You get what you pay for – Choose a higher standard next time
We rented a motorhome from Cruise Canada for 3 weeks. We chose them because they offered the lowest price, but next time we will gladly pay more for better quality and customer service. Here are our experiences:
Vehicle Condition & Safety:
Poor comfort and safety: The passenger seats were very uncomfortable to sit in and functioned poorly as the 5th bed. Safety was also a concern with only lap belts and no seat support above shoulder height.
Broken equipment: The tank gauges were broken, so we had to guess when to fill or empty the tanks. Additionally, several pieces of kitchen equipment that were supposed to be included were missing.
Dirty upon arrival: The camper was very dirty – including the floors, ceilings, and inside the cabinets.
Terrible visibility: The insect screens by the passenger seats could not be rolled back, which significantly blocked the view. With no window in the door and a frosted kitchen window, it was almost impossible for passengers to see the landscape (or bears!) along the way.
Service & Handover:
Long wait times: Despite having a booked time slot, there were extremely long waits at both pickup and drop-off because everyone returns at the same time.
Lack of instruction: We received no information about hot water or heating during pickup. We only discovered how it worked much later, as we mistakenly thought it required a power hookup to function.
Poor communication: We contacted Cruise Canada during our trip regarding the faults and missing items, but there was no action taken. We did receive a small compensation upon return, but we are glad we didn't experience major mechanical issues, as we doubt their ability to provide prompt assistance.
Our Advice: Spend the extra money and book with a different company with a higher standard. That is certainly what we will do next time.
Cruisecanada Bolton
Fahrzeugabholung in Bolton, Ontario.
Cruise Canada RVs (Part 2)
On the drive there the crack continued to grow. When we arrived they were unable to help us claiming that they do not have a technician on call who can fix or replace the windshield and insisting that it should be fine if we continue driving with this crack. We insisted and they told us to call travellers assistance again so that they will be able to find us a shop that can replace it. We spent another two hours waiting for them to get back to us, and during that time we called them again and they said "start heading toward where you want to go, we'll call you when we find something along your route" but after half an hour of driving the crack grew so much that it crossed the half of the windshield and we stopped and would not go further without a replacement. We called them again and gave them our exact location and an hour later they gave us the name of a nearby shop, where we waited for more than two hours until they were done. All in all it took more than 7 hours, wasting more than half a day of travel. The following day we were driving and a car in the lane next to us sped past us, causing a rock to fly into our windshield and chipping it again. We called again to report and they told us what they had told us last time "no need to get it sealed, it should be fine, we guarantee it" we insisted this time and said we did not want, nor are able to afford, to lose another whole day on a crack, and they said "ma'am, I don't mean to be rude, but do you know where you are? You are on the Alaska Highway-" but I cut them off and said "no, I'm in Saskatchewan (which none of them seemed able to pronounce correctly) I haven't been on the Alaska Highway for more than a week, and you would know that if you would have looked at my file, we talked to you guys yesterday from Alberta" and he did not know how to respond to that. We later got a call back from them apologizing and telling us we should get some superglue and put it on the chip and that should take care of it.
I did not give them one star because at the end of the day, the RV served its purpose most of the time and we were able to make our trip and stick to our route despite the issues, but I would not credit that to travellers assistance but to our determination and time limitations. They also compensated us when we returned the RV, but that was their branch and not travellers assistance.
If you are planning on a longer trip, more than 2-3 weeks, I would not recommend Cruise Canada, and I would advise the company to conduct basic training for their travellers assistance on the Canadian map so that they would be able to help the customers who are renting from the Canadian fleet. It makes no sense that a company that prides itself on having several branches across North America would have a travellers assistance who cannot at the very least pronounce the names of the Canadian provinces, nor locate the Trans Canada Highway (literally the highway that crosses all of Canada).
Average experience overall
Sadly we have to concur with many of the comments on this feed. We had 16 nights in the 25' Standard C25 and overall, it worked well and did everything we needed it to do. We only had two nights without hook-up which is a challenge without a generator/solar. But these guys are so far behind the competition it's alarming.
The initial handover was cursory at best from unsmiling and indifferent staff (the hand-back wasn't much better). I know these people do this many, many times... but it's their job to make us feel welcome and they simply failed. Upon leaving, we felt totally underwhelmed by the experience.
We are asked to return the van clean, but there are no cleaning materials. Surely a simple kit could be supplied with a deposit and smaller refund upon return. A set of levels are essential - a basic requirement, but nothing is provided. This is ridiculous. Outdoor chairs have to be hired, which again is just daft. We bought some cheap from a returning German family which in turn we gave free to some other people - otherwise you just chuck them away. Wrong on many levels.
