vorsätzlicher Betrug

Arrived at airport and had to shuttle bus to car company Del Paso who refused the hire saying I did not have a Valid EU driving license under the terms set by DoYouSpain.com I had a perfectly valid UK license. Del Paso then tell me I can hire direct from them for a further €180 not the car you agreed though a bashed up seat instead and under a completely different fuel policy STEER WELL CLEAR of these conmen DoYouSpain and Del Paso car hire obviously set up to rip people off exact same scenario with the couple next to us. Del Paso staff were very rude !
Terrible experience Steer Clear

Awful experience – rude and unhelpful staff.
Our flight was delayed due to bad weather, with the pilot having to abort the first landing attempt and circle back for a second one. After finally landing, we waited a long time for the “courtesy bus” to the car hire office, only to be told, very rudely, that our car had been given away because we arrived later than the scheduled time.

We were travelling with a two-year-old child and several pieces of luggage, a car seat, yet the staff member showed no empathy and refused to help, simply saying there was no one else we could speak to. Absolutely unacceptable service. I’m now recovering the money through my credit card company for the booking they failed to honour.

Plus jamais il nous force a prendre une assurance a 135€ je leur dit que je ne n en veux pas il ne veulent rien savoir désagréable des personnes malhonnêteté voiture en mauvais état pas propre bref je ne recommande pas cette arnaque.

Ils essayent de me forcer à prendre leur assurance alors que j'en ai déjà une. Ils prétextent que ma carte de crédit n'a plus que 4 mois de validité pour me refuser la voiture, par contre il n'y aurait pas de problème si je souscris à leur assurance....?
J'ai refusé de me soumettre à leur chantage et n'ai pas eu la voiture. J'ai ensuite déposé une réclamation auprès d'Easy Jet avec qui j'avais fait la réclamation mais ils refusent d'entrer en matière et donc je perds le montant de la location et de l'assurance supplémentaire que j'avais conclue....

Coche entregado muy sucio por dentro y por fuera, con muchos desperfectos, a la hora de entrega el trato con la persona que revisó el coche, pésimo, nefasto, no se como catalogarlo, quería poner daños que ya tenia el coche para cobrar de la fianza.
No me gusta hablar mal de empresas ni de empleados, y entiendo que se puede tener un mal día.
Pero este sistema es dinámica de ellos.
Cuidado con los alquileres de estos coches.

Be very careful if you use this company. You MUST have a flight number, credit card AND an International Drivers Permit. The latter is not needed in Spain but get one anyway as it IS needed by DelPaso. Also take a careful video/photos of the (poor) condition of the car. Sadly many people checking in fell foul of these scams.
