They recovered everything from my faulty disk drive!

My SSD drive very suddenly stopped working - the computer no longer recognised my drive at the hardware level (no longer recognised in the BIOS). So I phoned them up and was told how their service works - basically you send them the faulty disk and they see if the data is salvageable.

If it's recoverable (and they were confident that that's normally the case), they then send a listing of every file they can recover. At this point you pay their invoice and then download your data.

There's nothing to pay if nothing is recoverable, which thankfully wasn't the case for me.

In my case they explained that a firmware problem caused my drive to fail. I suppose this means that they've in fact fixed the firmware on the drive, so it should still be operable. As such I called into their office to pick up the drive, and one of these days I shall try using it again - although not for anything important!

SATA Connector was damaged during a PC transfer to a new case, everywhere I called in the UK told me that I needed to undergo data recovery which would cost hundreds of £'s. After discovering that the PCB can just be replaced, and a little bit of soldering my drive could be effectively repaired. Unfortunately, there are no services in the UK that offer this. I found DataPro's website which had a very detailed description of what needed to be done and also useful information on identifying the correct replacement parts that would be needed to be purchased, on top of that day offered to do the soldering part of the job for free and would ship the replaced PCB at no additional cost. The service was very fast and my replacement PCB arrived back, not even 2 weeks after sending it away. Despite being all the way in Canada, return around time was excellent and the communication was fantastic throughout.

They also saved me hundreds and hundreds of pounds and all of my data.

This is the second time I've had to successfully use DataPro. Last year I sent in a 2T WD drive controller board which got fried by a tech screwing up the power connection. Replacing the board brought the drive right back up.

Last week I had 3 drives go down due to a power transient doing something to the 1T WD disk drives. All local diagnostics indicated that the drives themselves had failed. Sent all three boards in and getting the replacements back in a week. Replacing the boards brought all three drives back up and now the workstation reboots and checks out fine.

While there are some conditions where this technique may not work, especially if the reason for the drive going down was because of hostile malware, it did work for the cases I had.

Data Recovery Lab did recover all data from my faulty Hitachi external hard disk. After just 2 days, I received a file listing of all the recovered data and they asked me whether I liked what I saw. I was delighted to all my data in the list. After making a payment, they sent me all recovered data in a USB hard disk. Excellent job.