Other rental companies provided an external canopy - essential on very hot days with no cover. And as for the interior. DRAB! Looks like something from the 90s... again, way behind the competition! Regarding rattles in transit - you have to "learn" these vehicles and pack accordingly - lots of padding out and putting anything that rattled on the bed!
These niggles however didn't spoil our trip - we wouldn't let them, but it's questionable if we'd use Cruise Canada another time.
AVOID AT ALL COST
We booked this trip via a travel agent, due to this we thought the rental company would be on par with the money paid. Very mistaken. So bad it has a 1 star on the first night.
We had the C25 to fit 3 people and there is more than enough space. The desk staff were nice enough, then it came to the “tour” it wasn’t even 5 minutes only showing where the waste disposal, water tank, and propane tank. Then a quick show of the inside with the guy attempting to hold all the draws that are broken closed. No help on driving laws, or anything. We were asked if we had watched the orientation video (which helped very little). When double checking how the generator works (which was advertised in the video) we were bluntly told there wasn’t one meaning the AC unit and microwave didn’t work unless we were plugged into mains power (not all campsites have) leading to a very hot and sticky evening.
On the road the noise was dreadful, going on the smooth highway I recorded just over 110dB (around the same level as the London Underground). The glass on the microwave and hob felt like it was going to shatter with the noise and vibrations coming from it.
We also paid for the kitchen set (pans, cutlery etc..), camping chair, and insurance, thank the lord for that as many things broke that would most likely be considered “our fault”. The utensils were thrown into a draw and left to bounce around with no tray to hold them, meaning the knives were getting blunter and blunter with every turn and bump. I pulled out one of the camping chairs expecting it to have slight ware and tear from previous owners, but found 2 holes burnt through from cigarettes and am scared to look at the other ones. Like previously stated thank the lord we opted in for the insurance as we would be skint with the amount that has broken, there is one light that should be a door light but stays on with all doors closed and ignition running with no switch to turn it off. This light is next to the driver and is rather blinding in daylight making it impossible to see the road at night never mind driving. Fortunately this turned off and haven’t turned on since (guessing it is broken). The lock for the big storage door underneath is dodgy with the key not working when it is inserted all the way, talking about the key we had to get a new one cut due to the old one having a major crack in it and on the verge of snapping, bet this won’t be reimbursed.
Now the cleaning… god help please. It was like they didn’t do anything at all. The bedding and towels that were provided were disgusting there was mould on 2 out of the 3 pillow cases, dirt and grime all over the sheets given, dirt and hair all over the towels. Did they just take it from the last person and pass it on? There were brown stains on the wall by the over-cab bed and the floor had little bits all over the place. Now you know my comment earlier about the knives and so on getting blunt, I didn’t even need to worry about using them as they had fingerprints and oil all over with the draw they were stored in smelling rotten.
There is much more to say and I am sure much more to come but at this point where everything is getting too tiring to deal with.
Very poor quality motorhome
We rented a C25 RV for 2 weeks in June from the Vancouver depot. We were disappointed at the quality of the vehicle we rented. It was tired, dingy and old - a cupboard front over the table was broken and fell apart when we opened it meaning is was unusable. There was trim falling off by the French bed. The bed linen pack was threadbare and inadequate - we were cold. The towels were also threadbare and no hand towels were supplied. There was no oven and no Bbq tools so no option but to fry everything. There was a microwave and air con but they only work when on EHU which wasn’t always an option. There was no awning so if it was raining we had no alternative but to sit inside. The kitchen pack had no small plastic glasses only pint ones, unsuitable for breakfast juice or the odd glass of wine. I bought 3 plastic wine glasses which I was told would be thrown away as we shouldn’t drink in the van and there shouldn’t even have been a corkscrew!!!!. When I tried to say to the agent taking the van back in that I thought that was incorrect he put his hands over his ears and said ‘la la la!’ Rude to say the least! Would definitely not recommend to anyone
Cruise Canada Vancouver
Rented a C 25 (Ford F-350) RV in…
Rented a C 25 (Ford F-350) RV in Calgary, very old, about 15 years, not quite there but close to "Rent a Wreck". Did not even have a power outlet, by luck I brought a plug to put in the cigaret lighter. The battery was supposed to be able to supply heat for 2 hours, but after 15 min. the battery was dead. The provisioning kit and the personal kit you had to pay extra for was of very, very lousy quality. The RV was weared and dingy
AVOID this company at all costs
On August 8th 2024, we rented an RV in Calgary.
Upon picking it up, we noticed that its maintenance and cleanliness were not up to standard. Therefore, we asked if they had any other RV available for a swap, but we were told that everything was booked.
