Misleading payment process that could easily result in customers paying twice
I booked an Annual Water Softener Service on 19 October and was required to pay €180 upfront before an appointment could even be arranged. Payment was mandatory to secure the booking.
I was then told I would be contacted within 48 hours to arrange a service visit. The engineer attended on 21 October and completed the service without issue.
What happened next was unacceptable. Shortly after the visit, I received a "Notification Regarding Balance Due" for the exact same amount (€180), complete with a payment link and bank details, giving every impression that payment was outstanding.
To make matters worse, during the call to arrange the service appointment, the agent mentioned payment. I specifically reminded the agent that the service had already been paid for in full because otherwise I would not have been able to make the booking in the first place. Despite this, I still received an invoice demanding payment after the service had been completed.
This creates a real risk of customers paying twice for the same service. An elderly customer, someone distracted, or someone simply trusting the email could easily assume payment was required and pay again.
The engineer and the service itself were perfectly fine. My complaint is entirely about the billing and communication process, which appears poorly designed and highly misleading. If payment has already been received, customers should be sent a receipt or a confirmation showing a zero balance, not what looks like a demand for payment.
Culligan urgently needs to review this process to prevent customers from being confused or inadvertently making duplicate payments. The service visit was satisfactory, but the payment and invoicing experience was so poor that it overshadows the entire customer journey.

The company are great to deal with but one of the most expensive on the market
The company are great to deal with! I’ve dealt with them for 7 years but what I will say is the cost has gone through the roof! A service initially cost €120, then €150 and now a whopping increase of €30 in one year!

You never showed up we were waiting all day,no text no call then when I rang Iwas in the phone for an hour and ten minutes when I finally got someone he took my details and put me on hold again 15 minutes later the phone was put down on me so I rang again and was told you had no idea why he didn’t turn up If this is the way you are taking over you won’t have customers for long because only I already paid I would have cancelled and changed provider

Disappointed with €180 annual service – 20-minute visit with minimal checks
I recently had an annual water softener service from Culligan for €180. While the technician was pleasant and fixed a loose plug, the entire visit took just 20 minutes, which raises serious questions about the value provided.
Apart from replacing the G1 carbon filter, no proper diagnostic or maintenance checks were carried out. Notes sent twice to customer support about our softener not working were not passed to the technician. No water hardness test was performed because he had run out of test strips, and the regeneration cycle was manually skipped through rather than verified.
At €180 per year, I expected a thorough service with proper water testing and full system diagnostics, rather than a quick 20-minute filter change. Very hard to justify paying this annually.

One of the worst companies you could…
One of the worst companies you could ever deal with.
They acquire local businesses and then simply raise prices while cutting technicians' pay. Even their own technicians blame management and recommend that customers switch to other companies.
They even deliver salt on huge, heavy-duty pallets and leave them behind without collecting them. As a result, I have to pay for a skip service, which costs three times as much as the salt itself. And their excuse? Apparently, this is covered in their four-page agreement - the kind of small print nobody actually reads.
Avoid this company at all costs. Their services are overpriced, and the quality is below average. Look for local specialists instead. Save your money, your time, and your nerves.

Very poor customer service

Curb side salt delivery for an OAP?
Not notified of delivery . Curb side delivery only? I never heard of this, a new way of to save money at customer expense. I am left with a large pallet with no way to dispose of it, in my front garden! I paid €20 for delivery, an absolutely disrespectful, disgraceful service by Culligan’s.

Communicating with customer
Engineer to arrive between 1 and 4pm - recd call at 3.20 cancelling - had to phone following day to rearrange and agreed Tuesday 20/10 - got call at 08.55 to rearrange for Wednesday 21/10- informed Culligan I had agreed call for today - engineer arrived and completed service this morning- must consider in future that not all customers can waste a day waiting in to no avail.
