When I bought my car from here, I dealt with Tony. He was friendly, polite and had a relaxed approach. I didn't feel pressured into a decision and wanted to buy it after I'd taken it for a test drive.

My luck being my luck, the car broke down 3 weeks in. As it was still under their 30-day warranty, it had to be collected from my address to be repaired back in Chepstow.

The positive experience I had with this - the car was collected the same day I called (later in the evening) and was fixed the following day.

The negative I took from it was the guy I spoke to originally wanted me to get the car to them, approximately 35 miles away, but with some reluctance did arrange collection once I'd pointed out it wasn't possible to drive the car to them.

I was also asked to use my AA breakdown cover (you can activate free 12 months cover when you purchase a car from this garage) to get the car there, but it clearly states the cover is for 1/4 mile away from your home and will only take you and your car to the nearest garage. Once I'd established this also wasn't possible, then collection was arranged. It felt like if I hadn't said anything, it would have been left at "ok, get the car to us" and I would have been stuck with a broken-down car

I would also point out that I had to arrange transport to go and collect the car once it was fixed, I would have appreciated if it was delivered back to me, but maybe that extra mile is too much to ask.

All in all, the actual purchasing experience was a pleasant experience. The customer service when dealing with a problem within the warranty period, could be better. However, with that being said, they did what was expected and got the issue sorted.

An honest 3 star rating from my experience.

We recently bought a lovely little Vauxhall Adam with just 30,000 miles on the clock from Chepstow Trade Centre. It was the wife’s 2nd Adam and we were looking to part exchange her white 2015 ‘Rocks’ with 103,000 miles on the clock for something with a lot less miles.

We had spent a few days travelling about and looking at various examples, in a multitude of colours. She was taken with both the blue and red versions and wanted to have something other than white again, her preference was red.

Prices of 2nd hand cars have gone up significantly since our last purchase and we were struggling to find anything with low mileage at a sensible price. Many dealers asking in excess of £9k for 2018 models with 30,000 miles on the clock.

We stumbled across CTC and made arrangements to go and have a look at the red 2016 example they had. It was a Sunday and they were open from 10am – 3pm.

The car was on their forecourt and, unlike many of the examples we had seen previously, it started with the turn of the key, the battery wasn’t flat! We were able to have a good look around it in sunlight and took it for a test drive. It drove perfectly.

We were offered a reasonable part-exchange deal on ours, despite the MOT being due for renewal in only a couple of days and their car had already been serviced and had a new MOT on it, so we were able to buy it and drive it away there and then, which was a real bonus.

And that is exactly what we did. We completed the paperwork in under 30 minutes and we were on our way home in the wife’s new car and she was absolutely delighted. We stopped in town to get a bite to eat and then headed back home via the windy back roads through Tintern, and then the unimaginable happened…

The car coughed, spluttered and then multiple warning lights came on the dash! The engine management light, the ‘Service ESP’ light and the traction control light all glared ominously. The engine went into limp home mode and our hearts sank.

We were about 300 yards away from where I had broken down in my truck only the week before and knew, all too well, that there was no mobile signal for at least another 5 miles and it was after 3pm, so CTC had now closed for the rest of the day. We had no choice, we limped the car home.

Once home I looked up the contact details for CTC and dropped them a message via their website, thinking I’d get a response at some point on Monday.

Much to my surprise a response was forthcoming within the hour!

One of the directors, Tim, had responded and apologised profusely for the inconvenience.

I had detailed what had happened and explained that we had seen this before on our previous Adam, on that occasion it turned out to be a coil pack failure. Tim concurred that he thought it would, most likely, be the same. And so we made arrangements to drop the car off at our local garage, just under a mile away, and that they would diagnose the problem, which they duly did and then quoted us full retail price for the repair, which was around double what the trade cost would have been!

The fault was a failed spark plug, which had indeed caused the coil pack to subsequently fail.

There was no quibble from CTC, Tim simply asked for a copy of their invoice and transferred the funds directly to my account. He went out of his way to make the process as simple as possible for us and with the minimal of inconvenience.