On August 10th, the second day of the rental, we ran out of water due to a problem with the exterior city connection valve. Whether we used the city water connection or the water tank with the pump, in both cases, the water shot out of the vehicle and it was also leaking internally under the bed where there were electrical connections, posing a risk to us. Therefore, we couldn't use anything related to water inside the vehicle (shower, bathroom, sink, etc.). We called Cruise Canada, sent emails to customer service and the assistance service, but since it was the weekend they couldn't offer us a solution... we were without water for a total of 8 out of the 13 days we had rented the RV.
After presenting our case to customer service, we were offered a ridiculous compensation for the nightmare we suffered during our vacation and the price we paid for renting an old and outdated motorhome.
This is not the experience we planned to have on our summer vacation, and it has completely ruined the trip we had been planning for a long time.
Please AVOID this company at all costs. Their fleet is excessively old and poorly maintained, the roadside assistance service is non-existent, and they don’t care about their customers. The best thing you can do is book with Fraserway or Canadream as they have much newer and higher-quality fleets.
Terrible experience.
Terrible experience.
Woke up on our first morning and the main bed is soaked through, kids are wet. Water is running down the inside back wall, puddles of water in the cupboard.
Called up the phone line and the most rude and ill mannered agent told us they certainly would not change the RV, we ‘were not the only people on rent’ and had to spend our holiday driving around to find somewhere to get it fixed.
He then hung up on us, we still have no information on where we will get this fixed.
Who wants to spend their holiday getting an RV fixed?! Avoid.
BLK Tank zeigt immer 2/3 voll an!
Gas und Benzintank waren nicht voll!
Wasserschlauch konnte schon am 1. Abend nicht mehr diskonnektiert werden!
Mikrowelle defekt!
Sehr einfach eingerichtet.
I would not recommend Cruise Canada RV Rental
Check in process and collection of RV inflexible, even though they knew we had a ferry to catch. Linen Package threadbare and inadequate for travellers from overseas. Other customers of Cruise Canada we met had to purchase additional bedding to keep warm. The vehicle interior was tired & worn with only the basic cutlery and crockery provided including only plastic beakers. No BBQ utensils, even though every campground has a fire pit! The hose for the city water supply leaked badly. The vehicle wheel alignment was out resulting in the RV pulling severely to the right. In comparison to other RV rental companies Cruise Canada must come a long way down the list. Travellers that we encountered using competitor companies were much better catered for in newer vehicles. Considering they specialise in hiring out to overseas visitors, they do not cater for the less well equipped international traveller who cannot be expected to take everything with them that Cruise Canada do not provide. I would therefore not recommend.
OK vehicle but woeful customer care
Picked up an RV at Calgary. Not used one before so had taken to watching their helpful video several times beforehand. The lady who served us was very brisk, I know we all want to get on with our holiday, but 5 minute tour is not adequate. For example we later discovered that the C25 fridge/freezer can work off hook up electrics, not just propane. (Not all models are the same). Well worth knowing. We were asked to collect our own bedding from their warehouse next to the office. Clearly customer care and service is not taught here! The RV worked well (averaged 4.8kms/litre of unleaded regular), but on potholed roads does make quite a lot of noise. The one major downside to this company is their "travellers assistance". We had a minor problem which took 10 days to sort out. The assistance is from Cruise America who have their office somewhere in the US and have absolutely no clue on Canadian geography. The service was absolutely woeful. We ended up sorting out the issue ourselves by going to a service place. They really couldn't care less. So I would never use them again. Sorry. Very poor customer care.
Steer Clear Of Cruise Canada!
What was supposed to be a dream vacation discovering the beauty of Canada was most certainly not the case when it comes to the rental of our RV.
The customer service at the Vancouver office is none existent. We were rushed through the RV by a guy who gave us very limited information before literally sprinting away.
There were no niceties involved, no words of advice and no support in terms of this being our first time renting such a vehicle.
The RV (C25) was OLD, and I mean very OLD. At best it can be described as driving a tin can supported by a suspension made of jelly and the decibel levels of a bag of nuts and bolts inside a tumble dryer. It was the worst with doors flying open at regular intervals, no hot water as the heater only worked sporadically and the most uncomfortable bed covered in a sweaty plastic cover/
The RV was most certainly NOT CLEAN when we collected it and we had to spend time and money buying cleaning materials before we could even consider using any of it. None of the crockery, cutlery or pans were clean and despite the kit costing £150 dollars to rent it was the cheapest set of everything that they could possibly provide.
