Cumbrian Cottage Holidays Arvostelua 

This will be the first time I’ve given less than five stars to a host. The problems we had could all have been solved by having a welcome booklet explaining the quirky parts of this property and also good instructions on how to operate the three locks you must negotiate to get into the property. However, none of this was done, so we had a very frustrating time getting into the property and figuring out the Wi-Fi system, how the hot water and shower work and any details about the property except what you can’t do and the penalties for violations of the rules. This definitely has clouded our experience.
So here are the details. If our problems are something that wouldn’t bother you, the location of the lodging makes up for a lot. There is easy access to town, walking trails, museums, restaurants, and grocery stores.
So here are the details of our frustrations.It took us approximately 10 minutes to figure out how to open the three locks to access the property because they all had tricks you had to figure out before they would open. In one case a bent key had to be forced before we figured out how to straighten it. Once inside, I wanted to connect to Wi-Fi to take care of some things and to let the owner know know about the bent key. There was nothing anywhere with information on how to connect to Wi-Fi. Since cell phone coverage in the area is spotty, each search took between three and five minutes to load. Getting what I needed to contact the owner was a really long process: get into email, check three or four emails, get the information about the owner, compose text, send a text, wait for a response. Multiply each step by 3 to 5 minutes, multiply that by being at the end of a long day and you get the picture. Also, since there was no booklet explaining things about the quirks of various appliances, every new discovery meant contacting the owner again to ask questions. Again, a very lengthy process, especially when you discover them one at a time and don’t know there’s another one around the corner.
The second major gripe centers around the hot water system.The next morning I got to start my day with an ice cold sponge bath because I couldn’t figure out how to operate the shower or how to get hot water out of the tap for more than 20 seconds. If pulling a nearly invisible cord at one end of the tub in order to get a shower to operate at the other end of the tub is in your skill set then you will be fine with this property. If, when, and for how long hot water will come out of the any of taps is still a mystery.
To end on a positive note, the firm beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is reasonably stocked for cooking utensils, and cookware, (no amenities, like spices, oil, a packet or two of coffee, two or three laundry packets). The heat works well, and the living room is comfortable. Again, the location is fantastic.
Owners, please make it easy for your guests to enjoy your property, and you will have a wonderful place to stay.

We found the cottage clean and comfortable everything we needed was at hand.
The Spa shop and garage were down a little path.
The Butchers was excellent. But also tried a few pubs.
The location was very handy for walking. We also used the local buses.

Lovely cottage in a perfect location. Have stayed in the same cottage numerous times and return frequently as it is spacious and comfortable and enables the family to spend time together in our favourite place.

Had a nice stay with Cumbrian Cottages, we stayed in Wetheral. I have relayed a few minor issues to Cumbrian Cottages themselves and do not deem it necessary to reiterate on here as I received a helpful, considered response. Just to say we didn’t contact the owner regarding these issues as they were not really of relevance and we didn’t feel it necessary. Cumbrian Cottages information was very useful throughout, the emails and contact was friendly and helpful, the cottage was a very pleasant place to stay and we would stay again.

Location was great for us, size of property ideal, very well equipped, very clean.

Beautiful one bedroom cottage, luxury standard. Great location, very pretty with walks nearby. Easy to get to - just off the M6. Easy to book - no hassle. Have no hesitation in recommending.

The Duke of Portland Boathouse was perfect for our first wedding anniversary. The accommodation was as good as was promoted, immaculately clean and so comfortable. The view across the lake was stunning. We were very impressed with the amount of logs available for the wood burning stove. The underfloor heating kept us very cosy too.
Everything was perfect. Cumbria cottage holidays were easy to communicate with too.

Wow 🤩 I’d driven past this boathouse in Ullswater so many times but it was always booked up way in advance. One day I got lucky and actually managed to book it for a birthday treat. It’s such a rare find and the Views are simply stunning. It’s the perfect cosy hideaway for a romantic getaway. Absolutely stunning. Well worth the wait. Only downside was that it was only available for one night 😢

My partner and I have stayed at the beautiful boathouse two times now, for each of our 30th birthdays. We love it there, the lakes incredible scenery goes without saying but the boathouse itself is so cosy and welcoming it feels like a home from home. We will always cherish our memories of visiting and recommend anyone with the opportunity to do so to go.