It’s fair to say that the measure of an organisation, and indeed any individual for that matter, is the manner in which they deal with their problems. As far as I’m concerned CTC were admirable in the way in which they went above and beyond in resolving the issue that we had with the car. An issue that they could not have foreseen or predicted and could have happened at any time. It was just unfortunate that it occurred as we were driving home. They could have easily asked me to return the car to them for diagnosis and repair, but didn’t want to cause us any further inconvenience, instead, electing to pay double what it would have otherwise cost them.

We have now driven the new car several times and my wife is absolutely delighted with it, she loves it. It is everything she had hoped for and wanted.

I would not hesitate in recommending Chepstow Trade Centre or Tim, Mark and their team. The manner in which we were treated throughout was extremely professional and courteous. Their apologies were genuine and their desire to ensure everything was resolved to our satisfaction was more than evident. So much so that we would certainly buy from them again.

I went to buy a car I had seen advertised online, and had already discussed part exchanging my old car. They were polite and helpful and had the car I was viewing ready and available. They did not hassle us and allowed us to take our time. They were open about value for part exchange vs private selling giving pros and cons for both. We were allowed to test drive the vehicle in privacy while they stayed and helped other customers. Overall a very good experience and I came home very happy with a new car!

Fantastic selection of vehicles to choose from. The staff are very helpful and not at all pushy. This is the second vehicle we have bought here. We are absolutely delighted with our car and would not hesitate to recommend Chepstow Trade Centre.

Bought a Ford focus had a few advisories asked Tony to do them and they were done meet rob when picked car up and was really brilliant talked us through everything could not ask for better service really best thing as a family could ask for and even touched up a scratch that we did not ask them to do as they said they would take money off great company and even better service thank you very much

We were like a family of misfits - all the kids come to view, gang of 7 of us in total, but this didn’t phase them. They were patient with all parties all firing different requests and questions. Smooth collection, couldn’t fault them in any single way.

Car is ticked all the boxes we were looking for within decent budget, in fact only one we found to tick all boxes within hour drive of ourselves even further a field didn’t have much we wanted.

We had an issue with the car we bought from chepstow trade centre but in all fairness Tim (owner) was true to his word & did fix the car. It was a gearbox issue on an auto & he paid to have it replaced so very happy in the end although we had to wait a while for the fix it was worth it as it's running perfectly now so thanks Tim. 😊

I can definitely recommend CTC as a reputable company in the car trade. I was treated with curtesy during negotiations and would certainly use them again for any future car purchase.

Decided to venture down to the Trade Centre to take a look at the VW Golf GT TSI (silver) that they still have for sale. The listing stated that the oil leak had been fixed and that it was a good quality reliable car. How wrong I was. Now, I understand the world of used cars is a minefield, but to travel around 90 mins only to be greeted by a car that clearly hadn't had any of the stated maintenance/repairs taken place is the reason for my review, just so others know what they might be greeted with.

Bodywork was ok, fair few scrapes and some dents, front bumper had clearly taken some previous damage. Was told they don't repair these issues as they then have to add them on to the price of the car. The test drive was where the problems showed their head. A matter of 10 mins into the drive and the engine light comes on, followed by the ECP light, a fair amount of smoke from the exhaust and then it started to mis-fire. Was actually that slow accelerating that I thought we wouldn't get back to the garage. All this for £6500.... I think not.

Don't get me wrong, the guy who greeted me was nice enough and talkative, nothing wrong there. We did however, kind of feel that the mechanic (not sure if he was one) who was on site with him kind of looked at us as if the faults were the result of us driving it/or we were making it up? Thankfully this was not the case as he confirmed it was a mis-fire after taking it out himself.

All in all, given the experience I had personally, I would really do your homework on a car from CTC if you were to purchase. My review is based solely on the quality of the car after being told all issues were fixed and that it was so-say the:
"perfect first car for someone good strong safe German car." - description from the CTC Official website. It wasn't good at all, it was far from it. I was asked if I would consider driving it again if the problems were all fixed? Now... that may be a nice gesture but the word "if" shouldn't come in to it. Nobody in their right mind would buy what I drove as it wasn't roadworthy.