I had the foresight to take a fitted sheet and some pillowcases with me and then went to Walmart and spend $40 on a quilt rather than spend another $150 on the personal kit (and I am so glad I did as others commented on the rubbish sleeping bags they had been provided with!).
It really is such a poor show from Cruise Canada. We had spent a lot of money renting this van and I can honestly say it was the biggest disappointment and others we encountered who has also rented from Cruise Canada felt the same way.
I highly suspect that no one from this company ever takes one of these on the actual road. They are no doubt legal in respect of roadworthyness but there is no way that anyone who has ever driven one of these for more than a couple of miles would ever let them go out on the road again.
The noise levels when travelling were so bad I ended up using our noise cancelling headphones as I could not cope with the noise from the engine and the interior of the van.
Our campsites had been booked and we had paid for the van rental so we had no alternative but to use it - otherwise I would have returned it and stayed in motels instead.
Honestly, if you are considering using Cruise Canada please look at alternatives before hand and stay well away.
Our trip was 2500kms round BC and Alberta, it was stunning and it was most definitely the most beautiful place we have ever been but the use of this RV took away a valuable part of our enjoyment and I will remain forever resentful.
Not the best
Booked Cruise Canada through our travel agent - as we have no company to compare with let’s be kind and offer 3 stars.
The Depot outside Vancouver is on an industrial estate - limited seating inside for the large number of people waiting; no tea / coffee refreshments other than water available.
VERY quick introduction to the RV - larger than we anticipated or wanted ( smaller not available), NO driving information offered just a quick tour of the basics in terms of water/ waste etc ‘have you watched the introductory video’ “yes” ‘then here’s the keys’.
Provisioning kit is sparse and poor - 1 thin pillow case and sheet per person, one double duvet( actually the best bit about the kit) , 3 thin pillows ( between 2 people) 2 large, 2 small thin towels per person ( for a fortnight’s trip!) one toilet roll. VERY limited kitchen equipment - one kettle, one huge pan, one medium pan, one tiny frying pan.
NO cleaning materials, spray or dishwashing liquid but we were urged to ‘return the van clean or you will be charged excess’.
The van was NOT thoroughly cleaned when we collected it - discovered when we settled for the night after driving away that the stove top and surface were greasy, the cutlery looked less than thoroughly clean and there were finger marks in many areas.
Microwave was high up above the stove top - hazardous when manoeuvring hot food.
Crockery cupboard also high up and if you’re less than 5ft 5 you’re going to struggle to reach!
The van we had was clearly old - bathroom door swing open when travelling and the drawers also.
It’s a good job we are seasoned campers who came prepared with duct tape / string / clips and various other handy bit n bobs.
Unfortunately baggage allowance didn’t enable us to bring bedding / towels and kitchen kit otherwise we would have done.
Driving along the RV was quite loud as was the heating furnace, water pump and toilet flush.
Not the most comfortable or refined experience, however, we made the best of it and, having booked our campgrounds ahead of our trip we were able to explore BC & Alberta as we had planned.
We didn’t have to contact customer service so cannot comment on that side of the business, only to say that the staff we spoke to WERE very friendly but clearly EXTREMELY busy and couldn’t wait to get vans out / back ASAP ( this wasn’t high season!) No one checked whether the van was clean ( it was MUCH cleaner) on return, just checked the fuel and propane.
Terrific customer service, RV experts
Our experience with Cruise Canada Vancouver was excellent from start to finish. We arrived at the depot several hours earlier than planned and Suresh met with us, he offered us an early check in and upgrade to a brand new larger RV. We were very excited about this offer and happily accepted. We began our seventeen day trip and covered 4200 Km without incident. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip in the RV and would highly recommend Cruise Canada to anyone thinking of embarking on a RV adventure. Thank you to the team at Delta CC who were very professional from start to finish. Cheers, Andrew & Lesley
Cruise Canada Were Fantastic
We rented a Motorhome/RV for two weeks from Cruise Canada collecting in Vancouver. I have to say from start to finish they were fantastic.
We were met by the manager Suresh who had everything we pre-booked organised. He gave us a warm welcome and was very professional....I can't thank him enough.
His staff were also excellent and gave us a thorough handover of the RV. The RV itself was great and had everything we could have asked for....impeccably presented and spotlessly clean. It was very modern and both well equipped and easy to drive.
We returned the RV to the Cruise Canada Calgary depot who were also excellent and very efficient.
I would thoroughly recommend Cruise Canada to anyone thinking of doing a Motorhome/RV trip. We toured Vancouver Island and the Rockies before returning to Calgary. The trip was one of the best I have ever done.
So thank you Cruise Canada and particularly Suresh for outstanding customer service
